  1. Followed the first suggestion Normski. All sorted. Worked great. Ok, lost all saved phone numbers, destinations etc., but ok, at least nav working normally now. So, if Lee Riley still suffering with same problem, here's the answer! Many thanks, Andy
  2. Thanks Normski2. Will give it a go. S'pose it makes some sense in resetting ECU... Hmm.... Keep you informed... Andy
  3. Hi Lee. I have exactly the same problem. Thought possibly due to dodgy or old disk, but my disk for the UK is from 2010-11 so not too old. Changed disks for another one from Western to Central Europe (which also includes UK obviously) and no change, same problem. See you've had no answers. Will pick the brains of a couple of people I know. Keep in touch. Thanks, Andy
  4. Forgot to mention Ian, the windscreen was first changed a few months ago for a non Lexus one, but has now been changed again, due to awful quality of heater elements at bottom of windscreen giving up and shorting out (I think), to a Lexus one, which looked different and believe, obviously is the best and only choice. Thanks again.
  5. Thanks IanS200. Will check drain holes and pollen filter. Many thanks. Footwells seem dry at the moment. It's strange, the aircon only smells musty and windows steam up on occasion, not all the time.
  6. Hi to all, My RX350's air-con is beginning to smell musty and sometimes misting up the windows too. I wonder if 1. I should clean the system with Coma air con cleaner and 2. if there is a blockage somewhere, as I recently had a new windscreen fitted and noticed a fair amount of water at the base of the windscreen sloshing around, especially with the wet and cold weather we've been getting recently. A blockage somewhere? Both related? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Andy
  7. Recently noticed engine management & VSC lights coming on, clearing after several start-ups (believe this is "self-clearing"(?), during which slight engine fluctuations at idle. Today, worse, with noticeable engine lumpiness definitely at idle, clears after a while. Does anyone, off the top of their heads, heard or knows of this? Many thanks in advance, Andy
  8. Thanks for that Steve. Phoned a few garages who were happy to diagnose only engine ECU codes and nothing else. Found a great independent Lexus/Toyota garage, diagnosed and fixed! Cleared all other codes, main 2 were exhaust solenoid and I can't exactly remember the second... basically the compressor had power running to it constantly, found a wire that had corroded due to prior water ingress and apparently shoddy repair, re-wired, tested, all done and ok. Garage: UKTEKNICS in Maidenhead.
  9. Hello to all! Recently, on my 350 SE-L , on the dash by he rev counter, below the three green diodes for the suspension settings, a yellow " OFF" has started blinking. It began a few days ago with the VSC and engine management light on, then those disappeared followed by the "OFF" light. Could be anything I suppose, have visions of big bills etc Ride is normal though, but obviously won't go up and down. Last night I attempted, on level ground (?!), when after starting the engine, the light didnt come on, to raise and lower the car.. Heard a strange creaking, unhealthy sound, returned to normal and hasn't changed. On all the ime now. Will probably have to let closest Lexus have a look. Could anyone shed any further light on this or had previous similar issues. Many thanks in advance, Andy
  10. Hi to all. Advice please if poss. My 06 RX350 suffers from a judder I think in 3rd gear around 30-40 mph area. It only disappears either after coming off throttle or more throttle. Doesn't normally happen during brisk acceleration. Worried as heard of U.S transmission failures. Makes the whole car vibrate so quite concerned. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Andy
