  1. Sold my RX400h yesterday to another LOC member yesterday :-( hope he enjoys it. I have bought a Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin to use for work but need a fun vehicle for the weekends / long journeys / holidays , i am thinking of buying a Mazda RX8 and am asking for other peoples thoughts / ideas.
  2. thanks for yoir comments. Prices seem to vary between 10 to 15k so guessing mine around 11k. towbar fitted when i purchased the car and only done about 60 miles with my small trailer so no concerns. Company car here now - 2002 shogun , not quite a lexus !!!!!!!! lexus now at valeters so its gotta go :-(
  3. I am considering selling my lexus if somebody could possibly tell me its value. It is a SEL model with 61000 miles on an 05 plate.Had 4 previous owners ( 2 garages had it as a demo then 2 private owners ) with full service history ( last done at 53500 miles. It has a towbar and is in good condition with only minor marks typical of cars of this age.It has a third party warranty til feb 2014.
  4. No drilling is required - they are held in with clips and double sided sticky tape .
  5. The fuel consumption figures however unreal are not produced by Lexus, they are carried out in a standard way by an outside body and the result published to satisfy the EU. No one should believe any 'official consumption figures' are real. The 'outside body' are a regulated independant organisation who test all new cars to provide official consumption figures under strict guidelines to provide 'real' figures. They must be real otherwise they could just 'pluck' a figure out of the air !!! These real figures are just very difficult to reach in normal everyday driving conditions. Like you once told me , opinions to be of any value at all , should be supported by facts NOT assertions .
  6. hi , i too run mine at 35psi - i get better mpg as less rolling resistance but i do drop them to 30psi in the snow for better grip,
  7. As for mpg - i find that i open the windows more at lower speeds and get better mpg because the car runs more on electric as it is not cutting in just to recharge the battery which is being drained by the air con. i tend to use the air con when on the motorway as it makes no difference , either way you are only talking about a difference of about 1 to 2 mpg so not a lot. I like the styling it adds , especially if you remove the roof rails if you don't use them, and as a smoker it stops any ash being sucked back into the car when 'flicking' out of the window. ps - yes i do occassionally fart or the dog does !
  8. they are made by HEKO ( TEAM HEKO) , www.heko.pl is stamped on them . Either google heko wind deflectors or search on ebay for lexus rx wind deflectors as there are a few sellers that have them listed . I choose them also for their subtle looks - some deflectors are big chunky items that look too big.Nice to see that there are some people that like them to !!!!!!!
  9. Had my rx400 for a couple of months now and have also found the reversing lights are poor.Rather than totally removing the bulb shields , i carefully cut the ends off with a thin cutting disc on a grinder. This allowed light to be shone directly rearwards , reflect light directly downwards behind the bumper and it has not left a visible hole around the bulb. i have found some led bulbs on ebay.com ( America ) that are direct replacements but it will cost to have them shipped over, however i have found some on ebay ( uk ) for £7.17 that may be suitable - they need to be canbus able to prevent errors being displayed on the dash. I will report back next weekend when i fit them.
  10. hi , you will need to do an ISC reset ( idle speed control ) to set the required load when the engine cuts in , reset the windows and sunroof ( slide it back then hold the switch to forward until it goes forward , up , down , back and finally fully forwards til the closed position ) hope this helps.
  11. I agree entirely , i was getting 22 mpg with my diesel landcruiser and am now averaging 32 mpg with my RX400h , and petrol is less than diesel , I even got 38 mpg on Sunday on an A road because it was a warm day and i was trying ! But , like you say , i did buy it for the luxury not the mpg .I did miss the wind deflectors off the landcruiser so i have fitted some to the lexus - it is "discussed" on another thread !!!! Also going to fit some mudflaps , bootliner , rear dog guard and some blanking covers for when i remove the roof rails ( can't see me ever using them )
  12. Had my 2005 RX400h for a couple of months now , i am finally pleased with it after a lot of issues with the preparation of the car from Quicks ( Evans Halshaw ) - advise buying from a lexus dealer , even though probably costs more. 2005 vehicles particulary are subject to a couple of recalls so check that these are done.A few owners report that the 12volt battery that powers the electrical system ( it does not crank start the engine ) go flat if parked for more than a few days.Mine had a new battery fitted so i had to reset the idle speed control ( engine kept cutting in too much reducing the mpg ) , sunroof and windows .I also had to have new brakes cables as the handbrake kept seizing on ( common fault on any rx apparently ) I had the wheels refurbished as they were flaking and rust bubbles appeared.Bear in mind lexus parts can be expensive so always phone at least 2 dealers for prices as dealers have quoted me different prices for parts - 1 quote of £720 for a parcel shelf and then another one of £375 ! from a different dealer , labour charges are always over £100 per hour. I doubt many drivers get 35 mpg as lexus quote but they are better on warmer days and in town or B roads as you can run more on electric as long as you have a very light right foot !!!!! Anyway , that's enough about the bad bits , now the good bits - It is pure luxury , quiet effortless driving in style . They have their own unique character that some find bland - it's a bit like marmite , you either love it or hate it . In my opinion i have the best of both worlds - economy if i am careful and speed if i step on the loud pedal.Whilst it may be a 4x4 , i don't suggest you go off-roading , it is basically a tall road based estate with low ground clearance and front wheel drive but electric power is sent to the rear wheels after wheelslip is detected.I previously had a landcruiser but wanted better road comfort rather than off road ability and that is what i now have and i love it. Hope this helps , nigel.
