  1. I think 9.5 secs is about right, "feels" a little slower overall than my previous Vectra 2.0 SRi, but is actually quicker at the top end.

It's a peaky motor, so 0-60 is a little slow, but once it "gets up on the cam" it's pretty quick.

The engine suffers from a lack of grunt, but if you slip the clutch and work the gearbox you can make surprisingly rapid progress.

  2. Well, the result are in. I tried Shell Optimax for 3 tankfuls, then switched back to normal unleaded for a tank to see what the differences were.

The result: I'm about £8 worse off than I would have been.

No noticable increase in performance, no improvement in economy.

Keep your money in your pockets.

Disclaimer: other vehickes may well prefer Optimax, this was a highly unscientific experiment and does not represent the views of the site owners, members, or (strangely enough) the author. :D

  3. Yup, count me in. I might even wash my car for the event :)

IS-PW, if you don't want to leave your Lex at Liverpool Airport (a sensible move considering the location) you could leave it at my house and get a taxi, it's only 15 mins away. If you're lucky, I might even give you a lift ;)

    Unless you're going between 8 - 22, as I'm away myself

  4. wtf? Tesco wanted £907 too. Esure wanted £1000.

I think my SP60 counts against me more heavily than a normal speeding conviction. Even though I was stopped on a motorway (SP50 is speding on a motorway) I got an SP60 (undefined speeding offence) which probaly makes Underwriters think "what the hell did this guy do?"

  5. amen to that!

I know there's a device available for Honda's that let's you play with the VTEC settings. Is there anything like that for our VVTi? I have myself convinced that the VVTi is a con, and in fact it just makes a step in the power for the sake of it :D

What you wnat is the following motor:

    1G-GTE DOHC 4 85-90 1988* 210@6200 203@3800 75 75 8.5:1

It takes twin-turbos to reach that kind of power. None of the 1G series has made more than 168 without forced induction. I found a couple of Toyota engine websites, and the general consensus was 1G = don't bother.

    Anyone got a used 4.3 V8? :D
