  1. I want to get the front caliper slide pins and rubber boots changed as I am getting a creaking noise when I'm breaking. Disc's and pads are fine, and I got the slide pins greased up and the noise stopped. But it has now come back again - drivers side. Does anyone know where I can get the front slide pins from, other than Lexus main dealers. I had a look on ebay put could not find them. I also want to change the rubber boots at the same time. Thanks
  2. I have a fear that my IS my not have the full front fitting kit & anti squeal kit, as my front pads are moving in the calipers (there is a knocking sound from the caliper) and I get a scraping / grinding sound when I brake when the car has warmed up and driven for a longer time. Remembering back to when I had to have a couple of the wheel studs replaced it did not look like there where any pad support plates or any anti squeal shim or inner anti squeal shim's. Is the front fitting kit & anti squeal kit only available from Lexus?
  3. Can anyone recommend a Gearbox oil and Diff oil? I spoke to Lexus today to get prices and the gearbox oil they only sell as a 5ltr & works out to £52 + VAT but you only need approx 2ltr and has to be Type4. My local Lexus dealer could not provide a quote for the Diff Oil it was something they would need to look into. I've looked at the link sent by Lance but that is for a manual, mine is an auto. On Opie website they have said that Mobile ATF 3309 can be used where Type 4 has been recommended. Has anyone used this or have any experience of this? Diff Oil I was told by Lexus has to be 80w 90, any recommendations?
  4. Thanks for the advice everyone. The main issue has been trying to find a reliable garage to service the car and knowing what needs to be changed and when.
  5. Thanks for the tip. I will call the parts departement tomorrow. They have been very helpful whenever I've spoken to them. I've not changed any of the parts myself. I would not have a clue where to begin. I've had the car serviced at the same place that looks after my BMW, because of the quotes to service the Lexus from some of the other local garages. One quoted me less than the cost of the parts, and his price was supplied and fitted. Only issue of using my BMW specialist is that he is a BMW specialist, but he is trustworthy, knowledgable and reliable.
  6. I have a duplicate service book and it does not have any information for the IS200, thanks for info. I will definitely get transmission and diff oil done as I have no idea if these have been done or when they were done. Is this something I can get from Lexus? If not, how much will I need and what make should I get?
  7. I've just had a the spark plugs, air filter, oil & oil filter, pollen filter and brake fluid changed on my IS200. However I wanted to know how often does the gearbox oil and diff oil need to be changed on an IS200? What make should I use and how much will I need? Is there anything else that needs to be changed? The coolant did not need changing. Thanks
  8. Thanks Noby76, for the links the prices are better than my local dealer. The air filter and oil filter from my local parts shop were half the price of Lexus, but I'm going to buy the original parts from Lexusbrim. I have to be honest, I've not been using quality fuel and been persuaded by pump prices. However, once the car has been serviced I'm then going to have the Terraclean Service on the car, in their words this would "decarbonise the engine, restore mpg, reduce emissions and regain performance". I saw this on Wheeler Dealers and have not read any bad comments about this. Chris thanks for the advice re the fuel filter. I would have bought this and tried to get this replaced. I love the IS200, I've had a couple but never needed to worry about them as they've all been fully Lexus serviced by previous owners. This one I bought off my uncle has been a bit of pain. What I thought was a bargain, has not turned out to be not as much of a bargin. However I'm hoping once everything is done, there will be new life in the car and I can keep for the long term.
  9. Thanks for the reply. I have a feeling that I will be doing the full service as the garage that did the timing belt can't tell me if they serviced the car. I do have a question about the fuel filter, when I rang Lexus for a price he could not find it. He thought it might be inside the fuel tank? Would you recommend Lexus parts or other OEM manufacturers as there is a big difference in price in the air and oil filter.
  10. Hi, I've just discovered that my IS200 may not have been serviced since September 2008. I have my fingers crossed that it was serviced when the timing belt was changed 2011. I'm waiting for the garage to confirm. The car is not high mileage its a 2000 X reg Auto and only covered 71800 miles. It has only done 25000 miles from the service in 2008 until now. The obvious service things will be oil, oil filter, air filter, check pollen filter and spark plugs. If the spark plugs need changing what make should I use? Nippon Denso or NGK? I've got a duplicate service book and the information in there does not relate to the IS200. What other things should I get checked /changed? Someone mentioned diff oil? Coolant? Thanks (Apologies I realised I've posted this in the wrong area, I don't know how to delete this and move it to engines and transmission).
  11. Hi Andy, Do you have pic's? Could you please email me @ asharbutt786@hotmail.com and give me some more information, like make and tread on tyres and condition of alloys. Thanks Ash
  12. Hi, I'm after a set of 11 spoke Alloys in Anthracite Grey for an IS200. Can anyone help? Thanks
  13. Hi, Has anyone used parts from / by Solid Auto's? I need to replace the front track rod ends and front stabliser links on my IS and am looking around for quality reasonably priced parts. I did look at ADL Blueprint but they are almost the same price as main dealer and yes I know they come with a 3 year warranty for faulty manufacture unfortunately funds are tight. Advice greatly appreciated. Thanks
  14. Thanks. I've got the car booked in with Westfield as they are closer to where I live. I'll let you know how I get on and what they advise.
  15. Hi, I have a X reg IS200 which has only covered 68k. I have previously owned a few IS200's and highly rate these cars. However my current IS is causing me a few issues as it does not feel as sure footed as my previous IS's. The front shock absorbers and the lower ball joints were changed before I bought the car. However the front suspension on the driver side does clunk when it goes over a pot hole and creaks. I decided to get the car checked by Lexus, (which they did FOC). This is what they said Near side front track rod end has play Off side top ball joint has play Both front camber bolts allowing movement Caster control bushes perished Rear top wishbone bushes perished If I get the work done by Lexus, it would cost more than the car is worth. I want to get a second opinion but do not know of any good garages that I could go to in Essex / London. I want to get repaired what is essential and live with what can be seen as acceptable wear & tear or get advice on where to get the work done without it costing a bomb. Thanks Ash
  16. Hi, New to the forum so apologises if I have posted this incorrectly. I have an IS 200 and the front lower ball joints have got play in them. I am not able to change this myself as I do not have the tools or time. The car has also started to rev very high when started from cold (rev's are just over 1,500 rpm) and there is a lot of smoke coming out from the exhaust. I am looking for a reliable mechanic who understands these cars and will know what to do. I know these cars are pretty much bullet proof with little going wrong. However, I have owned BMW's before and been able to find a specialist who can service them and pint point a problem without a huge cost. I do not want to start my Lexus experience with huge bills. Your help gratefully appreciated. Ash
