  1. Shes gone guys, bit sad seeing it on tow by the AA (see pic below) and had to follow it 70 miles, got a full refund ! Just want to say thanks to everyone who offered to lend a hand ! The AA man couldnt help enough he even did a sniff test for me and it turned out the liquid did change colour very slowly and only slightly ! the engine rattles was as a result of the drive belt slipping on crap the rollers had built up ! he yanked the belt hard and the noises went away I will be back hopefully with a GS300 SPORT B) Hmm if I dont spend the money lol BIG BIG THANKS TO THE MEMBERS OF LEXUSOWNERSCLUB YOUR A GREAT BUNCH ! NOW HERES A SIGHT YOU DONT SEE OFTEN !
  2. OK thats it, ive had enough ! Now it sounds really rough for the first time a bit like the CAT or Exhaust has blown ! rattling churning sound towards the front ! Im taking my RAD off and all the bits and as someone said b4 "backheeling it to the trader" ! :( points for trying to keep her alive ! I WANT TO THANK EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU FOR HELPING ME OUT AND GIVING ME ADVICE, YOUR A GREAT BUNCH AND I WILL BE BACK AND UPDATE YOU ALL ! @ CHIPS I WILL SORT THAT CONTACT OUT FOR YOU ON MONDAY MATE ! BACK TO THE AUTOTRADER IN THE HUNT FOR LEX, THIS TIME I WANT CREAM LEATHERS LOL
  3. Thanks for the kind offer RYO and there is gurgling from behind the dash but getting less and less as I get more air out ! A friends previa had the gurgling dash turned out to be an airlock and was cured by Toyota ! @ chips yep I was looking for the drain plug on the head im gonna try find it as my mate suggested the other day. I didnt get the car from a garage but from a private trader and quite a decent chap, he's 80 miles away though and he has offered to take the car back and a full refund but I told him wont be till next week now he was ok with it. So basically I got some time to diagnose the problem. Just trying to get a decent garage to do the sniff test ! Before the RAD was stone cold but after my mate bled some air out and the rad is now getting hot ! Hmmm was looking at a GS300 sport MK1 the other day on ebay in blue Niceeeeee ! I think I will get another Lex if this one dont work out but this time take it for a proper blast and make sure the historys upto date !
  4. Hi guys, Had a friend come round yesterday who use to re-con engines, we warmed her up and then he started to release pressure from the RAD CAP and guess what a lot of air came out and the THERMO started opening and the heater started working also. We continued to do this for 2 hours and topping up slowly as he said you got some air pockets bigtime ! so now the coolant still runs into the expansion tank with bubbles streaming (assuming this is from the air pockets) but it doesnt come back to the RAD. The coolant temp is fine and I can even dip my finger in the expansion tank its luke warm. Only thing worrying is a lot of white FROTH comes out when I take the RAD cap off, no overheating though at all. I think I have major air pockets in the head and they push all the coolant from the radiator to the expansion tank and then further pockets of air stop the coolant coming back from the expansion tank so the RAD keeps requiring a top up and expansion tank becomes full. There were clouds of smoke from the water vapour in the exhaust but it didnt smell of coolant or anything, just clean water no oil and he said its just running a bit rich. Does this sound feasible ? I have to make a decision by next week wether to keep or her or return her, TOYOTA are booked up for a while ! Wheres the plug on the block to get the air out ? I heard somewhere that if you jack the car (passenger) on one side and slowly release pressure from the rad cap that would help get the pockets of air out. Hey just want to say you guys have been great so far and I really appreciate everyones contribution to my problem..If I could id buy you all a drink, maybe JAPFEST hey...No more Subaru to do the quarter mile with though :(
  5. He said pop the car back for a refund ! Hmm now what if its just the water pump ?? I did get the car for a snip at £2k anyway ! Might get it into Toyota tomorow to check out will they be familiar with these ? or better of going to LEX ?
  6. Have not got round to taking the thermo out yet and checking the water pump propellor, but I did fire her up for a bit and theres no coolant circulation what so ever although theres plenty of pressure on the hoses but everythings stone cold except the poor engine ! Just waiting for the miserable weather to clear up and to think its JUNE tut !
