  1. Thanks you both for your advice. I wasn't thinking of Kwik-Disasters/Fit , but a independant who usually works on Hondas. Any advice regarding Spark Plugs?? Cheers :)
  2. Hi All, I'm going to give myself a meachanical challenge by changing the spark plugs from on my GS 300 (MKII). It would seem a straight forward job, but it looks like I'm going to remove the inlet manifold. If so, could someone inform me what gasket parts I need to order?? In terms of the cambelt (a job too big me), it looks like I'm going to either ask me local mechanic to sort out or lexus. I hear that its quite a job for non-lexus mechanics to take off one of the nuts off. So should I risk a non-lexus mechanic try to take it off or should I try Lexus. Any guidance greatly appreciated. :)
  3. Yesteday, I got an average of 30mpg at 65mph (constant speed on M1 , so 18 and 21 are pretty low. Could be your sparks, Oxygen sensors or air filter blocked
  4. There has been alot of debate and comparisons regarding the mpg of the GS300 model, so I thought I would try and give a test: Car: Lexus GS 300 Sport Mileage: 120,000 Service details: Usually do it myself, Oil Changed: 2,000 miles ago, oil used Halfords Fully Syn, Air Fliter changed 2,000 miles ago. The Run: Milton Keynes to Sheffield (120 miles, i think) Time: Midnight (never needed to slow down or speed up) Tyre Presures: 32PSI all round Load: Just me and a suitcase Outside Temp: 3C Average Speed (on Cruise): 73mph on Speedo (70mph according to Computer) Total MPG: 28.4MPG Is this any good?
  5. Hi, I too have a GS Sport on a 2000 plate and have had the same knocking issues. I replaced the front and rear bushes. Car now handles far better and knocking noise has stopped.
  6. Hi All I have a GS300 MKII. As with all GS300 it has leather seats. My seats are black with a grey piping and I was wondering whether anyone knows of a firm that can paint the piping on the seats from the current grey to a bright red or better still remove the grey piping and insert bright red piping. I have seen red piping on black leather seats in a Lotus GT and it looks really stunning? Can this be done?? has anyone done this and if so how much does it cost?? I'm based in Hertfordshire/Essex borders. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks
  7. Hi Thanks Morse. I've tried the Prolex website and I they don't seem to stock it? I will give them a ring at the weekend. If anyone else know of any companies that sell double twin port exhaust please let me know. Many Thanks
  8. Hi All, I have a MKII GS300 Sport and as you're all aware it has a twin exhaust. I was wondering where I can get a modified exhaust (not a loud one though) which has two pipes at each end (similiart to the Porche Turbo model). I'm not sure whether a twin outlet will fit. Would anyone out there know where I can get one, how much it may cost??? Any tips would be greatefully received Thanks
  9. Hi All, I currently have a lexus gs300 Sport MK II and absolutely love the car (except its mpg). My wife currently has a Mitsubishi Space Wagon (2000) MPV and would like a Toyota Previa (new shape), but I have thinking RX. I have looking at changing the MPV for a RX300 (limited cash so before 2001 model). I was wondering whether fellow collegues on the RX site could give me some advice. Could you please tell me: - what is the mpg like? - any weak areas I should look for? - what spec shoud I go for, any? -whether I should go for an import? - and importantly whether they have a third proper 3 pointed - seat belt for third child seat (expecting third child next year). Any advice or guidance much appreciated? Many Thanks
  10. Hi All, I have a GS 300 MKII Sport (99 model) the car came with GS Sport car mats, but unfortunately they are looking abit worn (particularly drivers side). Would anyone know where I can get a new set and how much they cost??? All advice greatly appreciated. Thanks
  11. Hi All I have a MK 11 GS 300. The cambelt on mine was changed at 60k about 3 years ago. I have had it since 90k. Noting that I'm always on motoways (98% of time) I was wondering, as I have now done 111k, can I push this to 130k (10K beyond the change of belt point - 120k)???
  12. Hi I have a GS300 (2000), which I presume has the same engine as yours. I have regularly used fully synthetic oil (Mobil 1 - 0w-40) and have not encountered any problems. In relation to your MPG 'meter' you may wish to reset the ECU. You can do this by taking the leads off your battery for 10 mins and then reconnecting them. This will reset the ECU an MAY resolve you MPG meter. However, you will need the security code before you do this. If you do alot of town driving, the mileage may be correct, as the 300 engine is very thirsty around town. I can also do 20mpg if i do alot of town driving. Good Luck Mohammed
  13. Thanks for the comments. I think as my car is a standard GS MKII and not a chipped or turbo I'll stick to standard platinum plugs. I can't be changing the plugs every 30k, particularly as it has a manifold over two of them. Thank you all for your advice.
