  1. Spot on Y2K! Cheaper on faster filters.co.uk than on Ebay (and more reliable). Cheers. Any recommendations for a good location for the Denso Sparks???
  2. Where's the best place to buy the K+N filter??
  3. By the way, does anyone know how to get the little gold emblem showing under my login name. Ive signed up to gold membership and been sent all the bumf. I've logged into the gold membership area but it still doesn't recognise me as a member! Any ideas??
  4. He changed the air filter although it looked fine to me, he said that when they dropped it on the floor it was full of stuff. He also changed the spark plugs which was my main concern- I've read on here of many ppl needing to change them after 20k miles and mine has 28k on the clock. I even had a heated debate with a Lexus "Technician" of 25 yrs (yes, at Hatfield) who insisted they didn't need checking because they are good for 60k miles. My mechanic confirmed that they were burnt out through some hard driving. I'm not convinced he put the right ones in though as he put in platinum tip standard parts. Everything I've ever read recommends Iridium. The part no. does come as platinum or iridium, but I have to be diplomatic as he is my cousin's boyfriend.
  5. Good news at last!! The car following the service is now doing 20mpg instead of 14mpg! Yay! The only thing is I have to use Shell VPower (tres expenseev!) to achieve this. I think George Best has come back in the form of a Lexus IS 200 SE! Also, not sure whether this is right or not but the car cruises happily at 100, but definitely struggles to get to 120. Cant get anywhere near the 130 expected speed. I might just buy the denso's myself and the K&N filter and get them fitted later on. It wont do the car any harm having platinum plugs will it? Still chasing Lex Hatifield for refund- useless $%*@~'#!!
  6. are these what come with the caar? No. They aren't fitted as standard. You have to buy them separately- I'm looking at sparkplugs.co.uk
  7. Wondering one of the following: 1) Dodgy gearbox or clutch 2) You've not got an IS200. It's an imported AS200 with the 180kmph limit still in place - that could explain why it stops at around the 110mph mark. Someone could have rebadged the relevant bits and you'd never really know. 3) Dodgy fuelpump What happens at 110 - do you feel like the power suddenly stops if you keep your foot on the pedal or does it gradually come in and out? It was doing 130- although struggling to get there- before the service. Now it gets to 110 and the car has no more revs and the engine is screaming to slow down. In the service he changed the brake pads- these aren't catching (I ckecked for that), the air filter, the oil and the spark plugs. The spark plugs he changed for NGK IFR6T11's platinum tip which is what toyota recommended to him. The only thing I can think it might be is the spark plugs??! Anyone know where I can pick up some Denso IK20's retail- as in over the counter?
  8. Nice one Chandru. The car went in for a service with my cousin's boyfriend whose a mechanic. He put it through a service and replaced the spark plugs and the air filter. He said the sparks were worn which explains a lot. The mpg has been excellent. Did 200-odd miles on half a tank!! HOWEVER, new problem- car gets to 110 and maxes out! He put NGK IFR6T11 platinum tip sparks in it and insists that these are the right plugs, but everything I've read says put iridium plugs in, not platinum ones. Is this likely to be the cause of the missing 20mph, or is it something else??
  9. I think that if the car looks the part- as in the cosmetics are fine- you'll be able to find a buyer regardless of the mileage. The only thing you need to consider is the dough you want for it. You have to adjust the price according to the mileage. In "my cousin Vinny" terms- you wanna da mucho grande dough, you sella soon. You wanna da lessa mucho dough you sella later. You can do things to compensate for the difference- a mate of mine repainted his old and knackered car in a rare (and desirable) colour and buyers came flocking to his door.
  10. Cheers Lads. I've written a letter addressed to the dealership manager asking for a full refund. See what happens. Found some useful info on the lexus.co.uk website about the customer charter and rights of complaint which is extremely useful!! Highly recommended.
  11. Wow. Nice one. Appreciate all the help. Darn. I could have done with something like this when I was pouring money into the Alfa! This is a great site- and Lexus owners are (or at least seem to be) great ppl! nice one. For interest only- I'm going to write to the Lexus Hatfield manager about the whole situation because I dont believe the front shocks even needed changing! The car was inspected by the AA (Dekra) a week and a bit before it went into the garage and there was no fault on the suspension!
