  1. Temperature never gets above what I would consider to be normal. In fact, I don't even think it gets that high - I'd say about 1/4-1/3 of the way up. There's no leakage visible at the rad cap - could this still be the cause?
  2. Hi all, Well, after 5 years my boss has finally seen the light and has given me a company car. So the GS300 has to go :( Because I've had the company car on permanent loan for the last 2 or 3 months the GS has been sitting on the drive not being driven, which has resulted in a couple of issues. Firstly a flat battery - no problem there, just fit a new one - but more worrying is a fault that has developed in the cooling system. When I start it the water in the header tank bubbles ferociously as if it is overheating, although this is from a cold start. It then runs for maybe 5 or 10 minutes before cutting out, again, as if it has overheated. My neighbour took a brief look (he has a GS300 too) and speculated that it was pressurisation possibly caused by a blown head gasket. I don't think this is it as I had it to a mechanic about 500 miles ago when I sprung the rad and he categorically said the head gasket was fine. So, any ideas? Could it be as simple as a stuck thermostat (another theory that has been mooted)? Or could the LPG be involved? Or...? Thanks in advance.
  3. bump. So, no-one had any experience of these or know where I can get a RHD version here in the UK?
  4. Anyone know if these things are available in the UK for right-hand drive cars? I emailed this seller and he can do them (with a 20% surcharge), but our radios have different controls, don't they? Link to eBay listing Thanks in advance.
  5. I agree with TigerFish. You may lose a little in the transaction, but it's a gamble worth taking IMO.
  6. Yes, they are grey. Generally they are pretty good. Rear seats have a few small dog claw scratches and front passenger seat has a couple of small dents where they have been stacked. The worst one is the driver's seat that has a seam coming unstitched and age cracks. Overall, they are not brilliant, but would get you out of trouble if your seats are torn or badly stained. Pictures.
  7. I can't bring myself to just sling them out, but I REALLY need the space. I tried to raise some charity money a couple of months ago, but no-one seemed interested at the time. I would prefer a donation to UNICEF in exchange for these seats, but right now I just want rid. Any takers?
  8. Took my '93 GS300 for an MOT and failed on "rear suspension arm has excessive play in a pin/bush". Does that mean a new wishbone? Any ideas where I might source a cheap replacement? Thanks in advance.
  9. Thanks for all your replies, guys. I've actually managed to source some from eBay for £15.50 each plus carriage - now I just need to fit them...
  10. I have a set of grey leather seats and door cards available FREE OF CHARGE to the first person who agrees to make a reasonable donation to UNICEF. I recently advertised these seats for sale, but it seems I cannot sell unless I am a Gold member. I assume that it is supposed that the sale will benefit me and thus I should pay for the privilege. Truth is, I advertised here first in order to maybe help a fellow Lexus driver, and I don't really see why I should pay for that... So, please note: THESE SEATS ARE NOT FOR SALE HERE. They are offered as a swap for a reasonable donation to UNICEF. If you are interested drop me a line. If the figure you have in mind matches the figure I have in mind we have a deal, you have the seats and UNICEF gets the money. These seats are not perfect and all have a few cracks and scratches, also the driver's seat has a seam coming un-stitched, but they would get you out of trouble if you have torn or badly stained seats or if you want to trick up an Aristo with cloth seats.
  11. Medway Security sorted me out with a new key today, £9.95 + VAT. Thanks for the tip, Don!
  12. Thanks Don, have called them and will visit on Monday (they're only 5 minutes from where I work - result!).
  13. Yep, that's the one. I've had issues with them before over a watch battery, so it was no real surprise.
  14. And my radio has started making a noise (in addition to the noise it's supposed to make). I'm getting a whining interference that's linked to the revs of the engine, and I can hear a click every time the indicators flash and when using the brake pedal (brake light I guess). Happens with radio and CD player. Any ideas why this has started and how to cure it? I'm guessing there's a suppressor somewhere...? Seems like all I do is ask you guys questions - good job you're such a knowledgeable crowd. :) Thanks in advance.
  15. I only have one key for my car. I assumed it would be a main dealer part, but just on a whim with a few minutes to spare I called into Timpsons in Solihull today and asked about getting one cut. Guy looks at it and says "Lexus, right?" They're a bright lot in Solihull... :-) Anyhow, he said it would be a special order part, £10 each or £15 for two. I don't live in Solihull so a special order part is no good. Guy said no problem, any Timpsons will do it. I went to my local Timpsons on the way home and was told this was "utter crap, dealer part only". Anyone happen to know who's telling the truth here? Thanks in advance.
  16. OK, that seems reasonable. Thanks. So, best case scenario is they just cut/replaced the springs and wheels and I can put it back with not too much expense. Worst case, most expensive scenario is...?
  17. Hi all, A few months ago I bought a 1993 GS300. This car had not been looked after too well, but I was seduced by the badge and the LPG kit and bought it. It has a boot spoiler and mesh grille and it sits lower than other standard models I've seen, but I don't think they made Sport models that early, so I'm assuming it's a regular GS300 that's been tricked up to look like a Sport. Other giveaway signs it's been tricked up are the Momo wheels and no Sport stickers in the rear quarterlights. So my question is this. Is whatever they've done to lower the car dangerous? And is it reversible? If it's just a case of swapping out the large coil springs I'm sure I could find someone to take care of that for me. Or would they have needed to do something more permanent/expensive..? Thanks in advance.
  18. Might seem a funny question, but it seems all the ones around where I live don't have badges. Are they not meant to?
  19. I recently acquired a set of used seats to replace my worn and cracked ones, and the new seats came with the seatbelts still attached, including the pre-tensioners. Today I removed my driver's seat and pre-tensioner and proceeded to fit the replacement. I got the seat in OK, but when I offered up the pre-tensioner to the hole the old one came from it became obvious it was a different design to the original. My '93 had a yellow electrical connector which the new ('95) one did not, and they were also slightly different shapes. I had no choice but to remove the belts and tensioners from the seats and leave the originals in the car, replacing only the seats. I got everything back in place, with all the bolts securely tightened, but now my airbag warning light is flashing constantly. I'm presuming it is linked to the work I have done, but does anyone know what I could have done wrong, or how to cure it? Thanks in advance.
  20. I have a small problem with my wipers. If I have them on normal speed they don't cover the entire wipe area, but if I put them on full speed the extra momentum they gain allows them to travel the full way to the edge of the screen. Also, they will not 'park' correctly unless they are on full power (again, the added momentum then allows them to carry right down to the 'park' position). The Full/Half control doesn't do anything to help the parking either. Am I right in thinking there is a control box somewhere that looks after all this? I have a friend who's breaking a Mk 1 and he says I'm welcome to the controller, but neither of us know where it is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