  7. Mate just call them and say theres something wrong with the car it wont start, dont go into detail just keep it brief soon enough AA man will come with his VIXEN laptop and hopefully immobilise ya immobiliser that immobilised you lol Good luck
  8. Nice one Rand, great idea mate: take the stat out and check the pump propellor ! Will do when it stops raining, the bearing noise was coming from the idling pulley (centre pulley) according to the AA who checked with his stethescope... The water pump is behind the alternator according to the Supra diagrams so will get up behind it to listen for any strange noises being emmited from there, if it's the water pump that would make sense of everything ! The noise is defo a bearing and not the pump screaming.. In the meantime I will just enjoy the super sound system on the drive lol Thanks again guys !
  9. Heres a cost effective tip, Previously I have had a few immob fail on me and I have just called the AA out who disabled them for good ! If you got AA cover call them it is a breakdown after all ! Good Luck mate !
  10. Hi, I changed the whole radiator with a new one and the pipes were ok not blocked though there was a bit of mud/sand in the expansion tank which I washed out. I was going to run water through the head to see if any crap came out but thought best keep the aluminium head away from tap water. Expansion tank behaves normal with the cap off, I think it's the water pump/head gasket as the water stays where it is and doesnt move anywhere and overheats ! I did everything I could, anyone had a failed water pump here ? I got the car 80miles away hence my reluctance to take it back as its not really drivable...Think I will get it checked by Toyota
  11. Hi, Used only the best Toyota red stuff from Lexus ! Ive drained and refilled many times and airlocks been ruled out, theres no leak at the pump ! Its really weird !
  12. Hi Guys, Thanks again.. I did phone the trader up and told him I dont mind spending a little bit on the car (water pump etc) but if its a headgasket problem im going to want him to sort it..He was quite nice about it and said see how you get on and if its major I will sort something out, im gonna get a bit out of him anyway. I got it for a good price and im a fair person hence my patience and I know when the cars done fully it will be a dream.. I fitted a radiator today brand new and guess what ! the bloody radiator stays COLD, the thermo dont open and the engine gets really hot when touching it(needle stays in middle), the bottom pipe still stays cold and the top pipe gets piping hot, the bottom pipe is cold but you can feel a lot of pressure in the pipe ! Its like theres no circulation (water pump?) and there is a bearing gone on one of the pulleys so which pulley is the water pump behind ? fan pulley ? Chips I tried the trick you suggested and theres not much movement in the water when reving the engine ! What pushes the water around the system ? does the water pump just aid the circulation or is it the sole contributor of the circulation ? My mechanic cant look at it for a while he's very busy hence why im trying to find answers in the meantime, and I dont trust the other cowboys. PS: Anyone looking for a rad PM me I will get you in touch with someone, its the least I can do for your contributions.
  13. UPDATE and PIC Mechanic had a look at it and took it for a test run, said runs like a dream and then we checked the radiator (whilst expansion tank was bubbling like someone was blowing into the pipe, streams of bubbles were coming up) most parts of the radiator were cold even though the engine/coolant were HOT ! He said the radiator may be blocked (I ran a hose pipe through it the other day and it was fine) Any other way of checking this ?? I am able to take the rad out myself.. Now I think as randyreindeer suggested it may be the water pump as its like theres no FORCE pushing the water around the system so the bottom pipe is not sucking the water and the top pipe is not forcing water into the radiator, and the water stays where it is and over heats thus forcing from the top pipe into the expansion tank ! I can get a radiator very cheap and thats a new one for about £120, how hard is it to fit a water pump ? I did get the car for a very good price but didnt expect major problems... I want my scooby back :-( will still phone the guy up tmrw and see what he says MUDZ HERE SHE IS
  14. I read that post when I was hammering the search, but at the end JACS turned out to be an air pocket 4ltrs less in RAD ? I know, I know ive got BHG denial syndrome at the mo !
