  1. Hi Kate, I had a similiar problem on my GS MKII which was extremely annoying. I checked the ball joints, shocks, springs and brakes by my mechanic. A friend of mine that had a MKI said I should change the anti-roll bar bushes as it was the cheapest option. The bushes were ordered from Lexus and my mechanic changed the anti-roll bar bushes on my front suspension and it has resolved my problem and car handles alot better. The bushes cost £15 and £20 for the labour. I would try that first and see if it works. Arif
  2. I can sympathise. My mechanic told me that my front disks were warped as I could feel vibration when applying the brakes (particularly from 80 to 60). So I replaced them. Guess what happens next? I can still feel the vibration, although not as bad as before. He now tells me that the back disks and pads need replacing. Could it be that I have already warped the disks, noting that I am quite gentle with the car, or the back disks do need replacing too??? really confused or really ripped off??? Help??
  3. Many Thanks Maneesh, I have bought some anti-roll bar bushes to spice up the handling abit, which I will be fittting in a couple of weeks. Whilst I'm under the car I will check the central control arm bushes Many Thanks for the excellent advice Hi All, I thought it would be useful to provide an update on the saga. I changed my disks and pads together with the anti-roll bar bushes (front and back). The mechanic charged me £70 and the new parts were Lexus. The good news is that it worked, there is no knocking noise from the front and the car handles the road alot better. However, the problem could have been that the bottom slider pin on the caliper was a little lose, the mechanic feels that it could have been either the brakes or bushes. The buhes were a little soft but no completley worn. One more question. Would anyone know how long it takes to bed in a new set of pads and disks. I have been told "not to work them hard". But its pretty difficult when your always on the motorway. Thanks

  5. Thanks Maneesh, I'll check out the US forums and if necessary buy from the US too. Any ideas on how much the labour would cost..seems like a big job? Thanks
  6. Hi The mileage is exactly 100k. If it is the control arm bushes how can I check them???? I have also read that it could also be the anti-roll bar and if so how can I check it?? Thanks Maneesh
  7. Hi All, I was wondering whether someone could help? I have a GS 300 Sport MK2 2000 model. There is a knocking noise from the front suspension in a straight line when going over minor bumps and imperfections in the road, but I will always hear in when driving right into my drive over a hump. I have had mechanics (non-lexus) check and they can't find the problem. They have said that the ball joints and shockers are fine and I have tried to move the calipers by hand through the alloy wheels to see if there is any movement, but I can't see any (I could be doing this bit incorrectly ). Oh and I do have warped brake discs (vibration from 30 mph onwards) this could be factor (to be replaced next week). Any help or experiences from fellow lexus owners would be really useful. :) Many Thanks
  8. Many Thanks Chips for the very comprehensive tips on both the PS and BF. I'm going to start work on the Power Steering at the weekend and bleed the brakes after I have fitted some new front disks and pads next month. Thanks Again
  9. Hi All, I'm looking to change the sparks plugs on my GS 300 Mk II. I want to increase the performance and wondered which ones are better? I hear you can get performance spark plugs (ridium??) which are more expensive than platinum, but are they that much better than platinum??? and are there any draw back? I'm not going to change them myself as it looks pretty tricky removing the two plugs in the middle, so should I sent the car off to lexus to change them (noting the cost) or should I try a reputable garage?? Any views gratefully received Many Thanks
  10. I actually phoned Cambridge yesterday and had a long chat. Because I do not have the remote key, they told me it would be over £1000 to renew the security system - so beware :-) Peter Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Is there any way you could trace the key
  11. Hi When I bough my car and after negotiation of the deal, I ended up with one key . I contacted Cambridge Lexus who quoted me £120. I hope this helps
  12. Hi All, I was wondering whether someone could give me some guidance. I have recently bought a Lexus GS 300 Mk II (3 months ago) and have changed the engine oil (fully synthetic) and gearbox oil (T-IV of course). Yesterday, I thought I'd check my power-steering fluid and brake fluid. Apparently the steering fuid should look red, but mine has a dirty brown colouring (not good I presume ) I have a bought a couple of pints of Dextron III and aiming to change the fluid. As for the brake fluid, it is looking not too healthy either. I have bought DOT 5.1 Fluid (Halfords) instead of DOT 4 thinking this may provide better stopping power I have bleed my previous cars brakes ( a Vectra...don't laugh) which involved bleeding each valve diagonally starting from the right rear wheel. Would it be the same for a Lexus??? So I was wondering whether someone could let me know as to how to bleed the brakes and power steering. Any tips greatly appreciated :D
  13. I'm getting 25-27 mpg average, noting that 95% of my driving is on motorways (M11, M25, M1) at 70-75 and the rest on country roads on cruise control. The oil has been changed (fully syn 5W-40), but the air filter needs changing. I think its pretty naff mpg, hopefully is may improve when I change the air filter.
