  1. Hard luck mate, and yep the course is definitely the better option!

Were you done by a speed camera?

Well I have to wait and see if I can get on the course first but it is my preferred option, I'll have to wait and see. I was actually caught in weymouth just coming off of a roundabout on the Dorchester Road. I suspect they will have caught many people there because people speed up as they join the flow of traffic. Pain in the butt but I don't deny that I was speeding so fair enough, however I really do believe that literally every driver has broken the speed limit at some point!

I think the governement should have a policy in place where the fine and points represent the alleged crime, as opposed to a straight jump to £60 and 3 points. But hey it's my fault will it change the way i drive, no but it will change the way I drive on that one round about. Hope I get on the course though I'm genuinely interested to see what they go through with you.

thought is was impossible to break the speed limit on Dorchester Rd at this time of year :winky:

see they are cracking on with the by pass

That's the frustrating thing for the most part of my journey I'm at 20mph or below and yet they nobbled me on the round about! lol

  3. Hey guys, well I was just going about my daily commute on the twelth through weymouth and I got a speeding ticket apparently. Such was the heddy speed I reached that I had to sit down when reading the letter! 37MPH!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what is worse getting caught for speeding or getting caught doing such a rediculously low speed!! I feel a disgrace to the forum! Whilst I don't condone speeding as such and I don't travel over the limit usually, except for perhaps on the occasion where I'm on a well sighted road, I can't help but think if I were 1 or 2mph slower I probably wouldn't have got the ticket. What a swine I could maybe get 3 points and sixty quid fine for the sake of two miles an hour. However when I received the dredded letter there was also mention of a drivers awareness course which may be offered instead of the £60 fine and 3 points. So I have sent a note saying I would prefer that, naturally it's down to them but I'd be quite interested to see what they do. If I get on the course I shall let you know what it's all about.

Anyway I wanted to share this with you guys and I was wondering what other tickets people may have gotten for speeding and other such offence.

    :crybaby:

  4. Thanks for all your help guys, as I mentioned I'm taking my car in and having new break discs and pads, along with my service and cambelt so I'm gonna get them to have a little look while they are there. Hopefully it is just the breaks but it wouldn't really account for the crick happening during cornering without breaking. I still feel that it might be bushes or balljoint related.

I don't think it's anything in my glove box at all. So I will post back in a week or so once all the work is done and then we'll see if there is any change.

    Thanks

    Mark

  5. brake pads moving ?

    lower suspension ?

Suspension should be fine, out of you suggestions I am leaning towards the pads shifting, purely because the discs and pads are low now and due to be replaced very soon. I've bought the discs and pads and am having them replaced along with my 70K service and my cambelt being changed.

I hadn't thought about the pads shifting but now you mention it it makes sense, hopefully that will be the problem. I will report back once I have had the work done in a couple of weeks and let you know if this sorted the issue.

    Thanks :winky:

  6. Hello one and all I am asking on here first because you never know some other member may have experienced the exact same symptons.

Basically I have a 51 plate 66,000 mile example of an is200 SE, when I corner right with mid intensity, for example at a round about, I get crick sound coming from the passenger side front. I can also sometimes get this noise when I break heavily to a stop, what do you guys think it could be? I was wondering if it's the interior or if its something more like a suspension, bushes or ball joint issue. I know you can't diagnose it for me but I just wondered if you could give me any clues.

    Thanks in advance guys!

  7. Hey guys I am looking to change the cambelt and water pump if necessary, I just wanted to ask, I remember reading about this pump several times before and I recall there being some sort of pipe or o'ring needing to be replaced too. Can anyone help me out and remind me exactly what I need to buy as a kit?

    Thanks in advance

  8. Hi everyone it's just a quick question and will probably be answered quickly too. I have seen a number of gold badge Lexus cars around GS LS IS300 and I think even IS200. What are the specs of these cars and what does the gold badged IS200 offer over the sport or SE? Just wondered really.

    Thanks in advance guys! :whistling:

As far as I am aware there are no differences. The LS had them as standard and some people buy them to modify their cars appearance.

I have to say I don't necessarily like how they look just wondered what the differences might be. Thanks!

