Hi all, I fired up the LS400 (1993), this morning and I heard what can only be described as a garden strimmer coming from under the bonnet, and the noise became stranger as I leant on the steering wheel! So, figuring that it might a lack of PS fluid I checked the level. The level seemed ok, but it was full of bubbles... I'll leave it until it stops raining and check again. Also, as it's raining quite heavily at the moment, I did notice a run of oil coming from underneath the engine compartment. Oh hum, time to trawl through the 'search' facility again... just wondering now why I sold my 'yota Surf... it never let me down in 5 years of service!!

Thanks for the info guys, but how do I know that the replacement MAF isn't in the same knackered state as my existing unit? Is it a case of I takes me gamble? Cheers, Damian

Even though it's a '93 model, do you think that as the engine warning light has appeared, one reason for the difficulty in starting could be a 'fail-safe' thing? Just a thought, Ta...

Righto, I have the following fault codes on my '93 LS400: Code 31 = Airflow metre sensor signal malfunction Code 24 = Intake temp sensor signal I'm finding the car difficult to start and sometimes urges and stalls. So I thought I'd phone my local parts dept. Good job I'd strapped myself to the chair, their prices were £700+ VAT for the MAF and £70+ VAT for the other!! Apart from scouring the scappies, can anyone recommend somewhere that may have a more reasonable pricing structure? Many thanks...

Hi all, When my father in law thrust the keys to the now my LS400 in my hand, he said that the problem it had for not starting was the MAF. However, when I try and start it, the starter motor 'werrs' for about 3 seconds then stops. My first thought was starter motor, my mechanic suggested the starter motor relay. My questions are, if I have a faulty starter motor relay, what would the symptoms be, and how would the MAF effect the starting? Ta... Damian

I bought some wipers for my Surf last week form Tesco, they're the aero ones at £4 each and seem to work ok, wonder if these would be ok for my new LS400..?

Hi everyone! I'm in a fortunate position in that my father in law has just given me his '93 LS400... for nowt! I've spent the first day in awe at the level of comfort and the ridiculous amount of power there is on tap. However, it does have it's 'little issues'. The first is that all of a sudden this afternoon the divers door decided not to open, either with the central locking, or with the key in the door, all the other doors operate ok. Once I've got in and pressed the 'door lock' button on the arm rest, it works fine, but still doesn't work from outside. It appears that the other 'lock' button by the latch maybe sticking... what's the best way to loosen, lubricate the locking mechanism? Ta... Damian