  15. Hi guys, Thanks for the responses, just been looking at my rights and I have a few, im waiting for a mechanic friend to check it out so he can confirm what it is. I will wait and see before I call the dealer, I have the AA report confirming the problem occured an hour after I picked the car up ! If its a head gasket the cars going back or he can pay for the repairs ! Just wondering if anyone else had experienced the above symptons ? I got a feeling it is a BHG ! No compression test done yet. Feel like going round his and blowing his head gasket as im definate he was aware of the problem !
  16. Hi Guys, As some of you know I got my GS300 MK1 last week and had the AA out straight after I left the motorway due to the expansion tank bubbling ! Symptoms: Expansion tank bubbling Temp OK no problem, heaters ok, No mayo or sighns of BHG except a slight smell of petrol in the expansion tank (or maybe its just me) Both pipes get very hot/hard equally (thermo removed) Other then this the cars beautifull and just needs a idling pulley bearing fitting as a bit noisy Did the following to cure the problem: New thermostat New Rad cap Ran water through the RAD and it came out clean and flowed nicely Drained and re-filled with Toyota red stuff (dam expensive) Even currently have the car running without the thermo as it overheated when I did fit it. Its really got me down and after spending a whole day doing the above and the money ive spent ive had enough ! What could it be ? why is the temp gauge not going up even though the waters bubbling (I know its working because when the thermostat was on it did go way up) Could a failed water pump cause this ? The radiator must be ok as water ran through fine ? Ive had enough and may just cut my losses and stick her through an auction or go back to the guy who sold it me as he assured me it was fine and I did ask him if there were any head gasket problems or anything (trader from home) Any ideas would be greatly appreciated I really like the car and want to keep it
  17. Hi Guys, Thought I would just change the coolant by draining the radiator via the top and bottom hoses ! Ive been hammering the search function since I got my Lex this saturday and found most info I need but couldnt find anything on flushing the cooling system GS300 ! I want to flush whole cooling system inc engine, whats reverse flushing ? I bought a new thermostat and rad cap, 8 litres of pre-mixed coolant (dam expensive) from Lexus to do the job so im all prepared, this im hoping will get rid of the suspected air lock I HOPE PRAY TO *** IT IS AND NOT A BHG ! Anyone be kind enough to guide me to a link or give me some steps (maybe same for Supra engine) and is it safe to do this specially with the Aluminium head sensitive to tap water as im going to stick a water hose to flush all the crap out ! PS: Im still waiting for my workshop manuals (CD) from ebay Thanks in advance and it is much appreciated !
  18. Same here on the Honda cleaned the rims from inside and it did the job, hopefully that should cure it !
  19. Will take some snaps and link it to photobucket till I go gold, job for the weekend methinks ! Going to do the coolant flush this weekend and hope that does the job already love the car would be totaly gutted and if it turns out to be BHG, its all the little bits like the rear passenger lights and mini sunvisor (I think thats what it is) footwell lights etc ! LOVE IT ! I wanted one before I even went for the Impreza...I assume when I disconnect the two hoses that will drain most of the system out inc engine..
  20. Hi guys, After lurking this forum for years finally got my 1995 LEX GS300 MK1 in Pearl white 124k. Picked it up from a trader after saying bye to my Impreza Sti V1.. Few problems though, bubling water in expansion tank after the motorway drive back and gurgling from behind the dash, no rise in temp though Hmmm BHG GULP hope not ! No mayo on oil cap, cant see any sighns of water/oil mixing and hope its just trapped air that pushed the water out the expansion tank and NOT combustion gasses that heated the water ! Top hose gets hot but bottom hose stays medium ! Did get the AA out and he was baffled and said "I DONT GET MANY OF THESE" they are usually bulletproof ! we tried to create the symptons again but couldnt.... I have learnt a lot from this forum thanks to you all and first stop is the radiator cap, new thermostat and a radiator flush by removing both pipes and running a hose through it (is that right guys) Refill with Toyota red coolant but whats the capacity ? and how much will I need from Toyota ? I should refill it with the engine running after a bit of coolant has been put in rad to prevent air locks ? More then anything this post is to say HELLO and THANKS !
