  1. Looking at what has been written on here the early mk3s do have issues with the ECUs going wrong plus other bits and bobs. Problems occur on most new models of car and then are ironed out through the period of there life meaning the last ones made are the ones to have.
  2. HI all seen a few pictures here on the forum and elsewhere on the net of gs 430s and 300s with clear lensed back lights was just wondering whether any fellow members had put these on there cars and if so where did you get them from? Cheers James
  3. One thing i will say about them is they are damn quick ,you will really like what happens when you put your foot down :winky: .Get one with the sat nav and i think you would be extremely happy with it.
  4. Hi m8 it could be the tyres , i had my back ones changed a while a back and on the journey back the back end was doing exactly the same as you described. They seemed to bed in after a while but at the time it wasn't fun to drive on the motorway.
  5. The brake master cylinders dont go on all cars its just an issue that has happened to quite a few ,just test the brakes well to make sure they are not to spongey and work well and also the cylinder starts to make a noise when it is starting to go, if you do as search on here you find out exactly what to look for and what to listen out for. Also check for steering wheel wobble cars are prone to that , get the car up to a good speed and see if the steering wheel wobbles at all. When comes to checking whether the car is young or old its the same with all cars, check steering wheel to make sure its not to shiny and worn , check all the pedals to make sure the rubber on them is how it should ie if all the pedals rubber covers are worn away car has done lots of miles, check seats to see how worn they are can idicate the mileage just check all the interior well, again it will show how genuine the car is. When test driving at low speeds brings the windows down so you can listen out for any unusual noises and check all the equipment to make sure it works ,press every button. Obviously with the mileage it has done it will have natural wear and tear but that has to be within reason, Hope this helps theres lots more i could write but have to go just be sensible and dont let your heart rule your head if anything is not right about it walk away . James
  6. I have the same sensor wrong on my and i am in the process of getting it fixed. Lexus have quoted £ 170 just for the sensor while europarts say they have ones for around sixty so thats what you will be looking at for the part for that. The mechanic told me it will take him around 45 mins to do job so will be looking at around seventy for the work . Hope it helps.
  7. If it does how a good full service history with lots if paperwork to back it up car should be an ok buy, brake master cylinder will be the main thing to look out for ,pre 2000 cars have issues with this and its a very exspensive job to fix
  8. When you say it was making a strange noise what type of noise was it?
  9. Just come back from my usual weekend excersion to leicester but whilst there saw a lovely looking Gs . It was black with blacked out windows nice new alloys and led rear lights that looked the dogs. Was just wondering whether anyone on the forum was the owner? James
  10. Hi guys wondered if you had any ideas what this could be,hit a pot hole about a month ago and hit it hard, it was at the side of a metal manhole cover so i hit that aswell and knew it was gunna cause damage anyway in the last week the front suspension on that side has sarted to squeek.Seems to be comming from the shock absorber squeeks when you go over speed bumps and any uneven ground . Steering is ok fine driving at high speed and dosen't pull to that side and there is no play in the wheel on that side either, had a look at the suspension and nothing looks out of place. So was hoping if anyone had ideas to what the fault could be . Any help would be much appreciated . James.
  11. Hello m8 Ive had a 430 sport for just over a year , great engine but the rest of it not so sure about. What i will say is it is a glorified toyota and is no bmw or mercedes , i had a bmw 740 before and it aint a patch on that. When comes to parts i am just about to have it serviced and a guy i know in europarts can get me everything i need all the filters ,plugs everything even getting an o2 sensor for me, says he can get me virtually anything for it. Have been quoted around 240 for the cambelt to be done which i thought was reasonable so dont think you have to worry to much about that. When it comes to common problems with them brake master cylinder going is the main problem and very exspensive to fix but lexus sorted them on the later gs models.O2 sensors going seems to be common aswell and wheel wobble issues which alot of guys on here have had problems with, make sure you have a good test drive in one and get it up to a good speed to check for the dreaded steering wheel wobble. All i can say m8 when buying one get one with a good history preferrably lexus and as latter aged model as possiable . By the way i might be selling my in the in the future anyway good luck hope you get a goodun. James
  12. Imformation on that seems to be fague everyone says that they are bullitproof as well but reading on the america forums you do get some failures but dont think its a trend type of thing , just think i have been unlucky. The way i look at it for an example if my gearbox is knackered it 6-7 grand for a new one from lexus ,I will be very lucky if i find one elsewhere because there arent that many about ,but if it was a 300 i would easily be able to find a box from somewhere or buy an older car and break it for the tranny.
  13. Interesting. So what kind of glitches di you have and do you think they were more specific to the 430 or simply because you couldn't be as picky when selecting a GS? On dealers, I couldn't say. The Merc always goes to the main dealer and the Evo is serviced by the Ralliart dealer locally. The Lexus needs a service soon and I haven't decided yet whether to take it to a dealer or doing it myself. It does surprise me that that garage didn't want to deal with Lexus V8's. Did they deal with Lexus's at all? Don't think the problems i have had are because its the V8, have an oxygen sensor prob at the moment which seems to happen to both the 300 and 430 the more worrying problem ive had is the gearbox ,it decided a few times not to change up into top gear but over the last couple of months it has been behaving its self so i am going to get the fluid change and hope it continues to play ball. You are spot on about being able select the car you want when i was looking there was always alot of 300s around with very good history to pick from but the 430s were different they were very thin on the ground and i knew when i was buying my that i was taking a risk because although it had a full service history it wasnt a manufacturer one and to me that is king with any car. The V8 is superb i had a 4.4 V8 beamer before and its miles better than that , the lexus V8 does seem to be bullet proof from what i have read on both here and the america forums and i dont regret buying it because its such a nice car to drive but i feel because your not really intrested in performance you should go for a 300 because its the safer bet and you can get what you want without having to make any compromises which is what i had to do.
