  1. Already posted this here last year, but compare yourself: Here is a "useless RWD IS300". We were in a skiing resort in the Alps. Steep hill next to the skiing slopes (approx 1:5). Underground is worst you can have: snow compacted to ice. The van on the hill had chains, and all the others just parked their cars on the carpark at the top, including the 4WD Lexus RX and an X5. Only thing I did was put good wintertyres on the car. Then here is an Audi A8 Quattro. Clearly, without the right tyres. (Off course not, he has a 4WD )
  2. Class !! If you fit proper winter tyres, you can drive even when there is much more than an inch and a half. Plus, why do people believe this Santa Claus-story that 4WD works suddenly when it's snowing? If you have no winter tyres, they are as helpless as any other car. I live part time in Scandinavia, used to have an Impreza STI (now have an Evo IX) there. On summer tyres, even with the slightest bit of ice or snow, you're also all over the place with a 4WD. I once decided not to fit my winter tyres yet when we had half an inch of snow on a september day. Sure, it was going to melt anyway and "I had a 4WD car ! With locks on all diffs ! Wooheee !" ... VERY "woohee" when I nearly ploughed into another car at 20mph and the 30 year old RWD Volvos in wintertyres flew around my ears at 60mph... In winter, fit good winter tyres. Better in any weather, incl rain. And no, it's not a cost as you do not wear out your summer tyres meanwhile.
  3. No snow here in Southern France. +14°C here. Plenty of snow in Finland though. Back there next week.
  4. Still don't understand why people in the UK are so stubborn they won't fit wintertyres Instead they all think 4WD will be the miracle solution and then are gobsmacked when they cannot follow an old RWD Lexus in propers wintertyres on an Alpine road ... Half Finland drives around with old RWD bangers, most of them even don't have any electronic guardian angels. All works. Just need to fit the right tyres.
  5. So does the ECU reset affect potential engine hesitation or does it only reset the gearbox learnings?
  6. Cleaned the MAF. Problem seems to be reasonably cured now. Should I anyway reset the ECU ? Will this not mess with the navigation/radio/etc unit ?
  7. Really? I've seen a few ISF's! :) According to the DVLA there has been 838 C's registered, so yes quite rare (214 ISF's) Gosh, you're good. Where did you get these facts?
  8. Oil has been changed. But I cannot think this could explain a hesitant engine when accelerating hard from stationary. Can anyone give me a clue where the MAF sits?
  9. Would that also explain an increased fuel consumption?
  10. We got a 140000 mile GS430 here and, when you put your foot down from stationary revs, whether in gear or in neutral, the engine always hesitates for a second and then goes. This is obviously very annoying when getting away at cross-roads as the car always waits for a second before suddenly shooting off. If you accelerate gently from standstill, it all goes smoothly. It revs pretty normally until 6000rpm though. Any clues where to start me search?
  11. Good to know. So what is the warranty on the batteries in Europe?
  12. Found it earlier. Thanks :ooh-ducky:
  13. Thanks. It's exactly the "sliding pins" that do not slide at the moment. Any clues where your link is? Thanks !
  14. Congrats on your purchase ! Picked up one myself a year ago for the girlfriend. Drives brilliantly and indeed very cheap. :) Spare parts are not as cheap though :(
  15. Swapped the discs and pads on our GS430 and noticed these bolt do not move at all. Vaguely heard they should move freely. Is that correct? Issue is that meanwhile, the brakes shudder. :( Should I undo the whole shootingmatch, grease them and reassemble ?
  16. I tried the switch but no difference. Both lights are on :(
  17. Might all well be true, but consider 2 things: 1. How often can you go faster than 80mph in the UK? Even if the risk of getting caught is low, you always have someone driving in front of you on the motorway and the rest of the roads are fill of all kinds of obstacles too. 2. You can go by the numbers... but you cannot express sound and sensation on paper. Driven many 63 AMG's and it still is the engine to beat for brute performance in a saloon. Besides, if the author considers a 2008 car too, then he does not go new and in second hand, the price difference between both cars is much smaller. For £40K, I can even get a 2008 S63 AMG !
  18. Not seen them on the list, but good supplier. Thanks for the recommendation.
  19. There is a much simpler solution for all of this... - No problems with fidgety ride, - No need for a sport button - just press the accelerator and the torque will do the rest - No need for flaps or manual gear changes (although it has the flaps, again: TORQUE !) - Who needa a radio when the engine makes this sound? Conclusion, here is the best IS-F:
  20. Searched for a website where I can buy poly bushes for the anti-rollbars and shock absorbers for a Mk2 GS but can't find any :( Any recommendations?
  21. So it was the bushes of the anti-rollbars or the top mounts of the springs?
  22. Had the discs and pads changed on my Mk2 GS430, as well as the wheelbearings by a local garage (non Lexus). The car drives and brakes perfectly... but the VSC light is ON. What could cause this? Anything that needed resetting? The light does not come on when I start the engine, only when the car starts rolling.
