You are all bad people I have heard that the quickest way to defrost a w/s is boiling water.

I'm maybe not explaining the problem properly. It's a fairly high milage car. When driving into low sun, it's hard to see properly, since the thousands of micro chips make it appear as if the screen has been sandblasted. Out of the sun there is almost perfect vision. That is why i doubt that the insurance will cover the cost of replacement. So what i'm really after is the cost of replacement outwith the insurance.

I am fully comp, and the screen will only cost £60 to replace. I just thought that it would have to be smashed before the insurance would kick in.

I'm not sure if it can be done on the insurance. It passed the mot recently. When driving into the low sun it's like the screen has been sandblasted. It makes it difficult to see properly. I'm with the RAC so i'll try their replacement centre and see what they say.

My LS400 has done 110k miles. The windscreen has the usual tiny wee chips that make driving into the sun a right pain. Now, I assume i can't get it replaced under insurance, so anyone know how much it will cost to get it replaced? Just rough prices to give me an idea before I phone around.

Well, i have to say that he did alot of work, and made me happy. 2 springs, 2 shocks, wheel alignment and labour. £480 quid. If i say it quickly, it don`t sound so much.

The manager made phone call after phone call to get me the best price. I`m not a Quick-Fit fan, but have to say this guy went above and beyond. He`ll probably get sacked soon :)

Front offside spring decided to go boing. ok, it broke. Had to drive quite a long distance before i could get it fixed. Went into Quick-Fit. The manager phoned around for ages but had to admit that the lexus (Edinburgh) was the only place to get them. Fair enough, £98 plus vat each. So i thought that having driven so long with that prob, i`d better get new shocks too. So lexus quoted £103 +vat per shock. The manager phoned around and got them for £53 each. I`ve always thought that dealers will rip you off, now i know. I have to say that I was very impressed with Quick-Fit.

not me. it`s a wee bit out of my league. :) -
The previous owner obviously didn`t care when washing. The result is the paintwork is full of swirls and scrapes. I`ve just started using carplax and carnaube. Is there anything else i can use to get rid of these or will they go away using the above?

Fair enough. If you are happy to drive illegaly, then go for it. Just don`t have an accident. I`d check your insurance policy. You may not be insured. Why not just pick up the tax disk before getting the car?

You may be happy with the 10 minute drive, but are you happy with the fact that the police now have the power to sieze and destroy any untaxed vehicle found on a public road. Why take the risk. Just leave it on the forecourt until you get the tax. There are many post offices open on a Saturday now.

With the ac on, the rpm goes up to 650. I`m going to give the throttle body a good clean, see if it helps. If not, then off to Edinburgh Lexus.

Having done some searching, i think that switching on the ac to boost the rpm might work temp until i can get it into the dealer.

The idle speed is around 400 rpm. Never having driven an automatic before i assumed this was normal.

Having only had the car for 2 weeks, today was the first time i`ve done a long distance high speed trip. I had the cruise control on at 80 mph and braked for a roundabout. Just before the car came to a halt, the engine stalled. It restarted in neutral first time though. This happened 3 times in total, all in similar circumstances except the last time when the cruise control was off. Anyone any ideas? I must admit though that this is the first time i`ve had an engine stall and not noticed the change in noise. :)

Hi. Finally got the car of my dreams, the ls400. I registered with the forum and got my confirmation email today. Now, when i try to upgrade tp gold i keep getting the error message, username is invalid. I can log off and log back on to the forums with my user name no problem. Any ideas what i`m doing wrong?
