  1. I paid £55.81p for the infomation provided. In relation to distance travelled, unfortunately I only start the car up and drive no more than 2 miles to my destination. According to the Lexus sevice person, the CAT hardly gets warm, and with the recent rain /damp weather I can only assume that water has become logged in the CAT. The guy also advised me that I barely go above 3,300 rpm, and suggested I gun it through the gears more than I have done.(lol)
  2. I finally got around to taking my is200 to the Lexus dealer in Norwich. They located the Malfunction Engine Light problem to be code P0420. CAT BELOW EFFICIENCY. The garage recalibrated the tolerance band and re-set the system. The mechanic asked me whether I only complete short journeys in my car (answer being 'yes') He diagnosed the problem to be too many short runs, thus preventing the CAT from getting to an optimum working temperature. He was sure that this was the fault because my system contained water/dampness, and as such came up as a fault when the water was eventually moved. I note that my printout reads run time 267 secs @ 81 degrees. Does anyone think that their explanation makes sense?
  3. Yes it still remains on when all the others go out. Sorry to be a pain, but how do I find the code
  4. Whilst travelling home after a long journey, I became aware that the Engine Malfunction Indicator lamp had illuminated (the orange engine shaped one above the fuel gauge) I had a quick look under the bonnet but couldn't see anything wrong. I travelled the remaining 30 miles or so to my home address, but didn't notice anything wrong with the engine. The hand book states that you should take the car to a Lexus dealer... Anyone else suffered this problem?
  5. This may sound a silly question, but how easy is it to change the 3 belts at the front of the engine? All mine are beginning to look a little worn. Has anyone replaced them before, if so isit an easy task?
  6. Might sound a stupid question, but where do I locate the drive belt?
  7. When I start my is200 I can hear a distinctive noise which sounds like a sreeching sound. It goes away immediately and only occurs upon starting up. I have not been able to pin point the exact area the noise is being omitted from, but it sounds electrical. Any ideas?
  8. Whilst there have been other topics on the subject of Spark Plugs on this website , can anyone clarify whether Denso IK20's are the same as Denso SK20R11. The Denso SK20R11 are the ones sold by the Lexus main dealers. I have just contacted the main dealer in Norwich who quoted over £70 for a set of Denso SK20R11. I know that there is a stateside company who sell the IK20's for $49.50 on ebay. According to the dealer his are the 60,000 mile version, where as the stateside one's are not?
  9. My IS200's nearside front headlight is suffering from that all too familiar condensation problem. I have researched just about all the previous threads on this subject. Can anyone advise me whether there is a solution, other that replacing the unit, or taking it apart. I have tried placing a towel over the headlight and leaving the headlights switched on. Why is it that the N/S front suffers from this problem? A number of you recommend drilling a hole in the back of the unit, does this actually work. I have a spare N/S Headlight unit which I bought from a scrapyard, only problem is that one the fixing brackets is broken. Its the one which retains the grill in place. There are 2 black plastic screws which hold the grill in place. The outer one would have no fixing as this is the headlight bracket which is missing. What would you do?
  10. I made reference to it earlier, and I'll say it again 'If you don't ask, you don't get'. I support 'im24601' in this matter, regardless of how his letter to Lexus was put together. The majority of us who take the trouble to venture onto forums such as this are obviously interested in the outcome. I still reckon that Lexus GB are nervously looking over their shoulders at the activity on this particular thread. Whilst we are all entitled to our opinions, some comments may not have helped the cause. We all have views on this matter and it is forums such as this where some of us express opinions, be it supportive or negative. In my opinion those which have raised doubt may have given Lexus the answer they want? In other words support in relation to this issue is not 100%!
  11. The front tyre wear problem with the IS200 may be an historical issue, however a reply out of courtesy from Lexus, would in my opinion have been helpful. To ignore the subject matter in its entirety simply sends out the wrong message. I have only owned my IS200 since May 2007, however in that time I too have been forced to purchase new front tyres. I am one of many owners who have turned to Tony at WIM' in order to resolve the tyre wear issue. I also support fully the quest being made to obtain an answer regarding this subject. Giving up is all too easy, and who know's Lexus maybe hoping that this matter will die of death if left unchalleged. If you don't ask ,you don't get.........
  12. yes mine judders when breaking but not tested if its hotter tho will do tomorrow going to work > is it also the cause to my stearing pulling sharply to one side(towards left i think) when stopping I first realised that I had a problem whilst travelling to work one morning. I pressed the footbrake and felt a massive judder from the front nearside wheel. When I jacked the car up later that day I could hardly turn the F/N/S wheel. When I took the wheel off we found that the bottom piston was virtually seized in place. Managed to free it up with the use of some GT85 (WD40) mole grips and some hard work. I knew that the piston would seize again, so I went for the seal kit. Rather be safe than sorry, and have it come back and bite me in the a**e at some point!! :tsktsk:
  13. It may be worth looking at my post regarding front brakes, incidently new rubber boots for the calliper sliders come within the seal kit which I refer to. I cleaned my sliders up, put knew rubbers on either end and greased them up. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=48511
  14. Its just the seals and clips, and comes packaged for both sides. Does not include the pistons. I must admit I was abit surprised at the price bearing in mind there are a total of 10 replacement rubbers and 4 metal clips!
  15. There were no instructions, however I simply went by what a number of people had said. The hardest bit was bleeding the system at the end. At least I know what to do next time. 1. Nip the flexible brake fluid hose up with a pair of molegrips 2. Undo the 2 bolts to release the calliper 3. Undo the flexible brake hose bolt to the calliper, in order to take it off completely. 4. Remove the pistons, and old rubbers from the housing. (mole grips required to turn end of piston) 5. Clean up the old pistons, and piston housing in the calliper 6. Refit pistons, new seals and clips. Remove brake carrier sliders, clean and fit new rubbers (small one at one end in recess, and the other in larger rubber at the bolt end of the slider) 7. Loosley bolt calliper in place, loosen bleed valve 8. tighten bols 9. Bleed brakes. (2nd person required to pump brake pedal) then tighten off bleed valve. Have used the car a couple of times since completing the task, and she appears so much better, but then again one of the F/N/S pistons was virtually seized in.
  16. I was one of those 60 and as it happens, I'm having the same trouble with my brakes but I've left it with a mechanic friend so as the only answer I could give you would have been 'dunno', I figured I'd skip this one :P I have the taken front brakes apart and installed the new seal kit. One of the F/N/S pistons was just about seized in. When it came out I cleaned it up as it was slightly pitted on one side. The front brakes are now like new. I can certainly feel the difference in how free the car is since installing the new seals. It was worth the hassle of stripping both sides down. The seal kit was £69 inc' VAT.
  17. £60 + VAT from Lexus in Norwich. I didn't take offence about the initial non- response, it was the fact that some 60 people had viewed it which surprised me
  18. I am surprised that my post has gone unanswered, especially with the wealth of knowledge spoken of on this site. I simply wondered whether anyone had used the repair kit, and whether the task was reasonably straight forward?
  19. After a couple of months of putting up with what appears to be a sticky front brake piston problem, I have decided to purchase a Repair kit consisting of seals, etc. (A friend of mine thinks that it should resolve my problem). Has anybody performed this task, and is it a reasonably straight forward job?
  20. Please do... You have my number if there are any problems on the day. On 22/1/08 I had the work specified in Tony's data sheet carried ut by SCA of Norwich. I have to say that the handling has totally been transformed. It drive's so much better. Thanks to all who recommended Tony at WIM, but especially to the man himself!
  21. Does anyone have a photograph, or know of a website link showing a close up view of the Lexus IS200 brake caliper showing the pads in situ?
  22. Thanks again Tony. It was a local friend of mine who also owns an IS200 who questioned why the rears need altering. I'll let you know how I get on next week.
