  1. Without sounding patronising would open and close the the sunroof both way i.e sliding and tilt to ENSURE its fully closed and not triggering the alarm. In the past there has been instances where the sunroof is very minutley open and this has triggered the alarm.

    Have a read here:

    http://www.lexusowne...showtopic=67052

    and here

    http://us.lexusowner...showtopic=53804

I was going to go out and try this on my car but its too cold

Well done Mark I think you may have solved it as the alarm started going off at random last night, so Instead of keeping the neighbours awake last night I just locked her with the door key,

I have just tried the sunroof, fully open/closed and tilit several times but it hasnt cleared the beeping. To cold to sit out there today to sort so will try again once temp comes above freezing.

Any idea where the actual sensors are fitted?

    Thanks for all the replies.

  2. She is going in for a service next week so I will ask the garage to check the battery terminals.

    Thanks for all your suggestions.

    Mike

Well she had her service with just Oil change Filter etc.

My garage (non Lexus) checked her over for any Battery connection problems and everything is 100% OK.

So not only are the beeps a mystery the completely dead Battery of some weeks back also remains a mystery and if there was a dodgy Battery it would certainly have gone down in the freezing conditions of the last week or so.

So if you have any other ideas as to what it might be it would be very helpful.

Have emailed Lexus direct to ask them.

  3. I have had my Ls400 fitted with L.P.G. which also came with flash lube, done at the same place as Parrot of doom,it does an important job.

Can you tell me what that job is as I thought it was the same as when cars switched over from Non Leaded Petrol which if you didnt put an additive in with the petrol it would burn your valves seats out eventualy.

These days all car engines come with harden valve seats so there is no reason to add any additives.

Using LPG is well documented doesnt have the same damaging constituents that petrol does and is far less damaging on engine wear.

  4. I am very soon going to be converting a LS430 to run on LPG i am getting conflicting info wether a Flashlube kit would be needed.

if you have LPG fitted do you have flash lube?

    Many Thanks

I have run on LPG for 16 years now in Mercs, Vovos, Jaguars, Vauxhall and finally Lexus LS200 98 and all without Flashlube and all without problems.

They are easy to fit when the conversion is done so wont add much to the installation.

    Good luck Mike

  5. Hi All, I was wondering what members think about clear indicators and other bits on a pristine ls400 ?

Not sure whether it would ruin it.

should I just keep it original ?

I'm not a lover of changing/modifying cars but without doubt the best I have ever seen is Andies LS 400 which was very tasteful, most of them look dreadful. It may well be that the Silver paint on that car went along way to help with the overall finished look of that car.

  6. Thank you 'LowriderUK'. Good detective work. Think I'll give a trip to Somerset a miss!!. Sellers attitude stinks and too many unanswered questions. Cheers.

If you had of bought it and paid him in tenners he would probobly have moaned and said he only accepts twenties.

I dont suppose he will ever make business man of the year.

You have made the correct call by not going there.

Happy hunting will keep my eyes open for you.

  7. On ebay at the moment. 1998 LS400 import with 50,000 kilometres on the clock for £995 !!. Appropriate number plate as well. What do you reckon - too good to be true?. Search 'pearlescent white ls400'.

Its very difficult to tell from the awful pictures but on those alone it dosent present itself well as a car having only done 30,000 miles.

Dosent appear to have comprehensive service history you would expect with such a low mliegae car.

As for the way he advertises his cars I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole.

He comes across as an arrogant, beligerent **** . He comes across like that before you have bought the car can you imagine what he would be like should you have any problems with the car afterwards?

    I wouldnt go near it.

Give it and him a very wide berth.

  8. That's terrible how could you sell your much loved LS400 to a Lexus Killer!!!!!!

Unfortunately,at the time I had no choice as I needed the cash to get another car straight away so I could get to work. The sellers starting price is what he gave me for it last year with no MOT,so went and got the Saab 93 2.0 SE Turbo for £430,which has proved to be very reliable (so far) with a ticket and a bit of tax.

May be looking for another LS in the next couple of weeks - wanna buy a Saab!!?.

    wanna buy a Saab!!?.

    What is one of those??

  9. Hi,my baby has appeared on ebay after I sold her back in November. You may recall that she failed the MOT on all four coil springs etc. The description states 'MOT and taxed until end February'. She is certainly taxed until then, but the MOT ran out last November. This of course may well be not very well described, she may have a new MOT on her,but surely you would advertise it as having a new MOT as this would be a major selling point. If anyone on here is going to bid on her, please check the MOT status first!!. I'm not allowed to post a link 'cos I'm not a 'gold member' on here. The item number is 220939980474.The title is '1995 LEXUS LS400 BLACK'.The seller is 'rickyc506' from Leigh-on-sea, Essex.

The stereo worked fine when I sold it,though the bloke did phone me shortly after to ask me what the code was. I told him it was written in the handbook, but can only assume there has been too many attempts to re-code and needs to be taken to a Lexus dealer to sort out.

As for the cigarette lighter burns on the dash - they certainly weren't there when I sold her.

Perhaps someone on here could e-mail the seller to clarify the MOT situation. I can't do it as he would recognise my user name.

Done that will post when I get reply.

  10. I think its

    1. Geography where you live more than anything else.

    2. Greed.

Lets face it most of the LS 400s on the road should they be damaged in any way will be written off by the insurance company so they arnt actualy insuring you for crash damage other than offer you a poultry amount which is no more than an insult to any owner.

I have never understood why when you have an accident that clearly isnt your fault does your insurance company not fight tooth and nail to get you the value that you insured it for in the firest place and a value that they originaly agreed with.

Good luck with the your future motoring.

Keep popping in to let us know how your getting on.

    Mike

  11. Well that day has come. My LS is now off the road, not because of no mot or tax but purely down to insurance price hikes.

I'm really quite upset more so than I have been with any other car, strange how you can get attached to a car.

I'm going to put her on auto trader this weekend as long as the weather lets me take some good pics. First refusal to anybody on here though. I will keep an eye on pm's. She won't fetch much but she has got a long mot and a few months tax so a good driver for someone.

I'll start saving for another soon.

One of them badass days. Roll on the revolution.

  12. A lorry has reversed under your bonnet and you haven't noticed!

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to see if it goes away? Just make sure you have the radio security code and master key to hand before doing so.

Had a look but couldnt find anything like a lorry under the bonnet, there was a shiny thing which had NASA printed on it and it made everything around it glow green so I threw it away and the green glow stopped but the car seems to go an awful lot faster. I could have sworn I saw stars on a trip the other day.

    Mike

  13. Is it the stereo system beeping?

I dont think so but will try and locate where the sound is coming from.

    Thanks Mike

Well we still have the beeping.

It seems not to be coming from the stereo but from deep within the dash.

It does seem to have changed to 3 beeps 3 times over.

I have checked sunroof and all the other suggestions but they are all ok.

    Still no warning lights showing.

I am at a loss as to explain it.

    Mike