  12. DUDE, i got 130 sunday morning.... and my car flys to a ton but i have to admit, i'm getting better mpg since i changed the air fliter Nice one Y2K.. Wanna swap? It's really a great car-honest! ;) If money was no object I would change the air filter, the spark plugs and the 02 sensor. However, money is an object and the dumb bunnies at Lexus Hatfield have made it even more of an issue, having robbed me of a load of dosh! REEALLLLYY don't like them there!! Wish I knew hot to change the air filter maself.
  13. Chandru, I haven't but I'm willing to give it a go. Where can I purchase these? How do I use them?
  14. Okaayy ....few things- 1. There is no manual available so that I can attempt to resolve things myself. I'm not going to risk doing things without some sort of proper guidance. 2. Thats why I took it to a Lexus garage who couldn't (because they didn't look) find fault with the car. 3. I dont have a K&N filter. I was just asking for advice about it. 4. I'm not the only one reporting problems with mpg- quite a few have- if you read back through the post- which makes me wonder if this is symptomatic of IS200's in general. (I dont know as this is the first I've owned) 5. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I go from here? If there's no manual how can I work on the car myself? If the Lexus dealership's take money without resolving the problems who can I trust? By the way, thanks to all those who have contributed to this thread thus far. Your thoughts are very much appreciated.
  15. Believe me, I want to get on with the IS but I've just got the car and it's presenting me with problems. I've never owned a car that has done that before right from the start! What I deem to be "reliable" is when you dont have to spend loads of money to get the car up to spec. Maybe you have a different interpretation of the word. As for the poor girl being clogged up- the Lexus Hatfield garage apparently couldn't find anything wrong with the fuel consumption so I dont know whats going on. All I do know is I aint going there again! They changed the shock absorbers because of knocking on the steering, but it didnt resolve the problem. In fact the problem has increased because they weren't fitted properly! It's going back in on Tues. How's the performance with yours? I tried to get it past the ton and it struggles- yet its supposed to do 134?!
  16. Where is this? I looked on the dealer list within Lexus Owners Club and on the Lexus.co.uk website. Neither have any details about manager, etc. just standard contact details.
  17. Hi Guys First post and only had the car a week and already draining my account. But i took it down south and back and got 420 out of a full tank (55 quid). Mostly motorway but mine has only just been serviced. if i start getting what some of you guys are saying it will be the shortest partnership ever! I'm right with you on that one kmoore. I've only just got mine and it's proving even more of a headache than the Alfa- and Alfa's are notorious for guzzling gas, breaking down and generally misbehaving. In fact, the key reason I considered buying a Lexus was for it's renowned **cough** reliability! I never got a speeding fine with the Alfa either- even though I was flashed plenty of times. Flashed once in the Lex- instant fine!!!!???
  18. As I understand it there's two- one by the air filter which measures the air going in and one in the exhaust which measures the air going out, buty dont quote me on that cos I'm not a Lexus mechanic, although I have had to help them do their job on occasion!
  19. Thanks for the info. I shall explore.
  20. Does anyone know Lexus Hatfield's manager's details?
  21. I understand the pain Y2K.. as the car is with the Lexus garage at the moment and I stated two issues to resolve- 1. the fuel consumption- main concern! 2. knocking on steering- secondary concern. So, yesterday they replaced the front two shock absorbers costing £600! Then they wanted me to pick up the car- they hadn't even looked at the fuel consumption. After insisting that I was not going to pick it up until everything was done, I was then passed to a "technician" who tried to fob me off, and whom I had to educate about ECU reset!!! I wrote a list of things for them to check and they have done none of it. I'm sure they are keen to get their IS220d back, but then I'm paying £15 a day for the "courtesy" I always thought Lexus dealers were reliable- not so far though!
  22. Yeh, I noticed that you live in Kent from your profile. Its spooky- me and the gf were thinking of moving to Ashford. Following the top ten places to live in Britain on TV last yr, we went on a 5 day tour around the various "golden spots" and the place we really liked was Ashford- just the right mix of quiet, but not too quiet, and a really pleasant feel. Just couldn't get work down there, so instead we moved to Grotford ("Watford"- if you dont live here!) We now want to move to Manchester, but haven't found work there yet.
  23. 08:00- an ungodly hour! What time are you there?
  24. Took the bull by the horns so to speak and booked it into Lexus Hatfield although I read somewhere that the courtesy car was only an additional £10, but they have said its £15 per day!! This sounds a bit much to me. What does anyone else think??
  25. Just spotted this. At STS (Wheels in Motion) in Watford. They are famous within the Lexus owners club forum anyway, but they also came highly recommended by the car inspector. Having read reviews, no-one has a bad thing to say about them. http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/