  9. FRONT DISCS AND PADS ARE ABOUT £85.00 IF YOU BUT THEM OFF eBay GT THE MINTEX ONES AS THESE LET OFF LITTLE DUST AND ARE A GREAT MAKE , TIMING BELT KIT IS £130 GENUINE ONE OFF eBay INCLUDES CAM BELT TENSIONER AND IDLER , ALSO CHANGE THE ALTERNATOR BELT AND POWER STREERING BELT... THE IS300 IS A VERY VERY JUICY CAR BUT IT IS A FAST FAST MOTOR

Hey mate, I don't mean to hijack the thread at all but where on eBay (an eBay number would be great) is this timing belt kit with idler and tensioner? I have found this one but it doesn't include the idler for £74.99. Does the one I've found look any good? I want to make sure I get original manufacturer parts. Also where can I get well priced official lexus power steering belt and alternator belt. Are there any other belts that need doing? Once again sorry for taking over here a little.

    Thanks in advance Greedy

  10. Hi guys,

Just thought you might like to hear about this I like many others on here had an invite frommylocal Lexus dealer to test drive the RX450H. I wanted to take my little family shopping anyway and so tied the event in with a trip to poole and I just thought I'd chare my opinions and thoughtswith my fellow IS200 owners. Well first of as always the show roomisathing ofbeauty with a IS250C, LS460 and RX 450H all on display and in pristine condition. In fact I think the reason us IS owners are so piccy about keeping our cars so clean is because of the effect these show rooms leave on us. The cars looked sensational, it made me wonder whatthe IS200 looked like in its show room years. Anyway I digress, I met the friendly sales man and he proceeded to show us the show model and predictably it was very very comfortable with great visibility and brilliant all round visibility.

Next came the good bit the actual test drive, the thing that is so errie to me is the silent start and initial silent running. You simply feel like your floating along, at first my partner loved the novelty of no sound but then felt a little car sick as a result. However I imagine knowing you're running on electric and saving all that fuel must be a good feeling especially with a 3.5 litre v6 engine. Any way I could go on and on but basically I liked it, put simply it's like driving around in your living room it's effortless and so refined. Personally though I don't think I'd buy one unless I had enough money to get it as a second alternative car. Driving around in something automatic and essentially that does all it can to distance you from the experience of driving is a bit uninspiring. Also a big negative for me was the dashboard, not the control layout or anything but the acre of agricultural looking plastic that sits between you and the wind screen. In a car like this it's just at odds with the rest of the high quality leather interior. I did however like very much the HUD display showing your speed and GPS directions, I know several other cars have this now but it is a great tool. Overall I'd say I was impressed infact veryimpressed but would I buy it, sadly no. I'm certain it will tops it's class but it just isn't the kind of car I would want, despte it's luxurious cabin and feel.

They aare also running a test day onthe is250c so I may have to rebook for that one, I have to say the cream leather cabin looked great in both the 250 and 460. A bugger to clean though I expect........ :winky:

  11. Thanks to everyone for their help, in the end replacing the keys did the trick, I was very releaved thatr it was nothing more wrong.

I'm gonna get the batteries changed in my other fobs now, however I have been invited tto the launch of the RX450H so I will take the fobs to the Poole dealer and see if they do it while I'm there. Top plan me thinks!

This forum is brilliant! Thanks especially to steviewevie.

  12. Ok mate will do do you know what batteries they are, how much they are and where I might get them? Sorry for all the questions but I want to sort this little problem out. Also when replacing the batteries is there any particular process involved i.e does the fob need reprogramming?

    Thanks again for your advice!

Not trying to bully you into it or anything, just that I felt a little silly after thinking it was a serious problem and then found out it was just a dead Battery

The battery's a CR1616, no reprogramming needed, just take the back cover off (remove the little screw) and swap the batteries. Finding it was a little tough, no normal shops had them when I tried. Best bet would be Maplin if you've got one local, or else just order it off the net.

Just bought one mate, got it from a local photography shop, so I'll replace it now and hopefully it'll help me out, don't worry stevewevie I didn't think you were bullying at all. I've thought for a while about changing the Battery. I'll let you guys know if it solves my problems.

    Thanks

  13. As for the batteries in my fob they haven't been changed in the two years I have had the car, however I have tried my other two keys and neither of those solved my problem. As such I'm lessinclined to believe it's a battery issue.

It is highly possible that it is wireless interference, but don't completely rule out the batteries. I had exactly the same problem a few years ago, and thought the same until it started working and not working intermittently outside my house. Tried the spare keys and they all had the same problem - all the red lights were flashing fine but would not reliably open or lock the car.

