Dead Segments On Climate Control

Recommended Posts

hi, just curious but would a new lcd display fix dead segments on the clock, for example i am mising the 1 so 12 oclock becomes 2 oclock, and also the bottom segment on the next digit so it looks funny.

i had a go at fixing the bottom segment and then lost the 1 too, cant see where the fault is all the tracks beep on meter so are connected, i resoldered all the screen connections on that side of the screen and the above is what happend, i used a low power small iron and i know how to solder so i dont know what happend is it the lcd itself due to the heat or is it likely the board has a fault and is not powering the segment?

i have seen the lcds for sale but is there anywhere cheaper over £100 pound for that is silly those things cost about 50p to make i used to work in a factory that produced colour mobile screens and they were only £2 each wholesale.

any suggestions appreciated.

i have answered me own question! just took it apart and hooked up the lab scope, i found there is a double sided pcb joining the replaced screen to the origional board and that is where the problem was the tracks (2 of them) were not connecting to the other side of the board through the holes so i ran 2 little wires to link them and now it all works again, so my answer was no a new screen wouldnt have worked glad i found out before i bought one!
