  1. Thanks for the help guys if anyone has any recommendations keep posting them,
  2. Can anyone on here recommend a good independant garage that I could take my Mk1 Gs300 to in the Birmingham or Midlands area? Its a minefield out there!!
  3. I will take the cd changer and amp, let me know how much you want for them if they work fine. Ian
  4. Where did you find a single DIN from I have been looking for one for a while.
  5. Need another CD boot changer mine works but keeps on coming up ERR error code so its time to swap for a working unit, straight swap sick of messing around with the old unit. If you have one out there obviously that works let me know. I need one ££ waiting but not paying silly money, let me know thanks.
  6. Hi I need to top up my mk1 GS300 ATF as its getting low I have heard of dexron 2 and 3 which is best to use? I noticed as started hearing little noise from power steering upon turning, first time I will have had to top this up and need to make sure I get the correct fluid any ideas?
  7. Hi I have a Mk1 GS300 Sport with the Gold badges and wanted to get the badges returned to their former glory. I have found that it costs quite a lot though especially to buy new from Lexus dealers and it might be a lot cheaper if there were a few people interested and to go to a professional. So... Is anyone interested in getting their original Lexus badges or any other detail re-covered in gold? just let me know and if I can get a few together we could get a job lot done for a relatively cheap price. theres a lot of firms here in the Midlands who already plate for the automotive industry etc. just leave a message expressing your interest or PM, me. Others must have been looking before and the cheapo plastic badges on ebay etc just dont cut it on a luxury car. Let me know, TC
  8. TC is definately on my list to get, though with christmas I dont have the wonga at the moment to invest in it. I came off a roundabout yesturday near a petrol station and accelerated a second early, lest say I am glad the road was two lanes wide in my direction, all was ok but drifting sideways steering from the rear when you dont want to was not my idea of a quiet drive home. I have had that problem quite a bit in the past with my 300zx and you have to treat it smoothly but I didnt expect the lexus to be quite as bad. I drive really really carefully now in this weather! The exhibit did get a few college kids waiting as the bus stop cheering from the side of the road! If only they knew it was not on purpose, I felt like a real arse, you can get caught out so easily if you are not careful. I know what I will be saving my pennies for now!
  9. Go for a PRINZ system I have looked at many systems and the difference is quite vast in some cases. To get one done properly you will be looking at around the £2000 mark. You get what you pay for. I have seen the PRINZ fitted to brand new X5's landcruisers Audi A8's Mercs and systems can be fitted which conceal the filler point so nobody knows your on gas and the bodywork is mint. Also I found that there are suprisingly a lot of other things to consider when purchasing, like making sure you dont get a nasty extra filler point cut out of the side of your new car! If you want more info PM me.
  10. Hi my original gold badges on my Mk1 GS300 Sport are looking a bit old now as i am sure many of you have found. Does anyone know where I can get them re-covered or get another gold set for sensible money, are they easy to take off, how is it done?
  11. Why not buy a some secondhand wheels with tyres to buy you some time??? Probably cheaper than the 2 tyres your after aswell Tyres are always a big thing that I take my time to think about, thats all between you the car and the road right! This time of year can be a slippy one too so if you dont get the alignment right or have safe tread and tyre pressures you can get caught out. Its coming up to christmas and everyone knows that right! but saving a few quid here helps at this time of year, but it could cost you big time if you dont take care. I know its a different car but I know of a few 300zx owners who have got caught out this time of year on bends and roundabouts in their auto cars. My Z is now being sold but I have been so conscious to look after my gs300 I am saving up for TC. All I can say is I know its a 10 year old car now but thats money well spent to me as it took me long enough to find a mk1 sport in the colour I wanted with all the history and low mileage that I want so I try to look after it. I have had a nasty experience in the past when I was younger racing and messing around on a quiet road in a storm and believe me once you lose it just one time and go through a fence someones garden and end up wedging the car between two massive boulders it shakes you up a bit but it teaches you a lesson! With these cars aswell it seems like a lot of insurance companies are happy to write them off with little damage coz the parts are so expensive from Lexus. Sorry to go on but ifthis just helps one member. Dont forget safety first this time of year and make sure you enjoy christmas! :)
  12. Hi I have searched the gs300 thread and have not found much information on mk1 gs300 MOT issues/ problems. I am posting as I myself will be sending off my mk1 sport off for its mot soon and wonder if owners have come across mot testers tryig it on as a way of trying you to stump up some more cash. I trust my local garage to a degree, thay have always looked after my other cars but other forum members may not be in that position and I thought a gs300 post on this issue may highlight some common things to look out for or "tricks of the trade" that garages do to grab our cash un-necessarily! All I could think of is break wear /vibration or trying to fail you on tyre wear when tyres are not actually illegal yet. there may be uneven ware on many GS300's and its something to look out for but has anyone else had any difficult experiences come MOT time? Let us know. :)
  13. I had that problem at first when I ordered a new master key for my 96 gs300 sport. I was sat in the dealers car park turning a key with no luck. Basically I was told that the master only opens boot and glove box and was not programmed, a little breakdown in communication between us. I wanted a key that I could drive my car with, he he! Anyway a couple of days later they arranged to pick up the car I think they got someone else in from another firm to do some tinkering and everyting works now. I can use any key just fine. If the fobs are working then I think its just a matter of programming the chip in the key to work. dont know how they did it but it can be done and lexus should easily be able to sort it out. If they say they cant then ask them to speak to the guys at Lexus Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham area, they sorted it for me perfectly, very pleased with the service.
  14. Hi guys I dont know if this helps but I bought my Lex gs300 Sport mk1 1997 plate this year with just a grey third key and could not even unlock boot or glove box when dash button was depressed, anyway I went to Lexus Birmingham who charged me around £150 for a new master key as I pressed the button lock just to right of footwell while I was messing with car. I also got for around 100 a new transponder, I did not have anything else when I bought the car apart from one transponder and grey key they took details from the chassis number, engine number and registration reprogrammed key and alarm so now I have a new master key and transponder and my spare key and transponder that all work. lexus should be able to do everything for you for just over a couple of hundred. If you have any more qs just PM me.
  15. Hi I know that the UK cars dont have traction control unlike the USA ones. I ask the question though! Does the UK car have the fixings to install the traction control? I have seen ECU's for the traction control system for sale in the US, could I just install this into the apropriate vacant slot on a UK car? My guess is most likely no, otherwise I am thinking about getting Racelogic TC when I have saved a few pennies up hopefully before we get all the rain and snow soon. Has anyone got any experience of TC on a mk1 gs300 sport and could offer some advice! Its the main family car now as I am getting rid of the 300zx not practical in bad weather and nor is the GS300 as I have found out and I will worry once the snow comes, I will stick with it though as I have found them such good cars, everyone I know likes it, I opted for the Mk1 Sport over the Mk2 and I dont regret it for a second, just want to look after it as much as I can now though. I plan to keep it for quite a few years to come. Whats your vie :) w?
  16. HI I am just trying to play normal CD's not any copied ones, in reply to the previous post I will get the Changer out of the boot next week as I am off work then and post some pics. I will let you know how I get on, there must be quite a few people that will have this CD changer problem and if we find a soloution then we can post it for all future owners with problems to find out about. In the meantime if anyone has overcvome the CD changer braking down problem before then post details please, all the best and thanks for the replies!
  17. Hi I have been trying to find the answer to my problem for a while and to no avail, can anyone here point me in the right direction. Basically it looks like my CD Changer has packed up on my mk1 gs300 is searched through disks and then I hyst get ERR code. I would like to swap it for a newer model changer, are there any that I can swap mine for easily, pioneer make, do I need a new cable making up or is it as simple as just swapping over? As far as I can tell there original changers are very dated technology and not worth the hassle so I was thinking just replace with a newer one and im back in business. What are my options? some car audio places I call up just say, "we dont touch Lexus" Not verry helpful! So please help. Thanks,
  18. Hi does anyone know of any easily replaceable CD changers for the mk1 gs300 my 12cd changer is playing up and I would rather just buy a replacement and plug it in. Im not interested in having a lot of disks so even a 6 disk changer would be fine. Someone must have replaced one of the OEM ones before, let me know, thanks.
  19. Thanks Im hoping they can get me a master from the vin number etc now. The fuel flap is ok its just the boot mechanism. If anyone has had this problem and found a soloution before let me know. Im very happy with the 300 so far.
  20. Hi I have a problem and it seems like rather a big one right now. I just got my first Lexus GS300 Sport mk1 only problem is I only got the third key and a seperatelexus alarm fob so no master key. I did not realise this until now. Basically I have pushed in the lock next to the boot opener and fuel flap switch inside the car, which can only be re-opened by master key. Pressing the remote I have does nothing and the third key the only one I have wont do anything either. I dont have any code just the one key which does not work in the boot lock. I now can not open the boot at all and would obviously like to solve this problem. What are my options and what can I do to sort this out, right now I feel like I am completely done for as I only have this third grey key. Is there any way I could get a new master with just what I have and no special code I hear I am supposed to have!? HELP please.
  21. Nothing on the mileage & SH though. And the rims look as scabby as hell :duh: Hi I already checked that one out I didnt like the two tone and rims looked really rough as you spotted. I really like that purple blue colour and possibly a black one, trying to get a good unmolested example any more for sale that look good please post and let me know. I missed a beauty just 2 weeks ago near Birmingham.
  22. Hi I have been searching around for ages for a really good GS300 mk1 full service history etc with the brown leather everything working etc etc and I am finding it so hard, are there any specialist garages out there and it seems as if cars hardly turn up on the ofrum either. I have had a bad experience with a car in the past UK 300ZX which ended up costing the earth to put right so would rather buy from a forum member etc. Does anyone know of any good garages that specialise in selling them in Midlands. I dont mind travelling to find the right one either. IF you know of any good ones for sale please PM me or even call 07973319259, Ian. I find this forum great help I just need to get me a tidy Mk1 300 Sport and then I will be happy!
