  1. hi rod

what might you be looking at to replace the lexus :whistling:

    Hi Barrie

Not sure yet - but it's company car forces sale time. I really like the look of the new 407 coupe, but still considering options really. I like the new IS too, and I also like the new C70 convertible.

Just fancy a change really. As you know - the trouble with a Lexus is that it'll last forever - no real reason to change it. We have 4 kids now though - so we have a MPV to go out in as a family - I don't need a big car any more.

  2. Thanks guys

Rodders, just wondering given the mileage yours has done, anything major needed doing to it apart from the usual servicing intervals.

Reason I ask mine is coming upto 90k and plan on keeping it till about the 150k mark.

    Thanks Jon

    Hi John

The only major work it's needed in its entire life was a replacement steering rack after the seals went. Apart from that it's been perfect.

  3. Just about all modern cars have electronic speedos driven off a squarewave pulse from the gearbox. Toyota's standard colour for the pulse wire to the back of the speedo is purple/white (but I don't know for sure if this is the case on the IS) - if it's there scope it and see if you have a pulse. You might be able to pursuade someone in a dealership to tell you what colour the wire is, or even fault find it.

Another possibility (what I did) is to call up a Satnav company, such as VDO Dayton, and ask the tech support there - they keep lists of speedo pulse connections for their fitters

    hth

  4. Tony is not one for controversy I don't think the poll was set up to have a go at the mods or the rules rather the opposite. It is an opportunity for the members to show support for the mods and the way the club and this forum is run.

Anyway I don't have any problems with the level of moderation.

If it's that then I stand corrected and apologize mate.

  5. Lol - we've been here before too - have your vote by all means - what do you think it will achieve though mate?

As far as I can see, the only possible outcome will be to ***** the moderators again. We've currently got the best team of mods that the site has ever had, start slagging them off and they will quit.

Doesn't matter what the vote says, we won't change the rules, so what's the point?

  6. All I am saying like others is that you should have good reason to lock posts and not have the attitude of "if you dont like it go elsewhere", as we are all grown men here who dont need being treated like kids by being told "this is a private club" as the only answer.

No doubt you moderators will not admit you were wrong and will all stick together but if you carry on with that attitude you will lose members.

What's frustrating for the moderation team is when people ask "what about free speech then?" exactly like you did in the beginning of this thread. My response was merely to point out that you and others DO NOT have the right of free speech here. It's not a debate, it's a fact, and your only option if you don't like it is to stop reading / posting on the forum. I'm not trying to treat anybody like a child, just stating the facts.

  7. There is no such thing as free speech on this forum - it is privately owned and the mods can lock / delete / edit anything they like. If anyone is not happy with that then they can go elsewhere.

As you know, we have an area on the gold forums which is not moderated and you can say what you like there.

  8. It's not a totally straightforward question to answer. The stock speakers are 4inch Panasonic units with 2ohm impedance. mounted in a much larger acoustic shell.

So, if you asking becasue you want to replace a duff one - then the answer is 4inch (there are many on the second hand market - I even have some here). If you're asking with a view to upgrading, the doors can take 6inch units.

    HTH?

  9. I had all my speakers upgraded a while ago (GS Mk2) - the dealer reckoned with sub was perfectly fine and that there was little benefit in upgrading it.

i just feel the sub could do with a bit more bass from it, you can not really tell its on from the front if you get my drift.

Sure mate - each to their own.

I spent the money on upgrading the other speakres, which made a HUGE difference. The stock speakers are tiny and not very good at all. You can fit 6 inch speakers in the doors and a decent active crossover with decent tweeters helps too - the stock crossover is a simple capacitor

what did you go for when you upgraded Rodders ?

MB Quart component in the front (inc crossovers and tweeters) and Kicker 2-way in the back. You can make 6inch speakers fit front and back - have to make an MDF mount but it's quite easy.
