  1. Hi folks I confess to knowing little about cars and have owned a 2002 IS200 for almost 6 years and have found it very good indeed. I have been thinking whether or not to change it and have found a 2005 Mercedes CLK 240 Auto Convertible with 41k miles up going for £6.5k.
  2. Hello Garry. I am increasingly confused. Do you have any advice for me please. I would like to have the lights restored but have no mechanical knowledge.
  3. Hi folks I have a 2002 Lexus IS200 Auto and have booked it in to have some minor body repairs next week. The headlamps look a bit ratty so I asked for them to be polished when the other work is done and I was told they would try but it looked like the interior of the lamps is damaged. This puzzled me as I could see how the outside could be damaged/scuffed/ weathered in normal driving but I could not se how the interior could be affected. I was told that because of the high temperature of modern headlight bulbs they often cause the lens to crack and or fracture. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this problem? I presume if it is the interior of the lights the the only remedy would be replacement which I expect would be costly for new headlamps and fitting. All advice from persons out there in Lexus Land will be gratefully received
  4. Thank you for the advice Andy and thanks to everyone who responded to my questions. I have had my IS200 for over 5 years and am generally very pleased with it. Without doubt the best car I have owned in the last 40 years and I am very fond of it. It is my plan that in view of its age and low resale value (similar to myself) to keep it until it or I fall to pieces so have arranged for the wheels to be refurbed. My only objection to alloys is that if I damage one (which I have done) then the necessary repair is much more expensive than just changing a trim. It is also a longer process the former taking at least a day and the latter a few minutes. Anyway the Lexus wheels will be fixed later this month and has just be valeted so it will look as good as ever.
  5. Hi gang. I need some advice please. I have a 2002 Is200 and the alloys are getting a bit ratty so I would like to do something to help the appearance of the car. I would pefer not to go down the full refurb route if possible in view of high costs and the car being off the road for some days. I thought about adding wheel trims but can't seem to find any that will fit alloys. I was also thinking of getting rid of the alloys altogether and replacing them with steel wheels and some trims. Alloys are great until they are damaged and then I think they are just a pain. I have no mechanical skill or knowledge but the car has done about 68k so I expect to keep it until it drops or I do. Any thoughts or comments will be gratefully received
  6. Hi folks I have lost the wheel nut cover of the security nut on the front driver's side of my 2002 IS 200. There is no problem except the cosmetic aspect. Can anyone tell me what to do to replace the lost cover please?
  7. Hi folks I have an IS 200 and am in the process of changing the key batteries. I say in the process as I have changed 1 battery without much difficulty but on the second main key (with 3) the 3 buttons I have been able to open the key but not the battery carrier/cartridge inside. This seems to be because the two tiny screws holding it together are as tight as the proverbial. I have tried putting a drop of wd40 on the heads of both screws but so far no luck. Any suggestions? I am loathe to take it to my Lexus dealer in view of the stupid charges. :arrrggg-matey:
  8. I have located and checked the box which is empty exxcept for the object on the bottom left of the kind photo. I have checked the eBay link and it is for a set of covers etc for a Toyaota Auris. I put the details of nmy Lexus into the search section of the listing and it came back as not right for my car.
  9. Hedllo again. Glad I have given someone a chuckle. I will have to check the boot and see. I have never removed a wheel on this car so have no experience of these bolts. This is because I have heart disease now so am physically incapable of doing anything so strenuous. I am just concerned as I don't know what has happened and want to restore my car's appearance as soon as possible (and as cheaply..) Not being able to do things for myself can be a right pain. Any more advice or information will be welcomed.
  10. Hello all Firstly I will admit that my mechanical knowledge is so poor as to be seriously embarassing. Right! Now that's out of the way, I was washing the car yesterday (IS 200 Auto) when I noticed that the one of the chrome heaaded wheel bolts was missing from the front wheel on the driver's side. What seem to be there now is some sort of ferrous metal head"bolt" with a series of holes in it that I can rotate with my fingers. what is this please?
  11. Hi folks Am thinking about a steering wheel cover for my IS 200 (2002.) I hav fitted a "wood" trim kit to the interior so quite fancy a cover with the "wood"/ "leather" type to fit aorond the internal grips on the wheel at abou 10 to 2. Anyone have any thoughts, comments or recommendations please?
  12. Thanks a huge amount for all your help and advice. Could the kits ballasts etc be fitted by a mechanic or would I need an auto electrician? The latter are very expensive here and I freely admit that I have no practical skills. Thanks again.
  13. Thank you Jomo for a very comprehensive reply and I apologise for the lateness of my appreciation. Sadly I have more stupid qestions: Is the figure you mention for the HID £163 per set and what does a set consist of please? I have LED sidelights so presume that in order to "complete" the front end I will need HID dip and full beam and HID foglights. Is that the case? Also is there an HID for the reversing lights? Again apologies for late thanks and my ignorance.
  14. Thankis to all If I buy HID are there more than 1 type? From the owners manual for my 2002 IS 200 Auto it says I need 2 bulbs for high beam 60W type A and for low beam it varies but I do not understand how. I will also need a pair of foglight bulbs to complete matters and owners manual says these should be 51 W Type C. I need to know if these descriptions are current given the age of the car and what sort of low beam bulbs I need I would also like to know if HID bulbs are simply intercahneable with my existing ones and what make are the best for giving most light. Please. Again I apologise to all you fountains of knowledge for my ignorance
  15. Thank you very much Unfortunately my knowledge of such things as hid bulbs/ballasts is completely non existent. I would know neither if they were thrown at me
  16. Hi Gang, Some stupid questions about improving the heads on my 2002 Lexus IS200 auto. I have found that the headlights are not great and was wondering if replacing them with something like Ring Ultima Xenon would help, Does anyone have any experience or advice they could give me. Also will I need 2 sets of bulbs for high / low beam and what type/model of bulbs will i need? Sorry about my ignorance.
  17. Hello I am in need of a driver's side fog light for my 2002 IS 200 Automatic 4 door slaoon as existing one is corroded and knackered. Can anyone help me with suggestions please? Thank you
  18. Thank you very much Nik. I managed to find a Lexus replacement on eBay and bought it on Sunday night. Thanks again to everyone for help and guidance.
  19. Many thanks for all your help. Much appreciated.
  20. Hello again Just to clarirify you recommend changing reversing light bulbs to 45 w CREE and headlights to HID. I have xenon headlight bulbs at the moment - will HID be better than these? Also I fancy a nice white light for rear number plate. Any recommendations for this one please? Thank you
  21. Thank you all for your advice and guidance.
  22. Thank you very much. I wasn't so much thinking of heaadlights but replacing the tail lights, reversing lights and perhaps the indicators to improve the visibility and perhaps to update the car's appearance. The car is quite elderly but it has only done 59k so I paln to keep it until it (or I) falls to bits. I raelly am grateful for your advice. I thought perhaps tha absence of local suppliers indicated that the led types were of little use.
