  1. sorry to sound condescending here but could it be that they just have punctures?

would that cause the alloys to be hot to touch?

jack up car and check for brakes binding if very hot .

There is normally some heat transfer to the wheels but not much.

If no punctures have wheels checked for corrosion, preventing tyre from sealing.

    Thanks i will try that

  2. Every month or so i go out and find one of my front tyres flat, I have 18inch alloys and last month the passenger side alloy was roasting hot one day, turned out to be stuck caliper, £189 pounds later it was fixed.

last night leaving work i looked to find drivers side wheel deflated, quick pump up and was fine until this morning I have notice both alloys are warm to the touch, when they shouldnt be.

what is going on with my is200? i really couldnt be doing with new caliper again.

  3. Hi guys I have just taken ownership of an is200 SE 2001. Everything was fine until tonight as i went to turn on the car.

When I insert the key in the ignition (the main lights came on)

When I turn the key to start (the main lights go off)

The full beams only work when in 'flash' mode (when pulling the lever back)

It wont work when puched forward - the roper position.

So now i can only drive at night with the lower bumper lights on, and holding the light lever on FULL BEAM.

    I have no main light.

I have looked at the fuse box and it seems that they had a dvd music system or alarm hooked up with an extra wire coming out. Any thoughts on what to do?

How much for an auto spark to rectify?

PS theres no engine light warning or anything like that

  4. Hi guys,

last year I got the front brake pads and discs replace by kwik-fit. They gave me that guarantee thing where it said all parts and labour is guaranteed a lifetime.

Dont know how you can guarantee brake pads a lifetime???

anyhow, my rear ones have now gone - and i brought it to a local garage who; looking at all wheels said i needed them all replaced (shoes & discs), i explained the fronts were done last year, and they showed me the front discs and shoes, which were pretty well worn and some grinding had started on the disc also.

So I'm thinking of taking this up with knik-fit........ surely they should have lasted longer than a year no matter how you drive (i'm not particularly agressive).

What do you think? am i wasting my time?

    thanks

  5. Hi folks,

99 is200 sport, 75k, new timing belt last month.

I have just noticed a strange 'wubbing' noise (thats how I can only describe it). But its from the front wheels and as i get faster the noise becomes more rapid. The higher up the gears I go the louder it gets.

Does this sound like wheel bearings? Is it an urgent job to get sorted?

    cheers

  6. Had the same problem and was told by Lexus (Southampton) that they had never had that particular fault code before. It possibly COULD be incorrect valve timing as a new timing belt had been fitted just before I bought the car. Wanted to charge me approx 200 quid to check it out.

Contacted Lexus (Reading) from where the car originated from and they said it was the oil control valve(part number L15330-70010) and cost me 81.73 plus vat.

They told me that the best course of action was to add engine flush to clean engine, drain oil, renew filter and refill. Fit new oil control valve, get the warning lights turned off and that should do the trick.

Did all that was told to do and low and behold...........IT WORKED.

    Am now avery happy chappy

Crikey mate thats some forum recall you did, and just in time too!

I am at a complete loss with it. I would like to try your solution. Did you do it yourself? is it a tough job?

  7. Our survey says...........

    New timing belt and tensioner.

So we get warning light to tell us to change the cam belt and tensioner

Thats a new one on me, other than the belt stretching that far as to affect the timing, making the light come on ?

Got timimg belt replaced and new tensioner at local garage.

driving home.........................F**KING WARNING LIGHTS BACK ON!!!!!!!! :tsktsk:

If lexus cant diagnose it properly anyone in Northern Ireland know anyone who can????

  8. Found this in a Toyota repair manual;

DTC P1349 is also output after a foreign object is caught

in some part of the system in the engine oil and the system re-turns

to normal in a short time. As ECM controls so that foreign

objects are ejected, there is no problem about VVT. There is

also no problem since the oil filter should get the foreign object

    in the engine oil.

Loads of other tests to do in the manual (far too technical for me :)) but could be as simple as above....

Did the garage reset your ECU light and has it returned?

Yea mate they reset it and lo and behold its returned.

Do you think its a major inspection job?

  9. P1349/59- VVT system malfunction (Bank 1).

Possible areas to check: valve timing, oil control valve (OCV), VVT controller assembly or Engine ECU.

I don't know how to fix this problem...but have you had your timing belt changed recently? I'm asking this coz the timing maybe out?

    *****!

Sounds expensive, but I havent changed the timing belt, what should I look out for? or should I leave in to a garage?

The garage that did the diagnostic check- didn't they tell you what the problem might be? Someone else might know how to fix the problem, sit tight....

They said its a specific toyota/lexus prob, their machine couldnt give any more details other than the code.

I'm trying to stay away from the dealer as It costs a fortune just to look at it.

Theres only 71,000 miles on the car, surely a belt change should be at 100,000.

If theres no other way then I'll just have to suck it and see.