  11. Forgot to mention mine is a BRC system fitted by Tasso Autogas.
  12. I had my RX converted over a year and 20,000 miles ago and everything seems fine, including flash lube system, start-ups, switching over, running etc. Noticed a slight increase in exhaust fumes. Great in town, on the motorway, use it for work, no problems at all. Andy
  13. Hi Steve, Recently had my '56 RX350 serviced at main dealer as part of a two service package. Obviously, quite expensive. Would you, or anyone else out there, know the actual difference between a ''normal'' service and the ''Essential Care'' version? I do anything between 20-40k miles a year in the car, drive for a living so of course need the motor to be ok etc. Cheers
  14. Hi Steve, I'm also planning on an iPhone connection. Did some trawling through the sites, all seem to offer systems that plug into the rear of my cd autochanger and therefore disable it. I would prefer, obviously, for both to work if possible. Do you know of any systems out there that would suit me? Thanks, Andy
  15. There are 5 kits that I know of out there 1) Lexus 2) Dension 3) Vais 4) Grom 5) Dice Personally I think the Dice is the best as it it supports songs by album. Forget the lexus and Dennison which are playlist based and more expensive, Vais is probably 2nd and the grom is a cheap alternative with less Nav screen integration. Dead easy to fit yourself - search in the forum and you will find someone has posted a step by step guide (link below) 10 min job (2nd time around!!) allow 2hrs first time. Grom and Dice are sub £100. If you want video then Vais probably. Note none of these support audio over bluetooth to my knowledge. Fairly sure that the last 3 all support 3g on all mk2 RX radios but you may get slightly less functionality with older Nav units links: http://www.diceelectronics.com http://www.incaripod.com/ http://www.dal-tec.com/index.php http://www.carputer-shop.co.uk/usb-car-kits-c-7/usb-aux-ipod-mp3-adapter-toyota-lexus-p-47?zenid=4afe9e83dd1fcce1be3086c46b99e71c http://www.cheaptoyotaparts.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=44&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=71 http://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-second-generation/227901-vaistech-sli-installation-instructions-w-pics-for-04-07-rx.html http://www.vaistech.com/dev/home.php http://www.gromaudio.com/ Hi Steve, I'm also planning on an iPhone connection. 16. Hello to all. My RX 350 SE-L (56 plate) has just returned from it's early 50k service at Twickers Lexus (miles away, but hey.....) with continuing idle and brake issue. Been told that rear calipers have seized and part-seized due to corrosion, two months after my local 'boys' did the brakes and checked them all over, including taking off calipers and painting them gloss black. Is this a normal problems or issue with RX'x, also brakes squeak during driving occasionally and stop when I brake. When in Drive, engine speed during standstill is around the 500 rev mark. Seems very low to me. Is this normal or do I have a looming problem? Asked Twickers Lexus and they said everything was normal. Thanks in advance, Andy p.s. quick update. Local garage had car on rolling road to test brakes, this morning. Nothing found. All ok. How then do Lexus Twickenham do this, get away with it etc etc??? Was it just a visual check, made up, or what?? Any ideas? (apart from a niggling very obvious answer in the back of my brain which I would rather ignore... but should I??)
  17. Hi Andy, I was quoted £80+VAT for the emulator (my typo last time!). I just wanted to fid out a bit more about how the fuel system read the levels before getting it installed. I'll get it done in the next few weeks if I can be 100% convinced it will correct the error. Only recently, when I topped up petrol to check my petrol:gas usage the gauge didn't register the now full tank!!! Very frustrating. Someone else has posted that you can't start on gas - in the event of no petrol you can start using most systems. I'll keep you posted on the "upgrade". Macca (VO2) Hi Macca, My LPG 'garage', apparently, after having spoken to BRC, have told me that BRC suggest disconnecting battery for a couple of hours and this should 'clear' any fault codes (apparently these are the cause ??). Also, an emulator from, I forget which French manufacturer - could be Citroen, may sort it too. How did you get on with your emulator? Regards, Andy
  18. Hello to all! Looking to install front/rear parking sensors, although my RX does have the reversing camera (comes from parking in London streets!! My excuse anyway!!). Any ideas where to buy and install good quality sensors, as Lexus main dealer have quoted obviously silly money as well as Auto Audio in Park Royal (£700-ish). Many thanks in advance, Andy
  19. Hi. I have the 350 RX which I bought recently after much searching. As far as I'm concerned and know, the 350 is more economical, more powerful, quieter (more sound insulation) and a few other upgrades, modifications. Converted mine to run on LPG too. Excellent car so far, comfy, smooth, very quiet, civilised, loads of gadgets etc.... Hope this helps. Andy

Also waiting for reply from BRC on the subject via ''my garage''. Andy
  21. Hi Felix, Poss a silly question, how do you manage with petrol? Obviously concerned not to run out of petrol as also obviously won't start on LPG. Regards, Andy
  22. Hello folks. Bought a RX 350 recently and had it converted to LPG. Same issue with the petrol fuel gauge - doesn't show the true level. Started after I put in £30 quids worth of petrol after near empty and it showed a very nearly full tank. Been back to the garage that did the conversion, they are aware of this issue, had it on a few other cars including Lexus's. They also suggested an ''emultor'' unit and will get back to me. VO2 Mac, did the emultor gauge work? Keeo you posted. Regards, Andy
  23. Hi folks. I'm new to the forum. Recently bought a 2006 RX 350 SEL with 36k on the clock. It's being converted to LPG as I write. The garage here in London quoted me £1700 inc. flash lube system, filler to be fitted under rear bumper and will take only 1 day. For the two weeks I've had the car, economy in town has been anywhere between 15-20 mpg and the trip from sunny Manchester where I bought it - 30 mpg driven around 70-85 mph on the M/way. Fantastic car otherwise!
