  1. Hi all! I have a 2001 IS200SE with LPG and i've covered nearly 245000 miles. Just recently I've been getting a grinding noise on over-run thats definately coming from the auto box. The noise is most noticable in the passenger footwell. I have ruled out other possibilities and have plumped for a used box off a 2003 IS which I'm assure had covered just 36000 miles prior to it's demise. My questions are 1. Is the gearbox a self contained unit, ie if i unbolt it will transmssion fluid spill everywhere or will it come off the engine without fluid loss? 2. Has anyone got a gearbox removal procedure. I know that i'll need to unplug the electronics etc but 3 When the replacemet box goes on, is there a set procedure for refilling the box etc? If anyone can assist, I promise to photograph the procedure and post it here. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
  2. Don't really want to be a grandad yet but my 2000 X reg has done 205557 miles. Haven't even serviced it for the last 80,000 and it still runs beuatifully.
  3. Mine's a 2001 with 210,000. Had a cam belt last week. Whilst in there I had that call to say there were a few other things that needed my attention. Along list worth £6100. Still drives very smoothly.
  4. Thanks everyone for the comments. Its a X reg and just come up to 210,000 miles. Still starts first time and never guves any trouble. The spark plugs had erroded and were running with an 8mm gap. Impressive !!!!
  5. Hi all, I really appreciate you taking the time to read this. When changing the plugs, I decided it might be a good idea to remove the 4 bolts which retain the top cam belt cover. Horror!!!! The inside of the cover is plastered with a Black Fibrous FLUFF and the cam belt is just 12mm wide. Am I correct to assume that it should be much wider than this. Am I a very lucky person indeed for checking this today. Here's a lovely photo! Note the nice wide sprocket and frighteningly narrow belt by comparison. Hope to hear from you all soon Why can't I upload my photo? Surely I don't need to get it hosted.
  6. I had my 2000 IS 200 converted approximately 18 months ago. I had a multipoint system installed with an ECU link. The car had covered 58000 miles when converted. Flashlube was not recommended by the installer and so was not fitted. Within 20,000 miles the engine began to missfire. Whent into my local dealership who said that the valve seats had burnt on 3 valves. Luckily there was enough adjustment on the shims to bring them back into tolerance. The LPG installer said that the reason that only 3 valves had burnt, not all of them was because often the car leaves the factory with the valves within tolerance but not equally adjusted. Once the valve seat begins to burn it deteriorates rapidly. I now have flaslube fitted and the car has now covered 166,000 miles with no further problems. Hope this helps! :) :)
