  1. bought a special number plate from DVLC

    p170 lex  :whistling:

what do I do  now.............when i get the papers from them do i send the log book off then put the plate on ?

    paid the £80 fee etc........

    BTW

number is a boring one not as above

    Dont understand

The point of paying the £80 is that they do ALL the paperwork for you - you dont need to take it anywhere - get the docs through, put new plates on, thats it

  4. After all the "claims" that the induction kit increases MPG ................ I tried it yesterday, somewhat 1,000+ miles after installing it ............ and it has increased !

Before the K & N I was getting 325 miles on a full tank (both town and motorway)

Now I get 370 miles to a full tank !

So it does actually increase MPG .......................  :D

Can someone tell me what the theory is - why, would the engine use less fuel with a better air intake?

Quite fancy one of these.... :whistling:

  5. You can buy all the cable, terminations and ties from places like Maplin or RS at a fraction of the price.

On mine, the blue connect to various points on the chassis; the red connect to the induction, head, alternator and throttle body.

    Mike,

Why? What does all this do? I like the blue, it would go welll with my car

  6. I use Colour Magic on my black Mariah, brings it up a treat. Can't go wrong with Turtle Wax stuff. Is generally good stuff.

Hear, hear. There can be a lot of snootiness when it comes to polish makes, B) but to be honest, the colour magic stuff is really good.

I read somewhere that bodyshops hate it, cause of the silicone thats in it. Well Megiuars NXT is silicone based and I use that a lot too. And I dont intend crashing the car in the near future so i wont be near any bodyshops.

Go on try it, you know you want to. just pour it into an empty Autoglym bottle if it suits.

    B)

  7. The following findings are likely to be controversial, but controversy is good, cause it stimulates debate.

I have tried all the wax/polishes, within reasonable cost, including Mer, Zymol, Autoglym, Meguiars and they seem quite good.

With all my previous cars, I have always had a bottle of Turtle Wax Colour Magic to hand :tomato: . So I thought I would try it out.

Well, the shine was fantastic, it was dark and glossy and was the easiest wipe on/ wipe off polish I have. Even more controversial was that it was Halfords own make and not TurtleWax. I rotate its use with my Meguiars stuff. I will post some pics when I work out how to do so, so have Raybans at the ready.......

Colour Magic has always worked best on dark colours. Used it for years without any negatives that people keep on coming up with.

    Sorry :shutit:

  8. New bumper was finally fitted yesterday and looks the Mutt's  :D

Thing is, dare I drive on the open road again for fear of a repetition?

    Mmm,

I know how you feel. I got my new bumper (with h/lamp washers!!) fitted last week and it looked just out the showroom - dare I ever drive it again???

  9. Thanks for the tip, it still has 3 years to run so I will speak with them.

I had the same problem with my Mercedes E320 for all the time I owned it and in the end had a mate sort it once a year but he has done a runner to Spain.

My Lexus dealer is a 50 mile round trip and time is money for me so I'll see what they say. I was keen to know if this was like my Mercedes an ongoing problem or just a problem that the dealer could sort once?

Your Lexus Dealer will pick the car up for you, if it suits......

  10. Anyone know how to check the year of manufacturing for RX300. I've ordered used Harrier from Japan. The shop told me it is year 2000. Is there any website to check the manufacturin year? I got the chasis & engine no;

    chasis: MCU10-0001719

    engine: 1MZ'0526942

    TQ

You'll have to speak to Toyota - 17 digit chassis numbers have identifying years of make in them, but not the japanese shortened versions.

  11. I dont think any standard Lexus will entertain you in that way, they are not built for performance but as a luxuary car, smooth, quiet, reliable.

Out of all the relplies given, this is the statement that says it all, for me.

I bought the IS300 because of this.

If I wanted performance. I would buy a Civic TypeR - or economy, a diesel - or both, a Skoda Fabia vRS.

But I wanted something different - no-one in my county has a car like mine, and I have never, ever seen an IS300 with TTE Kit on the road.

LEXUS build luxury vehicles for a limited market.

BMW don't - they appeal to the mass market.

  12. Alright - I've just fitted this mod and it is one of the easiest and, Pound for Pound, probably the MOST EFFECTIVE!  :D

I'm not mechanical guru but it took me less than 10 minutes in total, from cutting the pipe to taping it up. A little awkward do reach, but you don't even need to remove any trim. If a FB like me can do it, a smaller framed individual will have no problem.

The results are immediately apparent - throttle lag is almost completely reduced, the response is instantly crisp and you have instant power at your boot. No increase in BHP with this mod but well worth a crack!  :D

There is some minor increase in vibration but I had this anyway from the Typhoon and the benefits outweigh the downside.  :whistling:

I have a bunch of hose left (they sell it by the foot) and will bring some precut pieces along to JAE for anyone who wants some. But since it's as cheap as chips you'll all be going down to the car spares store tomorrow anyway...... :winky:

I am not sure if it's the same for the IS200/Tezza but a quick look will confirm

    Materials needed:

length of 5/8" OD radiator hose

    Insulating tape or cable ties

    1) Cut a 11-12mm length of hose and trim it square to use as the spacer

    2) Make a slit length ways down the spacer

    3) Poke your head inside the footwell and locate the throttle cable attachment - there is a small spring located between two washers

    4) Snap the spacer around the spring

    5) Secure the spacer with either insulating tape or cable ties

    6) ENJOY  :D  :D  :D

HAve read the IS forum, and I think your use of a rubber hose seems far better than their hard plastic effort. The rubber hose will absorb somoe of that vibration - genius.

Going to be a complete ar** Mike - where did you get the radiator hose?? :duh:
