  1. Hi Guy's This is an interesting topic, and a lot of folks miss understand the function of the AC in winter. The AC will cool the cabin temperature to the desired level during hot weather. However AC can be used all year round even in frigid conditions! It's not used to keep the temparture cool if it gets too hot, the cars automatic climate control will do that job on it's own. The function of the AC in winter time it to act as a kind of hudmidifer/ cleaner/ fresher/softer air inside the cabin as it works in conjuction with the heater. Without AC on in the winter the cabin tempature is very dry and uncomfortable. You all know what I mean, dry lips, tired eyes stuffy. Well the AC left on with the tempature set to warm or very warm will ensure the air quality is pleasant. So keep AC on and adjust the temparture to the level you want. To prevent misty windows make sure the temp control is NOT set to recirculate air !! This will fog up windows very quickly. remember at certain times windows will fog up but you should be able to clear this with setting the temp controls. I hope this helps Regards Skidspan B)
  2. Hi Enda, It does'nt sound right if you are unable to defog the windows after a short while. I think Tango touched on the possibility of wet damp items. I have seen this before on a number of cars and it's always wet damp carpets inside the cabin, the most likely cause is the air conditioning drain pipe kinked or dis lodged. The air condition unit drains a lot of water from under the passenger side of the dash through a plastic drain pipe down through the passenger footwell onto the ground. If this pipe is kinked, plugged or disloged the drain will overflow at times. The carpets normally scok it up underneath the passenger carpets. so get right at the back of the footwell carpet and try pull it back a little and with your hand you should feel wet or dampness. It should be bone dry. It's normally a simple job no tools required. Locate the drain pipe and examine hope this helps.
  3. Just read this interesting thread about alleged brake failure while panic braking while in cruise control mode. From what you describe I'm certain you did apply the clutch pedal instead of the brake pedal for an instance. I know this sounds unbelivable, but I can confirm I did exactly the same thing when I first got my Lexus IS 220D. I was tipping along at a good pace in cruise mode, both feet resting on the floor when approching a really slow moving vehicle. I paniced jumped on the brake pedal (I thought) it sank to the floor.....PANIC I quickly lifted my foot and down again I hit the solid brake pedal and avoided the rear ender. Immediatly I thought the brakes failed. I have looked at this over and over and tried simulating the condition again. I can confirm in a panic situation the movement of your right foot ( when not in the natural position on the accelerator pedal)can over react and hit the clutch pedal an inch beside the brake pedal. The pedal set up is quite compact in the Lexus. Now while in cruise I rest my foot over the accelerator as it's natural to move quickly from accellerator to the brake as your right foot movement is trained that way since you started driving, natural movement! I hope to have explained my my experience and shed some light on this topic. Skidspan
  4. This happened to me once. I was crawling around in the loft doing some jobs and when I went outside I noticed all the windows on my IS were wide open! Needless to say I was not impressed. Fortunately the car was going in for a service that week, so I got the dealer to disable this 'feature'. thanks for the reply dazed, I'm lovin this forum now, great feed back Cheers Skidspan

  6. Hi all, Well Im a recent owner of a 2007 year Lexus 220d. I have to say I'm loving it! But got a shock this week when I arrived back to my vehicle and to my horror ALL power windows were open fully ! This has to be a malfunction with the electric window circuit and or switch. Has anyone experianced this before ? Is it a known concern ? I'm nervous now to leave it anywhere in public. Any advice would be most welcomed. regards
  7. Hi there and hello to everyone, new to forum and this my first post. I hope to get some advice with my querie I just purchased a used Lexus IS 220 with 128000 km It runs very smoothly at all times when warm. The problem is first start up in morning, the engine stalls immediately then re starts and will be lumpy until you can feel the high idle kick in. Then it's works fine. The problem is the high idle does not kick in on first start. Any ideas where to start? I'll go at this myself. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks
