  1. If the batteries need more power the engine starts, perhaps he had the aircon on and with the drain of the electric motors, the engine kicked in. It is totally automatic when the engine does kick in, for example on a very very cold morning the engine will come on every time.

When they are running on elec motors, they are not totally silent anyway....

It is about economy more than silence, I have to confess, I think the engine sounds quite nice and meety on them! :)

  2. I always work on the premiss that you should delay the theif, not try to stop them. The longer you delay them, the less chance you have of losing your car or being burgled at home or what ever.

Like ontheroad1 said, the simplest ideas can stall a theif long enough that they give up and go! A hidden key would have them stumped!

You have to think like a theif to delay them as much as possible. I am an ex-police officer and dealt with burglaries and thefts and the more I saw the more ideas I came up with to stall them. In the house, going on "ontheroad1's" ideas, putting up a fake key rack and hiding the real one stalls the theif, sometimes they will break in and want the keys to nick the car, or open a door to get stuff out the house, or they run with the keys, thinking they have a result and the intention to come back later!

One thing I would say, I have never been to a burglary that the people have owned a big dog, thinking about it, or a little one! I have been to one where the dog was locked in the kitchen however, dog owners beware.

Theives will always find a way around any system that is put in place.

Perhaps Lexus should supply a doberman with each car, you press a button and it is released into the car. Or for a more pratical option, a cobra snake that will fit in the glove box, you just need to train it to get back into the glove box when it sees you want to get in the car! :D

  3. got to the car this morning to find the alloy wheels 'clean' around the dustcap area. first thought was someone has been trying to get the dust cap covers off. so a big thanks to the person who recommended the anti theft dust cap covers (the ones that spin and spin and spin). would love to have seen the morons faces as they were trying.

looks like they had a go at all wheels before giving up.

    What, how, where???

I have not heard of these, how do they work and where do you get them? Also, how do you get round them?

  4. You may want to check under the bonnet for leaks mate! I remember when I brought mine I asked for a top up bottle of oil and the sales man laughed at me and said he has never heard of an IS250 that needs topping up before, I have done 6500 miles and have not lost a drop in that and I dont hang around in it, may not be enthusiastic as you put it, but not an old man either!

How old a man do you have to be before you lose your ability to drive enthusiastically then? :D

    70?

  5. Mate, are you sure it is the speaker, I thought my centre speaker had a rattle, but I found if I gripped the window vent and firmly pressed it, the rattle stopped. It is like they have made a whole in the dashboard to put in the plastic direction grills for the window and it is where the grill sits in the dash that causes the noise... Only a thought....? :duh:

Did you get your noise sorted Pants? - if so how? - I've re-packed the speaker cover with foam and its made no difference - there's so many small, intermittent noises, one minute they seem to come from the speaker cover, then from the gearlever gaiter, or the passenger side window . . . its only a small noise which passengers in the car never notice but its doing my head in :crying: . . . I think the best option is leaving the radio on

sorry for the slow response buddy, I kept missing this post for some reason.

Yes, it has gone now, I have to confess, through my frustration with this constant ticking, almost like there is a leaf blowing around in the vent noise, I shoved my fingers into the window demist vent and gave it a hard pull to sort of reposition it in the dash board. Touch wood, it has never returned. I would say though that these IS250's are very prone to rattles and squeaks dependant on temperature. On a cold morning my centre console squeaks and makes quite disturbing cracking sounds, I found by keeping my knee from resting on the side of the centre console stops that, my left door makes the occasional rattle. Also I get rattles and squeaks from the glove box some mornings and I have nothing in it except a rag for the window!

  6. This aint just a lexus thing this is pretty much all cars with steering lock, when you get out if the lock is fully on then when you try to start it the car cant release it.

Happens all the time with our work cars just turn wheel away slightyly from the lock and press the buttong.

Yes that is a good point, you would never force your key would you, you would wiggle the steering whilst turning the key.

I had a weird thing the other day, I went to the boot of the car, the car was locked, I loaded by stuff in, shut the boot and the car beeped at me, it was still locked and nothing weird had happened. I opened the boot again and closed it and nothing happened, so it was fine??

  8. Guys,

I am thinking about selling my IS250 and buying a RX400h, I need something a bit more practical and do not want to give up my Lexus quality, so I thought the 400h would be a good choice.

Not sure what to put mine on the market at though...

    06 plate

    IS250SE

    Multimedia pack

    6500 miles

    Silver......

Any ideas on what this is worth private sale?

Or would it be better just to chop it in?

  9. yes, I have had that, it is when you lock the steering wheel too tightly against the steering lock. I always flick my steering wheel when I get out of my car to ensure it is locked. Once I did it and I had the steering wheel over to one side, so in effect it was pressing against the tyres, so when I locked it the steering was pushing hard against the lock. The electronic release is obviously not powerful enough to disable the steering lock and throws up that message.

I now just hold the steering and let it release.

Also had the same with Key Battery Low warning.... Or something like that.

  10. Well I spoke to the service department at Lexus Bracknell and they are going to do the customization for free, which is wonderful of them.... :)

Going in today to get it switched off.

If any of you ever do go to Lexus Bracknell, there is a young lady there called Mel who has to be the most customer focussed and helpful person I have ever had the fortune to meet. I think the centre managers need to recognise how important the after sales service is, having someone like Mel in their business can earn the garage a lot of money as I will go back to buy another Lexus knowing I will be looked after.

It is amazing, with my Honda motorcycle it is a totally different experience, the garage I use is the biggest waste of space I have ever come across! I will not name names, but one thing for sure, I will not be buying another Honda! :(

May get a personalisation list off the dealer and see what other features I can switch on and off.

  11. ....Like Tango, with the charger plugged in (in the cigar lighter socket as I can't find a charger small enough for the one in the arm-rest) there is a lot of "noise".....

This is a Monster Cable Ultra-Low Profile Charger for iPod With Dock Connection. It fits under the armrest and works a treat.

    ipodcharge.jpg

Thats the one I have and I get engine rev whistle through the speakers when I have that plugged in. It needs some sort of supressor fitted to it. Perhaps a ferrite bead? Or is that just for monitors?

  12. I compress mine to 320kb, not sure if I can hear the difference between 192kb and 320kb, I feel better knowing it is the best quality it can be, plus I have loads of space on my ipod.

I also get the engine rev whistle and crackle if I have the charger plugged in whilst listening, I generally charge it and run it flat in the car. I also forget to switch it off so its left running for the night! Shame there is not built in ipod link into the car, so you have full control from the steering wheel. Fiddling with the ipod is as bad as using a mobile phone whilst driving and you could get done for it as well. :(
