  1. edit: just found this site.. look at the quote on the bottom left about toyota keys.. there is hope! http://www.lostcarkeys.co.uk/
  2. how strange how i spotted this topic after coming on here to post about exactly the same thing. I have an aftermarket transponder key and not the remote keys.. after spending 150 quid on a new lexus key i found out that i cannot programme the keys transponders to my car... the central locking is fine.. just cannot start the car. I too have been stitched up with keys. stupid of Lexus not to be able to order extra keys even if we have to prove ownership.
  3. Hi Guys I am thinking of buying a new Lexus.. brand new in fact. However, I was thinking of the Lexus Finance. As many members here have probably used lexus finance before I was wondering if this is a good thing to do or not. Using Lexus finance calculator i managed to get some figures. if I stick 5K deposit on a IS220d (basic model) for a 2 year term it works out at £302 a month.. this is affordable. Question is 1. the original 5k deposit.. i presume that is lost after the 2 year term? 2. when the 2 year term ends and i decide to get a another new lexus and do an exchange will i have to place a deposit again? does anyone have any other good ideas on financing a new Lexus? many thanks!
  4. hi guys i used 247spares.co.uk and i had 3 replies in 10 mins. Cheapest was £400 plus VAT from a 37,000 mile 2001 model. will the 2001 box be ok in a 2000 pre-facelift model?
  5. Over the last few weeks i have noticed rough transmission changes and also juddering when reversing. I have been told the transmission is on its way out and to refurb it would cost £1400 Does anyone know where i can get a cheaper tranny or maybe a second hand one? thanks
  6. Hi Guys My car was a repossesion and an after market imobiliser was fitted. I dont have the original code and i only have 1 transponder key that fits the aftermarket imobiliser. So i have no option but to get an aftermarket alarm due new keys for the lex is just too much money. What is the best after market alarm system i can get with a budget of £350? I would like remote start with this. Does remote start affect your insurance at all? many thanks
  7. Hi Today was a nice day to take a drive. Whilst driving through a forest road I had the window down and could here the engine noise echoing off the trees and could hear the engine quite clearly. However, every time i blipped the throttle i could here a slight pinking noise. Only a couple of pinks every throttle blip. When i put my foot down more I could hear the pinks a bit more but not too noisey. Does anyone know the cause of this? and how can i fix this please? many thanks
  8. there are ways where you can pay a few quid without putting your NI at risk Also remember that when you pay NI your company must pay the same amount. Basically NI is paid twice by the company. If you paid £40 NI then the company has to also pay £40.. so they see £80 dont hold me on self employed though.
  9. I had the fluid changed.. they sucked all the fluid out instead of drained. The fluid was jet black I am gonna run this for a few months and then change it again so I can flush out the remaining old oil that was left in the torque converter. £40 they checked out the transmission and they reckon there is nothing wrong with it.. i was paranoid.
  10. update I replaced the air filter, cleaned MAF sensor and Throttle Body and I have not had a single engine light on since. So if anyone ever gets P1121 = Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor/Range Performance code then that could be cause of the problem.
