  1. Hi all, Yep totally agree only replace when it starts to slip, slight clutch judder never hurt anyone, bad clutch judder will give you frothy blood!!!! Replace when it slips or if judders gets bad! Laters Lewie. :D
  2. Hi, had a thought regarding this, as it is early morning the brakes will be cold as there will of had chance to cool down overnightand will be cold. You will find in my experience that brakes will be less efficent when cold than when the brakes are hot as the heat improves the frictional properties of the brake pads thus improving the thermal braking efficency. Ask the Lexus dealer to do a rolling road brake test as if they were doing an MOT when the brakes are cold and see if it is to MOT standards as this should prove if the brakes are efficient enough to stop the vehicle in an emergency. If they are good the wheels will 'lock up' when the brakes are applied hard on the rolling road. Other than that it could be a set of 'less' frictional brake pads as the differences in frictional material differs from car manufacture to car manufacture. I know that when I worked for a well known french car maker they were for ever messing around with the brake pad material to improve squealing problems while keeping the braking efficency there. They eventually came to a compromise and changed brake pad manufacture. A new set of pads might improve the braking efficiency but without actually feeling the brakes it is hard to judge. Hope this helps a little. Regards the reformed Pumatron!!! :)
  3. Jeepers I never meant to upset anyone, i thought this was a forum which people could help each other and comment on subjects. I have given an opinion and have been put in the wrong, i did state it was not aimed at anyone!. I will always stick up for the main dealer as i worked for one for a long time and have seen the problems that the general public cause to dealers, it is a shame that ALL dealers get tarnished with the same brush. They are not all bad you know!!!! Ok, yes the pads are 70% worn and have at least 30% worn but they are checked and have to be given a life expectancy and minimise the disruption to a customer. When I serviced cars I would take into consideration would it last to the next service?, does it do more motorway/ town driving, all these factors cannot be overlooked as I can tell you for nothing the owner would be straight back on your case if the car only made 75% mileage to its next service before a part such as brake pads had worn out, I would get a written warning for that as it is a safety related item!!!!, did you know that the garage is liable for safety related items on a car even if it only came in for a bulb?, if it went up the road and crashed and was found to have worn out pads for example the garage would be liable even though they only fitted a 69p bulb, they are just covering themselves, So i applaud the technician who reported to me that my pads were 70% worn as HE/SHE has done ME a favour. As for the waterpump coolant was dripping off it so it was required, seal was shot. I apologys for confusing and frustrating anyone with my comments. Regards, a singled out new Lexus owner. Ok,ok,ok.....i have had my say, calmed down and got off my soap box!!!!!!!!!!! Please still love me LOC?
  4. Hi, thanks for reply, no drain tubes appear clear and there is no 'tide mark' to suggest that they have been blocked. Water is allowed to pass the seal on the glass and then drain via the tubes. I think where the water has been passng the seal it has found a pin hole in the paint on the glass surround which has caused the corrosion to appear, well I think so!!!!!! I think i will contact my local dealer and get them to take a look, it certainly is not pretty to look at with the roof back, and will eventually fail to seal correctly i would suspect. regards Lewie :)
  5. Hello, I would like to know if anyone with a is200 has experienced rust appearing on the inside of the sunroof glass, you can see it when the sunroof is opened (not tilted). The rust is focused in one corner of the glass support and is bubbled the paint coating off and has exposed severe rust to bare metal. When the roof is closed you cannot see it. Rust is also appearing in small patches all along the inner edge of glass support metal. There is no rust anywhere on the rest of the sunroof. A new glass would solve it. The glass has never been out and there has been no bodywork repairs done to the vehicles roof. Any ideas anyone? Should I approach Lexus? A five year old car should not have rust as bad as it is on a single component? Regards Lewie,

  7. Welcome to planet earth.......no they would not check the condition of the cambelt BUT they would probably inform you that it was due on age or mileage and if you know it has been replaced then you have no need to worry.......It really annoys me that some people do not think about things before typing, a little knowledge is such a dangerous thing, because of comments like that was one of the reasons why i left the motor trade to pastures new.........if people have no basic mechanical knowledge they should not comment or drive cars.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8. I second that! This is going to be Controversial but I don't go much on independant garges, they don't really have a clue in what they are doing as they hassle main dealers for info, I should know as I worked at a main dealer for 14 years before a career change and I was forever on the phone to independant garges sorting out the problems as they did not have a clue, that said specialists were good and were on par with the main dealer but a bit cheaper, although it is no frills servicing and repairs. :winky:
  9. Sorry, but got to disagree with your comments on the safety check!!!! I had a check done when i had the cambelt replaced, which was £170 by a main dealer, proper bargain!!! The safety report highlighted that the water pump was leaking, and the front pads were 70% worn. This is good for me as I only got the car a couple of weeks ago and it appears that the dealer i bought it from had missed these items. The dealer has stumped up the cash for lexus to do the work and refunded me the money for the cambelt without any arguments!!! They checked the rest of the car over for me and found everything else ok at the moment. I suppose the safety check is like a free service albeit without replacing any parts. Is it not better to know there is something wrong with the car than to drive around with potential faults that could cause some serious damage??? You have the choice to get the work done elsewhere as there is no obligation. I have found out the safety checks are done because it is part of the basic dealer standards that all lexus vehicles have a safety check regardless of the work done on the vehicle at the dealer. So come on not ALL dealers are rip of merchants............. :D
  10. Thanks for the advice. Although I have the clio I am far from being an idiot in it, firstly because I like my driving license, and secondly because it's my wife's pride and joy!!!!!!! I have had rear wheel drive cars before so I know what to expect in poor weather conditions, those are the down falls of a rear wheel drive car. :) Cheers!!!
  11. Hello, I am a new member of the Lexus owners club. I pick up my Is200 sport on saturday 21st October, and I am really looking forward to it. My current car is is a Renault clio 172 cup, quick yes, but practical for children, no! I wanted something unique, prestigest and family suitable, and the Is200 ticks all the boxes. It has taken me a while to find the right price and condition Is200, after a few bad experiences with some main lexus dealer trying to rip me off :tsktsk: , some independant garages not coming up trumphs with there recondtioning skills, (overspray on rubber trims and wheel silver sprayed alloy wheel, chips on paintwork touched in with the wrong colour paint etc etc...), I finally found one at a non lexus main dealer at a good price and a fair part exchange price, so it just goes to show that if you hunt hard enough you will find what you are looking for. I have found this site very useful for buying tips and for common problems, and intend on using it all the while I have my Is200...............cheers Newbie pumatron