  24. I think it is the otherway arround in that the Cayenne is a Toureg blinged up As for competant maybe - reliable maybe no. My mate has had a lot of problems with his at 5yrs old 120k diesel With respect to the original question it all depends. 1) Yes the milage on the 400h is better but this is only really significant arround town - I get 24mpg on a mixed run from my 350 (Luton to London centre) but 28+ on a long run on motoway/dual carriageway at speed with no regard to economy. When I did the sums I reckoned that the petrol had already been largely discounted into the price as my 9mth old SEL was 6-9k cheaper than an equiv 400h. You get a tax break on the Road tax and London congestion with the 400h which makes it slightly cheaper if you are going to keep it a long time. My friend has an averrage of 28mpg on his 400h from mixed city/mw (50:50) but reckons it doesnt vary much and if anything city is better than long runs. 2) While the 400h suspension is stiffer and better than the normal 300/350 it is nowhere near as good as the air suspension on the sel 3) The 350h is faster and more responsive than the 400h which in turn is faster than the 300. If you use the the power on the 400h then the fuel consumption suffers badly 4) Sorry but I find CV gearboxes just strange and noiser than normal. (had a 400h for a weekend and reguarly driven/drive in a friends). 5) The 400h is not 4wd (engine drives the front and electric the rear - this makes a difference no matter what people say. You can feel the 400h trying to stem the front wheel tramp when you accelerate hard. To compensate Lexus have stiffened the 400h stearing (less feel and stiffer so a lose-lose in my book) 6) 400h's appear to have engine starter battery issues under certain scenarios. (My friend now keeps a jump start booster box in his boot). I was put off as my car often lies idle over witer months f0r 3-4wks at a time and the dealer suggested that I left it on charge. 7) The 350 will eat brake pads - it is heavy but they arent exactly expensive and nor are discs If economy is important and you either live in a town or do lots of short journeys then the 400h is probably the car for you otherwise I would say it simply comes down to personal preferance. Me - I went with a 6mth old 350 sel 18mths ago and have not regretted it at all. One of the best cars I have ever had. Goes up the 1:10 in switzerland better than anything I have owned/rented. With snow tyres on almost unstoppable in the white stuff and tows my 16mtr 900kg glider trailer like a dream. Quietish and lots of power when you need it up to and beyond uk speed limits. MPG on the 350 is somewat sensitive to petrol quality - I normally feed mine super unleaded from sainsbury (at a 2p premium) and reckon I get 5-10% better fuel consumption if on a run. The air suspension is wonderful but I pray they have ironed out the the problems that have plagued some of the older cars but it makes towing and long trips with full boots way easier. Either way both are great cars and doubt you would be disapointed with either. There are better 4x4 (x5, toureg, Disco) out there but they are way bigger and not as reliable and unless you are going to tow around very heavy things or are serious about off roading then the lexus is a better choice imho. If muddy tracks are your thing then both will work but the 350 is definately better. My friend cant tow the glider trailer over the grass airfield easily when wet while I have few problems. Having said that if you fit a set of Nokian All seasons then this would disappear. While the car can cope in very slippy winter conditions there really is no substitute for decent winter tyres and they only really cost the price of a spare set of rims. I used to run an xjs in the alps with winter tyres and never used chains and that was on a heavy rear wheel drive car with huge torque. Many thanks Steve. Also very interesting. I understand the RX is generally very reliable, although this forum is the place to find out about the gremlins that afflict all cars, regardless. air suspension being one of them. Was at a Lexus dealer last week, sitting in a 350sel that had just 'come in', dirty, mucky etc.. and played with the air suspension button, thought it slow to react, then remembered about previous posts which mentioned air susp. sensor issues, which are apparently quite easily remedied when they're dirty and caked in muck by simply cleaning them. ?. Economy figures for the 350 don't seem very far off diesel Touregs, which is good news. My only concern is - muddy tracks, winter conditions in Eastern Europe etc. Space for winter tyres could be an issue, so do you think all weather/season tyres would suffice? You're right about the size of Touregs etc. Took one out yesterday for a test drive. Wonderful car, responsive 3.0 diesel engine, refined, quite luxurious etc, but much bigger I thought than the RX. Owned a string of German large saloons and experienced their electrical problems well enough to make me think twice about the Toureg. Will report back once RX test drives completed and decision made, although still prefer, I think the RX 350 at this point.
  25. Its more than that, you will have to determine what use you have for the vehicle and how you intend to drive it. Then test drive according to your needs. Its great to have choice - its making the right one thats tricky! Between the two I don't think you can go wrong, as both are more than competent for most people and their daily uses and do exactly what they say on the tin. You will be satisifed with either :) I agree with you, so will test drive the cars with my driving styles, needs and requirements in mind. Have done a lot of thinking on the subject, but you have reinforced my thoughts on the matter. Will also test drive a VW Toerag just for comparison, although my heart and mind are pretty much set on the Lexus RX.