  13. hi, no i bought it from a well known car supermarket - never again !!!!!!!!!
  14. (1) If you pass wind so freqently that your car windows are required to be open then it is you who needs medical help. (2) Spurious assertions need justifcation. You offer no quantified reason why spending money on these bits of plastic will result in any meaningful saving or advantage. Until you do, your assertions are unproven and subject to challenge - seemingly mild challenge is too much for them. less air con = less fuel used ,simples . i have reported you for being a bully.
  15. my opinion is supported - read your handbook and the more things powered by electric require the engine to recharge the 12 volt battery which increases fuel consumption . If you do not pass wind i suggest you see your doctor , also ask him to sort out your attitude towards other people.
  16. Had my rx400 se-l for 6 weeks , love the car - pure luxury. A few issues with mine :- sticking handbrake cable (£105 just for the cable ), paint blistering on the alloys £300 , rain sensors currently not working ( hopefully not the sensor (£231.86) . The garage had already put new discs and pads all round , new 12 volt battery ( standard battery very small so don't leave the lights on or leave it parked for more than 10 days without running the engine to charge the battery ).Tyres are not cheap , been quoted £800 for the next 60000 mile service , lexus charge £100 - £120 per hour labour and parts very expensive . Also car is basically front wheel drive until traction is lost and only then is power ( rear electric motor only ) given to the rear wheels.MPG is lower in the cold weather as the engine runs more just to heat the cabin and warm the mechanics up to operating temp , expect only 25 - 28 mpg in winter and 30 -32 in summer.Having said all this i do not regret buying the car but justwish i had found out about these things first. Hope this helps and if you like the car then go spoil yourself - you only live once !!!!!!!
  17. Turns out it was the cable - thankyou to the members that suggested this . Also thankyou to lexus for charging £104.51 for 1 brake cable - nothing is ever cheap with lexus is it ?
  18. Will put some photos up when i get the car back from the garage - sorting out hanbrake , refurbing wheels and fixing rain sensors on wipers . It's so nice that existing members encourage new members to participate in these types of forums , everybody has a right to their opinions but try to be polite whilst you are voicing them .I am not trying to force anybody to fit anything to their car but i am trying to share my experiences . As for the the disruption in air flow i do not think it will make any difference as they are aerodynamically shaped and they eliminate buffeting when the window is ajar ( similar to the pop up deflector when the sunroof is opened ). Air conditioning reduces mpg as it makes the engine work harder - even the handbook suggests opening the window instead of turning the air con up . P.S EVERYBODY FARTS POSH OR NOT !!!!!
  19. Thanks for the help. The car is a 2005 so i will suggest possible cable problem to the garage . Lexus have supplied :- 2 x 46540-48020 1 x 46550-48020 1 x 46590-48020 I think i will phone a different branch of lexus and see what part numbers they give me.
  20. It helps remove odours - smoking and windy smells ! Also fresh air is nicer than air conditioning and cheaper. Also you can do all this without any rain entering the vehicle. Hope this helps.
  21. I fitted some cool wind deflectors onto my car last weekend. I got them off ebay ( item number 360434740587 ) and would highly recommend them . They are tinted perspex which match really well , they look like genuine parts at a fraction of the lexus prices - £35.48 ( didn't bother looking at lexus price as it would probably be hundreds ). They actually came from Slovakia , but don't let that put you off - they arrived within 10 days. They were really easy to fit - took about 30 minutes , just follow the instructions / diagrams and take your time.Hope somebody findsthis usefull , post your replies.
  22. i seem to be having trouble with the handbrake shoes dragging. The shoes have the part number LN513GG NBK which the garage tell me they got from the lexus garage , they say they are actually a toyota part but i think they are the wrong ones . Lexus part numbers have 5 digits - another 5 digits so i am a little confused. Can anybody shed some light on this matter ?
  23. i too had this recall , there ia a chance that this pulley can move along it's shaft . Mine was ok , but there has been vehicles that it has happened on , even so , there is no big panic . Also i had the inverter recall work done which involved re-greasing a circuit board and checking the solder on transistors of the intelligent power module ( so i was told by lexus !!! ). Hope this helps.