  14. Thank you all for your comments. If Iridium need to be changed at every 30k I think I may stick to standard platinum plugs instead. But will iridium plugs be better than standard in terms of performance. As anyone very used them and found them better??
  15. Hi All, I'm about to change the spark plugs on my GS MKII next week and was wondering whether Iridium spark plugs are better in terms of performance and longivity. I don't want to be changing them less that the standard 60k service, as it looks like a bugger to change. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks
  16. When changing the gearbox oil, make sure you use the recommended T-IV from Toyota and not any type of Dextron (even if its is a Toyota make).
  17. Hi All, Thanks for all the advice. I think I may have doing it incorrectly and this advice will prove very useful. I'm going to ditch Auto Glym and Mer as I don't think they are useful. I have Maguirs step 3 wax which I bough from Halfords, and wish to keep. So, Can anyone one advise which other polish and sealants I should use. I'm looking for good protection and looks. I wash my car every one or two weeks and am aiming to wax every two or three washes during the summer, noting that I will be completing all three stages before autumn and winter set in. Any advice greatly appreciated Thanks
  18. Hi All, Q1 Since the weather has been so good, I've started to polish my car. I started with Mer, waxed with Mequires and sealed with Auto Glym. But now I have found myself in a ritual which is taking over my life (wifey not very happy). Everytime I wash the car (every week), I find myself giving it another layer of wax and then sealant. On Sunday, I had a terrible thought, 'Could I be damaging my precious paintwork'. Q2 I'm also slightly confused...should I be polishing, waxing and sealing or should it be polishing, sealing and then waxing? So, am I overdoing it ??? and what system of detailing should I be using, what system works for you?? Any tips greatly appreciated. Thanks
  19. Hi All It's time to service GS 300 (MKII) and since I didn't change the fuel filter the last time (hoping it should be ok ) I was wondering would anyone know where it is on the MKII. I also had a peep at the air filter, although I changed it 15k miles ago, it's filthy so I'd better change that too I was also thinking of adding a fuel injector/valve cleaner, are they any good? can anyone recommend a decent one?? or are they a waste of time Any advice greatly appreciated Cheers :D P.S What do people think of oil flush additives, should I use one even though the oil is renewed every 10k??
  20. Hi All, Well since the sun is out I thought I would try and paint the capilers and wondered whether members had any tips (first time I have ever tried this). The questions I have are:- -The car is red and I was think of red paint or do you think I should go for the boy racer yellow or do you have any other suggestions?? -Should I use a Hammerite as an undercoat as it is rather lumpy stuff ahy other suggestions?? -Where can I get Lexus caliper logos?? - Does anyone have any pictures which you could show me of different painted calipers?? - Does everyones partner think painting their cars calipers is sad or am I unque in this?? Any advise or suggestions greatly Thanks
  21. Hi All, I have a GS MK II and wondered whether anyone could advise me. Over the past couple of months I noticed a noise from one of my exhausts, after inspection it I found that one of my exhaust heat shields had come off the bolts, other than the noise it made I didn't think it would be problem and thought I would fix it once I needed a new exhaust maybe next year as it doesn't yet need replacing. However, last night I was driving on the M11 and the heat shield dropped off. Now I'm a little concerned . Can anyone tell me whether I should get it replaced or leave it as it is without the heat shield?? Any advise greatly appreciated.
  22. Hi Maneesh, I wouldn't mind a set of clear door lenses too. How much are they?? Arif
  23. Hi All, It looks like its going to getter warmer and drier this week (it can only get better ) and since it's half-term and I thought I would give my GS a decent polish and wax, I think it needs it. I have bought Mer Polish and Autoglms Gloss sealant. I am aiming to polish the car once with Mer and seal it with Autoglms Gloss Sealant two or three times. My question are:- 1. What do people think of products? 2. Are there any other products that are better? 3. If I seal it two or three times would it give alot more protection or am I justing wasting time and effort, and if so, how long? Any views appreciated. :)
