  1. Water down this way is hard as nails (what with living on chalk at the foot of the South Downs)! My car was done with that Superguard stuff by the dealer, and I use Auto Glym car shampoo, but still the water marks show up if I just let it dry - and that's on a silver car! No choice but to shammy it off :o

  2. Not sure for the best place to post this, but anyway...

Monday May 5th sees the annual motorcycle run for charity from Locks Bottom to Hastings along the A21. So, if you're in or around the area, you might encounter upwards of 16,000 motorcyclists, and your journey times may take a bit longer! :o

If (as the forecast suggests) it's heaving with rain on the Monday, then that'll be 15,999 motorcyclists - cos me and the Fazer will be at home in the dry!

  3. Unfortunately the corroding alloys and issue with the stereo are both known issues, but Lexus are usually pretty hot on replacing these items under warranty :)

Sorry to hear about your control box problem tho. In all the time I've been frequenting the LOC, this is the first time I have heard of this problem. I know it's probably of little consolation, especially when you're faced with a £780+ bill, but I guess it's just the nature of cars (and life!) that something like this could happen to anyone. If it's any comfort, Lexus is still tops in the JD Power stakes, so arguably the chances of faults developing on other manufacturers cars is greater.

If you opt for a dealer repair (which obviously comes with it's own guarantee) then definately worth checking out Gold membership as Supra' suggests. Also might be worth checking to see if there's any other Lexus dealers within a reasonable distance, who might do it cheaper or offer a greater Gold discount.

  4. I can't imagine that Lexus would re-upholster the centre of the seat for you, so options would be to go to a specialist automobile upholstering company and get them to do it. Can't see that this would affect your warranty, except that if they have to remove the seats to re-upholster them, then any defect subsequently arising as a result of the seats being inciorrectly re-fitted would be an issue.

Alternatively, you could try buying the IS300 seats from Lexus and retro fitting them.... but I imagine that's gonna be a scary amount of money! :o

  5. Ek' is right, you have to specify the sat nav system when you order the car.

In theory, it may be possible for your Lexus dealer to be able to obtain sat nav items, as presumably they would need to be able to do this if they were replacing parts of someone's faulty sat nav system under warranty. However.... you would need to find a Lexus dealer who was both willing and able to do this, and I imagine most Lex dealers wouldn't go there. Secondly, I imagine that even if you did manage to get hold of all the parts, installing them would involve major surgery on your IS300 :crying:

Sorry it's not better news - sounds like your best option is to start working on your dad to convince him to add the sat nav option when he orders the car! :)

  6. Bizarre... wonder why Lexus is refusing to allow people to upgrade to standard 17" wheels (for a cost presumably) on the 200 Sportcross? Especially when the Lexus UK website is so misleading! It's not like the wheel arches have to be modified. Honestly, they'll let you upgrade from plastic scuff-plates to illuminated scuff-plates, but not to 17" alloys. What's the problem?

  7. The Lexus UK website is enough to confuse anyone about the IS200 Sportcross alloys!! :duh:

The little "Discover the Lexus IS in 3D" animation for the IS200 Sportcross actually shows a Granite Sky IS300 Sportcross which is fitted with the 17" alloys. As for the IS200 Sportcross Picture Gallery, well it shows four pictures of IS200/300 saloons that you can enlarge, and one tiny picture of an IS200 Sportcross that you can't enlarge. Anyone would think Lexus didn't want to show off their baby estate

  8. I remember my first car (a 1972 Triumph SPitfire Mk IV) came with a wiring diagram... not so these days, besides - I probably wouldn't understand it!

I'd go through the fuses one by one, starting with the small 'blade' type ones, and see if one is burnt out (should be fairly obvious to spot). These functions may well be covered by one fuse, but some of the descriptions on the inside of the fuse box lid are cryptic to say the least!

Even if you do find (& fix) a duff fuse, it's worth doing as Zee' suggests and getting the dealer to have a butchers, just in case there's an underlying fault causing it.

  9. Well parking across two bays or diagonally is fair game I feel, particularly if the car park is quiet and there are plenty of other spaces available -_-

However, I regularly see BMW and Mercedes drivers using the DISABLED bays at the local MARKS & SP£NC£R, because they're larger spaces and nearer the entrance to the store... If I was the store manager, I'd CLAMP them! But it seems like the store does nothing - they'd rather toady up to their customers! :megaangry:
