  1. Thanks Guys Colin - My GS sport has two screws that hold the froo sent lip to the front spoiler. Is this common. I only ask as I think I've seen other GS Sports without the two screws??? I'm going to have a closer inspection to see how effective the hairdryer approach is. If too difficult I might ask Chips Away to give me a quote (a friend has used them recentl and they did a good job a bumper scrape) Thank you all for your advice, when the rain eases I will use your advice and let you know how it goes. Thanks
  2. Thank you all for your advice. I removed some oil form the G/B and re-checked the level. I used the same method P to L and back to P again and left the engine running. Quickly, popped the hood and checked the levels. Removed dipstick and looked at first reading which showed it was dead on the H level. Cleaned the dipstick and checked again and it showed just above the L level. one minute later checked again an it was the same ..just above L level, noting that it was in P and the engine was running. I presume the last two reading are the ones to read. In relation the G/B. I resett the G/B memory to ensure the G/B used my driving style. But I have very gentle with the car and as such the changes are a little more jerky. But this could be due to the fact that I bought the car about a month agao and it's my first auto,co it could be that I'm noticing the changes more than I did. I think I'll reset the G/B settings again and be a little less gentle. Many thanks
  3. OUCH ! I was waiting in Asda and this guy reversed into a brand new Merc next to me, looked back and drove off as I jumped out the car to examine the damage, was only minor but still visible...Could have been my car so as soon as the owner came I gave him the details of the offending vehicle he was well pi$$ed as he only got the car a few days ago.. If its the same black stuff they stick bodykits on with its a bit of a mission mate but try a hairdryer and a scraper if not I will ask my mate how he got his off in the end. I wouldnt take it to main dealer personally im sure there are some good bodyshops around. ← Yes, its looks like black rubbery glue which is quite hard and tough. If you can find out how I could remove it I would be grateful. Could the hairdrier burn the paintwork as well????
  4. Thanks guys. I think your right, I'm just being overly cautious, 9 or 10k shoulde be fine. Thanks
  5. Thanks Norkep, I used your advice and found the Autobox oil level too high, me thinks!!!. It was about 0.75cm above the H level. I've taken out about 100ml I think. Do you know ow much the auto takes from L to H?? Thanks
  6. Hi I'm having problems checking my autobox oil level. I ran the car for 20 mins, parked the car, ran through the gears P to L and back to P again Ran to the fron of the car and pulled out the dipstick which read dead on the H level. I then wiped the dipstick and took another reading and this time is was about a 0.75cm above the H level. Would anyone know which reading is the right one???? Just one more silly question, how can I detect when my auto is slipping. Any tips gratefully received. Thanks
  7. Thanks Colin and dangerous brain, I think your right I may stick to halfords 5w-40 fully syn and change every 6k. I do about 1.5k a month mainly on the motorways How do I contact 'mkIV sopp forum'. Sorry, I'm new to this site.
  8. Thanks, I'll have a look and ring them on Monday. I could re-fit the front lip if I knew how to take off the black rubber glue.
  9. Thanks for the tips. I think I'll drain and fill 2 more times after xmas. As for the engine oil, I'm aiming to change every 5 or 6k and will probably use Mobil 1, particularly during winter. In terms of the power steering, my lexus manual advises dextron II or III, should I still use T-IV??? Thanks
  10. I've got 245/40/18 on my Mk II and must say the ride is alot harsher than my ...don't laugh....Vectra which was on 205/55/16. I've just changed my tyres recently and, had I thought of it at the time, I may have opted for 45s rather than the recommended 40s, but this would have affected my speedo rating. But the ride isn't too bad on motorways. However, the handling is amazing...so much grip.
  11. Hi Took my car to the local supermarket this morning and returned to find that someone had slightly scraped by front bumper which, for some reason, caused the front lip to dropped off!!! In terms of the front lip, I think the previous owner has used some black rubber stuff to hold the front spoiler in. I could take it to lexus in Woodford to repair but it probably cost quite a lot. Does anyone know of good but cheap bodyshop along in the M11 or a tip in removing the black rubbery glue?? Any tips please?? :) Thanks
  12. Hi All, I've just joined the site as as Gold Member as it proved very useful in helping me to buy my Lexus GS Sport Mk II, nearly bought a BM. I must admit they are amazing cars. I bought the Lexus about a month ago and have started servicing the car. This is the fist auto I have had and as such I decided to take to my local Toyota dealership to drain and refill the Autobox. BIG MISTAKE Instead of using the recommended ATF IV they used 2 litres of of Dextron III . You would of thought they would know. In the end, after alot of "its the right fluid sir..we've done this for years sir...I'm a fully qualified technician sir" they finally agreed to drain and refill the Auto box. This involved them draining, refilling and running the car through the gears (noting car was stationary) three times. They used approx 7 litres. I had a niggling doubt that this may not be enough. A couple of days later, I bought 10 lites of ATF (£90) and drained and refilled the Auto box. But this time I drove the car 2 miles before each flush. My question are: 1. Would this be enough to have drained the old Dextron III??? 2. How do I check the auto box fluid level (I have been told so many stories on this one)??? 3. As the car was stood for over six months by the previous owner, what else should change for peace of mind??? 4. I have used Halfords 5w-40 fully synthetic. Is this any good??? 5. And finally (sorry). Would anyone know how to drain the power steering system as the fluid is a brown colour rather than the preferred pink??? Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks :)
