  1. I have an amp out of a 95 GS300 in full working order for sale. The label on it states Pioneer GM 8036zt.
  2. That sounds about right. I got mine done yesterday by my local garage they charged me £100 labour and I got the belt from Lexus for £23 (surprisingly inexpensive for a Lexus part) apparently its 3 hours labour.
  3. My 96 GS300 cambelt is due for replacement, I was just wondering what is the lowest labour cost anyone has paid to get this job done by either a frnachised or non franchised garage.
  4. Mine had water in the boot on the sides but that was because I had the car valeted! Best thing to do is get inside the boot with a lead light / torch and get a mate to shut the boot and pour water from every direction with a hose, this worked when i had a similar problem in an Imprezza.
  5. If he cant get the job right after the second time I would demand my money back. The longer you leave it and keep taking the car back to him sometimes the court can take the view that you have accepted or partly accepted the poor job that he has done (not to mention the inconvenience to you in being without the car. Demand money back on the basis that he is not able to fix it properly you would have to take the car elsewhere to get the job done properly and that will cost you more money.
  6. Looks like they rushed the job but still it's appalling that they gave the car back to you in that state! I don't think you can ever get 100% perfect body work maybe near to it but not 100%. Being in the trade i have sent countless cars to my bodyshop man whilst on the whole he usually does a pretty good job but on the odd occassion he does slip up but never as bad as the job done on your car. Bad bodywork is not confined to the small workshops either I remember long ago giving in my then Celica to my local Toyota dealer for bodywork the car was returned in almost a bad a state as the pics you have posted, it then went back to them a further 2 times before they got it right! See how you get on when you collect the car back again otherwise demand your money back or take them to the small claims court.
  7. I am looking for an original fitment amplifier for GS300 1996 model year. It should say Pioneer GM 8036 on the unit. Mine only plays the right channel and the sub but does not play the left channel. Had an electronic engineer look at it, he rekons it's beyond repair and so I am on the lookout for a second hand one. If anyone is breaking their Mk1 GS300 or upgrading their ICE and do not require the original unit please let me know.
  8. Thanks Colin, will have a look at that also I've got the car booked in with another air con specialist for tomorrow morning.
  9. Why? I'd say a good independant can be just as good or bad as a franchised dealer. The Leeds Lexus is a joint Toyota/Lexus operation and despite being told that the Toyota side don't do lexus, everytime I've been in I've seen at least one Lexus up on the lifts being sorted by a lad in Toyota livery. Taking into consideration the difference in service costs for Lexus to Toyota this just seems a rip off. Up until recently I used the same independant that the previous owner used and have to say his facilities and work was proably the best I have ever come across. The only complaint I could site was that he changed the sparkplugs at 45,000 (After ringing the local Lexus dealer for confirmation) and then did it again at 90,000. I had meant to point it out to him when I dropped it off but forgot :tsktsk: To be fair he is one of the older generation and took great pride in his work and you could tell. ← I would have to agree I have come across many a situation when the independent (a good independent) is equal to if not better then many main dealers out there & on top of that you can save yourself an arm and a leg off the main dealer labour rates. The main thing when buying any car should be a full service history preferably with service invoices attached rather then just a stamped up book, so that you can see exactly what has been done to the car.
  10. There is enough gas in the system as the air con man checked this and I know that the compressor doesnt work, what i'd like to know is if there is something else that might cause the compressor to fail to stay switched on, as currently it does come on for a couple of seconds and then automatically switches off. Just trying to avoid the big expense of replacing the compressor if at all possible.
  11. Hi Just bought a 1996 GS300 with faulty air con. When you press the AC switch on the dash the light comes on for a couple of seconds and you can see the engine revs increase on the tach however after a couple of seconds the revs decreases back to normal idle speed and at same time the AC light starts blinking. Had a mobile AirCon man come have a look it he recons it needs a new compressor. Does anyone know if this really is the case or is there anything else that might need looking at? There is enough gas in the system.