  11. hi paul its the big aliminium piece sitting on top of the engine.. dont have any pics sorry. the rubber tube is attatched to it. Inside is the butterfly valve thingy
  12. Hi Paul Thanks for your reply Yes its very easy to clean. I bought some alchohol spray from maplins for the MAF and carb cleaner for the throttle body. removed the MAF sensor by unplugging the sensor on the intake, then unbolting it. You will see the sensor.. 2 wires inside the air tube.... spay it with the alcohol... clean up the rubber and edges and put a bit of engine oil on the rubber to get the seal. for the Throttle body i bought some carb cleaner from halfords, removed the air intake tube from the body and sprayed the inside throttle body... wipe away the excess fluid. Sparyed it about 4 times as I found the excess fluid flushed out the black gunk. Instantly the car feels more punchy and much better MPG. Would be good to get all GS300 owners to put £20 in their car and report how many miles they get and what conditions. :)
  13. Hi Since cleaning my MAF Sensor and Throttle Body i have noticed better MPG But i still do not think it is good enough. I put £20 in the car (23 litres) and got 90 miles. This was around town with lots of cold starts. I worked it out to be approx 17MPG Can other owners add to this thread what they are getting out of their GS?? I shall be testing motorway runs this weekend.. would be good to get some figures. many thanks
  14. Hi thanks for the reply Is this the stuff you mean?? http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Module...ol&doy=29m8 Also what would you recommend for cleaning the throttle body?? is there a spray i can use? cheers
  15. Hi Recently had an engine light on the car.. car went into limp mode. after taking it to lexus they diagnosed it with the P1121 = Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor/Range Performance. After looking about on the net I found the following P1121 = Throttle Position (TP) Sensor Inconsistent With MAF Sensor High Voltage I am wondering if the error is to do with the airflow and a dirty Maff Sensor and maybe a Dirty Throttle Body. The car is in deperate need of a service.... I have recently bought the car and the air filter is very dirty. I have ordered a new one but would the chances of the filter being dirty actually causing the engine light to throw the P1121 Code?
  16. electricals (wow is this still going LOL)
  17. thanks for the replies i got a better connection this time. I am wondering if the engine light is anything to do with the transmission playing up as its still not right. Seems each gear change from 1 to 2nd and 3rd the revs in between raise slightly in between gears. I guess I am going to see if any engine codes appear. Is there any kits you can buy to get the codes yourself?? Even though the engine light is not on will the car still spit any codes??
  18. Hi Yesterday my car displayed the engine light and the cars accelerator was disabled. After placing foot right to the floor i could move the car as it gave slight revs. I suppose this is a crawl home mode. After restarting the car it reset and was fine. However I then found the car was sluggish.. eratic transmission.. but still smooth. I decided this evening to reset the CPU after reading stuff here... I am going to attatch the batter lead in a mo. One thing i did notice was the Red Power lead was not attatched that tight as I could wiggle it off the battery. Also inside the terminal was a bit corroded. Could this be why i got an engine light?? and cause the tranmission to be confused?? car engine sounds well sweet.. so thats fine.... just periodic. cheers
  19. My calipers are clunky over bumps... when i apply the brakes going over bumps it doesnt clunk. I assume they are worn and need replacing. Does anyone know how much a new caliper is? Can i get blue print calipers? cheers richie
  20. Hi Chips.. thanks for the welcome The car has done over 90k.. would it not be that colour as it needs changing? Not sure what the interval is on the GS300 for changing the fluid. The levels are ok. The car itself runs smoothly... no sudden bangs or jerks
  21. Hi I recently purchased a GS300 (2000 model) and is a great car. Problem is I am not sure if the transmission is not working correctly. I will try and explain as best i can. When driving around a big roundabout at about 10 mph or less when i apply the power gently the car hesitates.. the revs slightly raise then the car drop into gear. Similar thing happens in traffic or downhill at 10 mph.. when i apply the gas the transmission does not kick in immediatly.. the revs do but the transmission does not kick in.. sometimes it will *****. Also when the car changes into 2nd and 3rd the rev slightly raise.. although the gear change is smooth. I was wondering if the slight raising of the revs gave it a smooth transition. Am i paranoid?? the more i think about it the more i see myself trying to find a problem. Is this common on the GS?? Few questions 1. Also if i went to a dealer could they run a diagnoses on the car to see if there are any problems?? Do there computers pick up anything slightly wrong? 2. Changing the transmission fluid... i noticed mine was not really red... its sort of dirty red.. if any red at all. Would this help? How much does this cost to change roughly? 3. As i am a new owner for just over a week should i reset the cpu? Maybe my driving style is bad.. i drive like a old man because it is sooo smooth. 4. After resetting the cpu would i need radio codes?? Sorry for the many questions. cheers Richie B)