Discovered in the end that simply all the batteries were dead, changed it and they were all fine from then on. For the sake of a few quid might be worth changing the Battery (seeing as it hasn't been changed for a few years) to check as it could save you a lot of hassle.

Ok mate will do do you know what batteries they are, how much they are and where I might get them? Sorry for all the questions but I want to sort this little problem out. Also when replacing the batteries is there any particular process involved i.e does the fob need reprogramming?

  14. Ok so here's the issue I got back to my car after work today and when I went to unlock the car remotely nothing happend, likewise I couldn't open the boot. I used the key in the lock and if I turned the key and pulled the handle simultaneously I could open the door but the alarm would sound continually, also this only unlocked the drivers door. If I just turned the key in the door lock then the door would remained locked and the alarm would sound. Also if I unlocked the boot with the key the boot would open but once again you guessed it the alarm would sound.

In then end I opened the door as described above and drove away with the alarm stopping after a short period. Concerned I drove home had something to eat consulted a couple of threads on here along with my Lexus owners manual, at this point I thought it prudent to check the fuses for the central locking system. When I went out to the car (having left it unlocked) I removed the passenger side fuse cover and at this point I tried the buttons on my key fob, they worked! I couldn't believe it!

So what I'm asking is has anyone had this here before and if so was it just a glitch or an indication of something more going wrong?

    thanks in advance.

i have had it sometimes that mine would not lock. The remote works at certain frequences that also some electrical stuff works at. like if i take a new is250 to 1 of my mates house it kills his wireless internet. just keep a eye on it. or try replacing the battery in the key if it has not been changed for a while :)

Ok further information is the fact that this morning at home my fob worked perfectly, now I am parked in my usual position at a friend house this morning the key fob wouldn't operate at all once again. So this does seem to fall in line with the possible wireless interference suggestions that I have had from some of you. I park outside a block of flats so it is more than possible that there are a number of routers that could be causing me troubles. Tonight I shall try driving around the corner and using the fob there as aopposed to waiting so long and travelling so far before retesting the fob.

As for the batteries in my fob they haven't been changed in the two years I have had the car, however I have tried my other two keys and neither of those solved my problem. As such I'm lessinclined to believe it's a Battery issue.

Frankly I hope that's the cause as machanics and electronics = exspense! That said it's a damned annoying issue if it is gonna happen everyday.

Thanks everyone who has replied so far the possibility that it is just interference has at least put my mind toi rest slightly.

  16. I was told by someone at lexus on my last trip down there that there was defo gonna be a new high performance replacement to the SC...as for the LFA...I didnt ask them about it but there must be something in the pipeline. As for that pic...aint it an LFA?

I think that pick looks like a concept picture of the IS250C rather than an LFA which, is much more low and purposeful looking.

  17. It's possible with the current market climate that it will never happen............

Although didn't the LF-A set an unofficial Ring lap record - it's a shame if it doesn't get made as it sounds like a cracking car. I personally think they will make it, but they will wait till Toyota is more of a force in F1 before releasing it as they need to have some racing pedigree........

Hi guys, as far as I'm aware they are still pushing forward with it even in these climate, it was at the geneava show and two of them are taking part in the Nuburgring 24hr race coming up. The supra (I believe) and new NSX (this is confirmed) have both been canned. Well because car companies are scared, I think as Lexus are Toyota's high end brand they will be able to keep pushing this forward even if they drop to slightly lower production levels than assumed.

It should be a very interesting car I don't know of too many, hang any Japanese V10's out there, I just hope it does perform amongst it's piers, at that end of the market it will be up against the big Merc AMG's, close to some ferrari's and a similarly V10 engined Gallardo (if a bit dearer). Also not forgetting (although not V10) the Porsche GT cars and just like all of the exotics here it has to make itself justifyably better than the pain in the arse of every performance car of late, the GTR! We all know that ring speeds will be compared! Plus because this one is japnese this car will be compared all the more harshly with it. It's going to need to be special when it comes down to the tactility and in corner abilities of the car. I have to say all I have heard about really is that engine and it worries me a little because it will live or die by it's driveability and not it's straight line pace which, incidentally won't be range toping anyway judging by the power/torque available from the engine. Don't get me wrong it is a great and original concept I just hope and prey because, I like Lexus that it doesn't get lost in amongst the competition. It needs to be as good or better than the competition and do it all for a lower price! Come on Lexus!!!!! :winky:

