Hunter Alignment systems have wrong camber data for the IS 200 !!!

Hi,

After having my IS200 aligned at Profile Tyre Center last November, I was not entirely pleased with the handling. On uneven roads it seemed to "Sidestep" at the rear axle as well as the front.

Today I went to a specialist that aligns and cornerweighs race cars, to have a look at the alignment again. They also had a Hunter system, and my car seemed to be aligned properly. But, the day before I had looked up the alignment specs of LOC knowledgebase, and noticed the Camber values were "inverted", plus being minus and vice versa, compared to my last alignment report.

Yikes! I have been driving on the outside of the tires since I got the car!

Apparently it had been aligned on such a system before.

After some debate, and after having looked at the alignment figures of a BMW e36 it was decided to make a new alignment setup in the Hunter computer, with negative interpretation of the camber settings. Now all is fine!!!

The report (in Dutch) can be found here.

Wielvlucht = Camber

Askanteling = Caster

Sporing = Toe

As you can see the camber, front and rear, had to be adjusted quite a bit in the opposite way. This also meant that the toe had to be adjusted quite far, "steering" the front wheels straight again. And because the front wheels tilt when steering, this affects the measured camber again.

So it was a slow-converging iteration which took some time. The guy took over an hour, but he was meticulate. they are also contacting Hunter about this. Apparently not many ISes have been measured by Hunter machines.

So, if you are going to get your IS aligned, take a copy of the IS 200 Tracking Settings from the knowledgebase. Especially if it turns out to be on a Hunter system.

Cheers,