  14. I've also tried BP Ultimate, Optimax and Tesco Super Unleaded and seem to get similiar mpg. I was wondering though whether Tesco Super Unleaded has fuel additatives as I understand that normal 95 ron Tesco unleaded doesn't. But in reply to your question I haven't noticed the difference, even after resetting my ECU.
  15. Thank you all for your advice. I'm going to order some mintex pads and disks and will let you know what their like. In terms of bleeding the brakes, is this the right procedure;- right rear left front right front left rear Thanks
  16. Hi All, I've had my GS MKII for about 3 months, lovely car, but the brakes are pretty naff in comparison to other cars. So as they are warped (rumble when braking from even 40 to 20mph) I think its time for them to be replaced with the pads. I was wondering which disks to go for?? Obviously there are the standard Lexus disks/pads, but I have come across others Pagdani (from Prolex) and Mintex. I think I will also bleed the brakes and was thinking of using DOT 5 instead of DOT 4, is this ok?? And lastly, How can I bleed the whole system? I have bled the brakes on other cars e.g Vectra, Honda etc or should I just hand it over to the Lexus guys???, as I have do have a gold discount card Any Advice/Tips would be greatly appreciated? Thanks
  17. Hi, When I bought the car, which is a MkII, it had been stood for 4 months and therefore I presume it could be rusted. The noise is from the near side rear wheel arch. From what has been said, noting the car has been stood for 4 months, it could be the fuel pump!!!, if the fuel pump is situated near the rear nearside of the car. Would anyone know whether the fuel pump is situated in the fuel tank on the nearside of the cara and if so, how much would it cost to replace?? Any ideas folks?? Many Thanks
  18. How many miles has the car done ? if the fuel filter is partially blocked it could make the pump noisey, but i'm guessing that's in the tank. There no loss of power, but theN again I've only had the car for two months and my previous car was a 2.0 litre Vectra (don't laugh). The car has done 96k. I have completed a part service (gearbox and engine oil and filter) but I'll take your advice and change the fuel filter. Would anyone know where the fuel filter is and how it can be changes (I hope its's not in the fuel tank)
  19. Thanks Chips, I don't think it's the brakes as the car is stationary and in park without the brake or rear brakes on. It's very confusing. Could it be the fuel pump abou to give up the ghost???
  20. Hi All, A couple of days ago I noticed strange noise which was eminating from the nearside rear of the car while parked in traffic. It sounded like a grinding noise as if I had rusty brakes. While I'm driving I can't hear it, but while in traffic it comes and goes. The car drives fine (I think) but I was wondering whether it could be the fuel pump. I was wondering whether any other GS 300 or any other Lexus owners have had the same problem? Any advice gratefully recieved. :)
  21. I forgot to mention that Just Tyres charged me £250 for a pair of 245/40/18s Avons.
  22. Hi I personally wouldn't go for Falkens. The disadvantage is that they have a very soft compound and won't last very long, however they do provide very good dry weather grip. I have recently fitted Avons (directionals) 245/40/18 on my GS Sport and have found them very grippy. However, I wish I had gone for 45s instead on 40s. Good Luck
  23. I bought my GS M2 Sport (00 Model) in October this year. I test drove two GSSEs and was amazed at their comfort and good handling for such a big car. I came across a GS Sport 99 model and absolutely feel in love with it. The handling and lack of roll was awe inspiring, although abit hard at times. Alas, I didn't buy the model as I was unsure of the mileage/service history. It took me over two months to find the one that I now own and so far I'm impressed with the handling, grip and steering. But I do find the brakes aren't as good as previous cars I've owned.
  24. if you were a gold member, you could have got those tyres for £87 each with this discount :) ← Useful to know. I bought the tyres in October two days after I bought the car and then became a member two weeks later.
  25. I have a GS Sport Mk II with 245/40/18. I have used 35 psi all round but found that it was too hard and found 32psi just right. Although the ride is still abit harsh, but ...it is a Sport so I'm not complaining. But be really careful in the snow. I reduced my presuures to 29psi to climb the hill where I live and it did the trick Just be sure to check the presures when the tyres are cold as it can add one two psi. I'be just chaned the rear tyres £250.00 for two Avon ZZ3 directionals from Just Tyres...bargain. I wished I had changed them to 45s rather than the 40s, but you live and learn Good luck
