  1. Why don't we just all agree to obey the law?

If you don't care about your own safety, please spare a thought for other road users.

You could argue that there are a lot of other ways you can break the law in a lexus that lexus do not block us doing.

The offence code is MP50 "Failure to have your vehicle under proper control" For which you now receive 3 points and a £60 fine. That can be used for anything, including clicking on page 3 and selecting a speed dial option, drinking from a can, looking down and adjusting your heated seats, anything.

I think at the end of the day, Lexus should unlock the controls and it is down to the common sense of the individual to decide what they want to do no Lexus. Otherwise we could argue that Lexus should limit their cars to 70mph, so we can not break the speed limit. LOL

  2. I suspect you have been sold the wrong tyre :( If I remember the weight code should be 91W not 95W and there is a little code round the outside which is the compound. I know this as the tyre place I went to phoned up Bridgestone twice while I was there to check and double check the tyre. Those I found on the www. and that I phoned locally were not a like for like spec.

All the tyres on my car are 95w's, I just read what was on there and replaced it with the same. The car has only done 7000 miles and they are the original tyres that came with the car when I brought it :)

  3. Well I had one for the weekend and I am very very impressed.

More power, more space, more comfort being 6' 4" tall, economy is excellent. I did the same trip I did in my IS250, rush hour, sat in queues, IS250 I average around 28mpg, RX400h I averaged at 39mpg!!! Impressive....

Downsides, it does not corner as well as the IS250, not sure on the looks in comparison, not sure you can compare them really as they are totally different cars, bit worried about the braking in the RX, you slam on the anchors in the wet and it does not feel as well put on the road as the IS, but again, being a big 4x4 I would not expect that anyway.

Over all though, very very impressed and it is looking very likely I am going to be changing next month if I can find one with the MM pack that allows me to play DVD in the front as well as the back, I believe the MM update happened on the Oct '06 models and newer, so I was told by the dealer....

    Very nice though.

I also have looked at the BMW 335d estate, that shifts, not quite as much space though

  4. Thanks guys, really helpful....

I have to say, getting the Bridgestone Potenza 145/45/r17 95W RE050 for £119.80 all fitted and done I went for the new tyre, I guess it is my paranoia that makes me feel better having a new tyre.

The garage I went to to have it repaired only stuck on a little patch like I used to fit on my bicycle! I was just not happy with it and it was quite a big hole, so I went for a replacement.

I phoned Kwik fit and another local firm to me and neither were under £180 for the same tyre! I love Bracknell tyres! They beat all the price round here, only down side is you have to wait forever to get in!

Thanks though for all your advice on this!

Crazy really as I am thinking about changing over to an RX400h in the next month or so! :crybaby:

  5. Pants,

I have driven some SUV's - my only comment is watch out when braking - seriously - the awe and pitch (especially in the RX) can take a bit of getting used to - especially from high speed. Also, when you put your foot down mid corner, be prepared to grab a few things...

Other than that, the lack of road noise and overall refinement of the RX400h is to die for...it's brilliant...

Jambo, you have to be one of the most responsive, helpful chaps on this forum.... Thanks for that, whilst I have the test car for the weekend, I will have feel round corners and perhaps emergency brake it somewhere to see.

  6. I'm in the process of looking at the Approved cars at the minute, just have to wait until the right one comes along. You best bet would be to book a drive in the 250 with the auto box. A few months back I test drove the 250 and the 220 on the same day.

My mind is now set on the 250 SE-l in brechin slate with black leather interior with auto and multimedia :)

I was looking at getting a brand new one, and might still do if one doesn't turn up soon :crybaby:

May be selling mine soon :) My Lexus IS250 but not in your colour :(

  7. Hello, welcome...

Personally I would get a petrol, seems to have a bit more power, which is important to me.

The sat nav is worth it as it comes as part of the multimedia pack, which is definitely worth it! Well, its not worth that much money, but it is brilliant! The sound system impresses the hell out of me, having the DVD option as well is nice.

I am sure you will not go wrong with either type, I do wish I had the electronic steering column and memory seats.

  8. It's one ofthe problems with Electronic Variable speed power steering...happened on mine once!! But only when I was trying a complicated fullish lock quick getaway...like you...

It's at those times you wish you were wearing cycle clips...or brown pants!!

It was a regular occurence on our Honda Jazz!!!!

    LOL about the cycle clips!

Yeah, it is just amazing how heavy it goes!

I have to confess, if I had a proper hold, ten to two, of the steering wheel I would have probably recovered it better, but all the same, when you are not ready for it, it makes you jump!

I will respect the car in that instance a little more next time!

  9. So, I am parallel parked on a busy main road, it is a common place to park outside this parade of shops. To get out of these spaces you do have to get a move on.

When I came out to my car, someone had parked quite close to the front and the back of the car. I got in the car, flapped out the mirrors and a rather nice motorist on the main road flashed me to pull out, I was not quite ready to I rushed the car into reverse and whilst backing up enough so I could swing the car out I quickly put the car to full left lock, then once ready to pull out, I fully turned the steering all the way to the right to swing out, waved the car for letting me out and put my foot down to nip out the gap!

    No problems there...

Only as I pulled out the gap, I had to turn my steering back to the left to pull me into a straight course on the main road, suddenly my steering went rock solid! Like the power steering had totally failed, I was not ready for this at all and almost mounted the opposite pavement! In a split second I come off the power, yanked the steering and it suddenly freed up, jeees it made my heart skip a few beats.

I have had this before, if I am doing tight, quick manouvres, the steering seems to go stiff.

Be warned, this is scary when it happens at just the wrong place.

    Has anyone else had this?

  10. I have had all sorts of cars including BMW's, Honda's and a Scooby STi... Oh and of course a lovely lexus, well two in fact and I think they are brilliant cars!

I have always joined forums related to my cars and always read the same things about rattles, noises, poor paint work etc etc...

Do you think there is a perfect car out there, or perhaps a car that comes really close to being perfect....? One where the forum is alwasy saying good things and hardly any reports of problems? :crying:

  11. I am thinking about changing my vehicle, well in fact, I have to change my vehicle for something a little more practical in terms of loading space. I had an RX400h loan car some time back and was impressed, however, I did only have it for a short period of time.

I have a new IS250, '06plate, thinking of chopping it in for the RX400h, few questions...

    1. Economy, on paper they seem similar to the IS250, is this the case in reality

    2. Over all running costs?

    3. whats your opinion of them, pros and cons, are they any good??

  12. I am trying to find the new 2007 Doctor Who theme song in MP3 or WAV format for my mobile phone, anyone out there got it??

Unfortunately through my work account I can not link to many sites as everything is blocked! So if you can send it to me, that would be fantastic!

    Thanks in advance... :D
