  1. Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get genuine wiper blade rubber refills online?  I'm looking to get a set delivered as my local Lexus is shut due to the current Covid-19 situation so was wondering whether it was possible to get some online.

    I have a IS220D 06 which has a 20" and a 22" blade.

Does anyone know what the Lexus part number is?  Everywhere I search online, sites only seem to want to sell non-genuine rubber (if I'm lucky to find just rubber) or wiper arms!!

    Thanks

Without being rude but are you sure that the ones you have are genuine, the reason I say this is because there are so many aftermarket clips out there and these cars tend to 'get through them' that they may have been swapped out previously.

I wouldn't see this as rude; I'd see it as a perfectly reasonable question 😁

I did buy the car from a Lexus dealer so I just assumed these were the 'original' ones however in hindsight it is quite possible these are not the genuine ones.

In all honesty I don't really mind what they look like, but I'd just rather they all bve the same.  I recently had some work done and when I looked under the bonnet I can only believe some cack-handed gorilla had removed the clips as quite a few were missing and some of the remaining ones were snapped and missing the inner poppet.

I'm not sure how you can even damage them... all you need is to press the poppet in and remove the clip!!  I just wanted some spares to replace them an wanted them to match (bit a*al I know 🙄).

  3. Afternoon all,

I have a 06 IS220d and which I am having intermittent trouble starting.

A few weeks ago when I pressed the start button it kept turning over and over and over but not starting. A good strong crank so i'm sure the Battery is ok. The only way to describe it is on the older petrol vehicle when it'd let you turn the car over but the immobiliser prevents the ignition firing, that kind of thing. I got it started by pressing the button to stop it turning over and then trying again - fortunately it worked.

Today however was slightly different. I tried starting and whilst it turned over it was heavy and laboured crank. The dashboard flickered the same way as it does when the Battery is flat (off LED here and there flickers on and off etc). I stopped it and tried again. Exactly the same thing. On the third attempt it finally started but lumped around like a sack of sh*t at low revs ffor a few seconds and then went upto idle, around 900rpm.

I don't know whether this is related but I've also noticed the automatic headlights are behaving differently too. Until recently, when you stop the engine the lights used to go out immediately the door handle was pulled to get out. Now you have to get out and want 5 to 6 seconds before it finally realises and switches them off. I have been able to get out, lock the door and get a few seconds down the road and they haven't switched off.

I did plug in a obd interface in and queried it with the Torque App (for what it's worth) and there is no fault history and no pending faults, nothing.

Has anyone seen this behaviour before or know any other ways of diagnosing the issue?

    Thanks

  4. Should be no problems in that area. When the battery failed on my GS430 the RAC jumpstarted the car and tested the battery....which they said needed replacing but the car drove perfectly after it was started. My friendly Lexus dealer replaced it FOC as, unbeknown to myself, the battery had been fitted just before I purchased the car from them in May 2008 so was still under warranty.

    Great... :)

    Thanks for your help.

  5. Easy fix would be to call out RAC/AA or whoever provides your breakdown cover. They will have the knowhow and equipment to jump your car without any risk of damage to ECU etc.

I was only planning to jump it but am interested in how I might damage the ECU in case I need to do this sometime?

According to my local dealer and the RAC jumpstarting from some powerpacks and also from other vehicles can potentially cause damage. I can only assume that possibly you might get a power surge or something. Apparently RAC vehicles have something fitted to prevent this.

    Ok, i'll call them out...

I assume there will be no problems with the immobiliser locking out or doing anything silly will there, because its lost its power?

    Thanks

  6. Now i've done it...

I haven't driven my IS220d for a couple of weeks and now the doors won't open with the electronic key fob. I've noticed the red security light on the dash board isn't flashing anymore either so I'm guessing it's a flat Battery.

Since it's late I don't want to risk using the manual key incase the alarm has a Battery backup and goes off, but my question is will I have any problems jumping it?

Should the immobiliser still function when I have it connected to another vehicle whilst jump starting it?

Anyone had any issues with this?

    Thanks

  7. I picked up my stunning IS220 in December last year and until now have been thoroughly impressed. But now and again I get trouble starting it. What happens is the engine turns over but it fails to start. Basically it just keeps trying and trying. The Battery must be good as 99% of the time it starts within one/two cycles of the engine. When it doesn’t start it does keep trying and trying so there must be some life in the Battery or otherwise it wouldn’t be able to do that.

Has anyone had any experience of this or have any ideas?

One reason I am unimpressed is the customer service. I bought the car from the Bristol dealership and I have to confess I was very impressed with the service – I couldn’t fault it. My local dealership in Norwich is unfortunately the opposite. I took the car back for some warranty work when I received a letter from Lexus saying they had identified some problems with the power steering. Whilst I was there I told the service department about the alloys which were bubbling / oxidizing which I didn’t expect as the car was only an 06. They duly noted this and said they had put some on order. I followed them up a month later when they informed me they were waiting for a replacement set to come in and they would replace mine.

What? Sounds like they are recycling them which you could understand from some manufacturers but not from Lexus. My brother has a Toyota Land Cruiser with the same problem – the Toyota dealer replaced his by the time he picked it up from them. The worst problem is that I STILL haven’t heard (in four months) from the Norwich dealership as to when mine will be replaced.

I am looking for the complaints department but I suspect this will be conveniently buried somewhere in the literature!!

So. if anyone knows anything about the starting issue or where I can contact the complaints department (probabily won't help anyway) it would be appreciated.

I don't think i'll be nuying another one...