  18. Certainly does seem our pursuit of perfection is an endless one......but overall I'm pleased with the condition of the car I have, on it's day it looks fantastic, nearly new. I can't wait to get out there and start cleaning and nursing the body back to health. Although I popped into Lexus Poole on Friday and I picked up my chip repair kit, all well and good but I couldn't help but salavate over the brand new IS250 in the show room it looked fantastic in black (althought to my taste maybe a little too big, wish lexus would make a smaller sedan sport), dare I say it almost perfect, not for long though as we all well know!

Thanbks for everyone's input thus far it's been interesting if harrowing to hear about fellow Lexus drivers and the trials they endure.

  19. Great thread! I always thought i was alone with the OCD of my Lex! Lol!

I've had mine since 2005 and i've had a few bad experiences.

Until 2007 it was just me who used the Lex. Looked after it lovingly, washed by hand weekly, polished, cleaned to an inch of its life. We had 2 cars and it wasn't financially beneficial so my Mrs sold her Fiesta Zetec S and we agreed she could use the Lex (yeah i know!!)

On the very first drive we went out together so she could get used to it, went to Lakeside. Cutting a long story short we parked in those drive in diagonal spaces. Parked nicely, within the lines, just ready to shift it into P and what does she do? Hits the gas instead of the brake!! Shock, disbelief, horror! I almost dragged her out the car (LOL!) not wanting to make a scene. I checked the car for damage and luckily there wasn't too much wrong, cracked plate, scuffed bumper but the other car was pushed out its space! Funny when you look back now but not at the time. All she could say is well its not that bad nothing is broken! She was sorry and shocked so i left the lecture til later! Lol!

Anyway now she is the main user and the car has many little scuffs here and there, none ever her fault though. Like the time in a multi storey car park coming out, mis-judged the turn and the front bumper ended up scuffed and cracked. I wasn't with her but knew where she went and saw it on her return and knew exactly how it happened. "It wasn't me" she said.

Think the worst one was what i noticed one day when i was cleaning it. Thousands of stone chips along the nearside from front wing to rear wing. Very small but noticeable when close up. Where the hell they come from i wondered? Then after racking my brains i got it! The grass had been cut next to where my car was parked. The lawnmower has spat out all the crap as it cut and it was against my car! Livid i was.

I still do get real angry when i see the marks i already know are on the car.

I know how all you guys feel and i think it is impossible to keep the car mint unless you wrap it up in bubble wrap and don't drive it. Either that or have plenty of money and time to keep it mint and keep calling on Chips Away! I'm currently trying to get some money together to give mine a facelift. (should last about 6 months)

Noone realises when you have a car that you cherish and try to look after. To most people i know a car is to get from A to B, yes they look after them but have no idea what swirl marks are or bother about stone chips or car park dents or scuffed rims or anything else.

Anyway i have waffled enough now sorry to bore you all. Interesting to read everyone elses stories and views.

Buddy I've been pretty worried to as my partner wants to learn to drive too and the other day I took her for her pre-lesson, lesson and luckily (in some respects) she has decided against learning to drive. I couldn't bear letting her out in the car not knowing where she was going or who she was hitting. lol!

  20. Think I can make a good showing here :D here we go

August 08 - I buy my stunning low mileage IS200 in black :) happy as a clam

August 08 - 3weeks after owning it I have find a scratch from rear quarter down to drivers front wing, yep 4panels done by a drunk girl and a cig lighter (I can't prove it so I have to pay)

Dec 08 - a bmw driver decides to reverse after just pulling into a junction and reverses straight into me cracking headlight mount and scuffing bumper

Feb 09 - clutch fails on way home and end up getting towed back, go to look at the car the next day and a Ford Transit van has crashed into my car scuffing bumper (again) and cracking headlight and destroying front wing (this is still ongoing and again I couldn't prove who did it as no details were left)

    Any advances lol?

Like you mate the second day I had my car I woke up to the sight ok a light key mark the length of the entire side of my car. The second day!!! I knew who did it also but had no evidence so it just made me incredibly angry. Luckily I buffed it out immediately, couldn't believe I'd be polishing my car on it's second day of owner ship!

It's good to see so many like minded individuals here. :winky:
