  1. Hi All, Sorry all I bought them. I've been after a set of grey alloys for ages. I even posted a wanted thread. I couldn't miss this opportunity I'd been looking at a set of mazda alloys, but that would have involved using spiggot rings to get the same bore size and a spacer for just to make sure there would be enough clearance. So when I saw these I had to have them. Should get them Friday the only thing I need to do is find a matching tyre as 2 are the same and the remaining 3 are different.
  2. John, many thanks for your advice and the link for the spigot rings. The et 50 is that the maximum as I'm not sure what size spacer to use. I've seen on ebay 3mm & 5mm. If I understood this correctly the wheels I am looking at are 52.5 which you mentioned would bring them further inside the wheel well, by adding a 3mm spacer this would take the wheel out of the wheel well and bring the et to 49.5?
  3. I have seen a set of wheels and the size is 7jx17 5x114.3 et 52.5 and bore size 67.1. John mentioned above that due to the et the wheels will be slightly further inside the wheel wells which may cause clearance issues. Could I use spacers to resolve this? The bore size I believe is bigger what does this mean and what problems could this cause and how could I solve this? I am not expert on these things so any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks
  4. Nice wheels. Look forward to seeing pictures of them on the car.
  5. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MODIFIED-LEXUS-IS-200-SE-Navigator-V-reg-1999-2-0- petrol-/310656049562?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item48548b219a
  6. Thanks for the advice. Is there anything else I should check? The seller has said I can try them on the car.
  7. Hi, I'm completely confused by all of this. I am looking at some 17" alloys to replace my standard 5 spokes. The are 7jx17, 5x114.3, but have an et of 52.5. I don't know really know what the effect of this will be?. I just want to know if these will be to big and will they affect how the car handles? The standard 17" wheels depending on what you read ranges from 38-45 or 50. Also what else do I need to know? Some have mentioned the bore size and that the wheel nuts are different. What should I be looking out for and other questions I should be asking. Thanks
  8. Welcome to the forum it is really useful as I found out. IanS200 you need 4 Bush Dust Covers as there are 2 per side as I found out after I ordered the parts and went to get them fitted.
  9. I made a mistake and bought a set of Lexus CT200H alloys from a breaker who told me they would fit my IS200. I took his word for it as they are both Lexus and the same size as in 17". They didn't fit and eventually sold them on ebay for a loss.
  10. Thanks Andy & Chris for the advice and information. I also need to get my car to WIM, when the budget allows.
  11. Thanks for the reply Andy. Could you please tell me where you went to get this done as you don't mention the name of the garage. Do they have a website I can take a look at. I have a few more things I need to get looked at. Thanks
  12. Having visited the garages that said they had serviced the car and the one that said it had changed the timing belt, I do not feel confident in the work that they have done. I'd rather have someone who knows what they are doing look at the car. There is no way I'm going to attempt to change the belt. As mentioned earlier if I can bring the car down to you, I'd rather do that. Thanks
  13. Hi, I am after a set of original carpet mats in black. I've seen the later models which have Lexus written down the side on the front mats. Thanks
  14. My top 5 would be - and this is very hard to narrow it down to just 5. 1. Aston Martin DB5, I know it is a cliche 2. Ford Gran Torino (Starsky & Hutch) loved that car when I was a kid & still do 3. Audi Quattro a red one 4. BMW E23 735i - I need something to carry the wife & kids in, but this is when I got into big luxury cars 5. Ford Mustang Fastback (Steve McQueens car from Bullit) love the sound of that car & the Dodge Charger in the chase scene Other cars would also have been Mercedes 560 SE from the 1980's along with 500 SL Porsche 911 Turbo Audi 200 Turbo Ferrari 308 GTS Jaguar E Type Jenson Interceptor III Lexus LS400 I would love to include an IS, but I don't understand how Lexus think. For example why did'nt they do the IS200 with a 5 speed automatic? Why isn't the current IS not available with smaller petrol engines instead of the 2.5. For example an IS200 petrol auto. Even the 2.0 diesel is not available as an auto.
  15. I've had a few IS200's but this one is the one I've been fondest of the most and regret selling. But needs must (3 kids). However I am still lucky to have bought another one. Unfortunately its not red. Love the IS in red. Really like the pictures everyone has put up of their cars as its nice to know that I'm not the only one out there who loves his car.
  16. Hi Clifton 94, you are 100% right. When I started to look at the service history of my car and where it had been serviced and the what those garages were saying I knew that they did not know what they were talking about. My uncle had trusted these people and that they were doing the work they said they were doing. When I had the spark plugs checked, these had not been changed since 2006. The pollen filter had never been changed from new. My uncle stopped using the main dealer because the cost was to high compared to mileage he was doing. He was averaging 3000-5000 miles a year. The car is now 13 years old and has only done 72k. I bought the car cheap, but I've had to spend money on it. Like they say "its not the mileage but how the previous owner has kept the car that makes the difference when buying a used car". Can you PM your details as I'd like to bring the car down to get the timing belt checked as I've been told this has been replaced. Having been to the garage which was meant to have done this, I'm not filled with confidence.
  17. Hi, I live in Ilford also. I have an IS200 & my car was in the same situation as yours as in it had not been serviced for a while by the previous owner. I only found this out after I bought the car from my uncle who assured me it was serviced regularly. I got some quotes from local garages saying they could do a full service for £160 - £200 including parts and oil. The spark plugs cost £85 new from Lexus or £72 if use NGK. If you put in a good quality oil that's another £50-£60. How can anyone service the car for that price when the parts alone come close to that. The key issue for me was if the spark plugs needed changing as these are not cheap. I took my car to BNW on the high road as Stewart services my BMW and knows what he is talking about plus I know he does what he says. I bought the parts from Lexus Woodford, air filter, oil filter, pollen filter, spark plugs. I told them that I could get the parts from Lexus Birmingham on ebay for less than they had quoted, they gave me a discount and it came to £105 for the above parts. In hindsight I should have bought the oil as well as this was expensive Stewart uses Fuchs and put the best stuff put in the car (£65), he also supplied and changed the brake fluid. The only jobs left now are the gearbox oil and diff oil as I'm not sure when these were last changed. I'm going to see if Lexus Woodford will match or better the quotes from Lexus Bradford and Lexus Leeds to change this. The other people are Westfield motors in Rayleigh 01268783205. Just be wary of anyone quoting you a really cheap price, because it will come down to the quality of the parts are quality of the oil. These cars are bulit proof if serviced properly. As for the air box look on ebay or contact IS300/2011 on ebay he breaks IS300 & IS200. Hope that helps
  18. Nice wheels, both white and black. Did you use a special type of paint for the wheels and calipers? I've got the standard 5 spoke alloys which have kerb marks and are corroded. How did you deal with that, to make them look so professional? Thanks
  19. Hi, Are the brake pad shims - anti squeal kit only available from Lexus? The shims are missing on my car and the kit is about £50 from Lexus and I was wondering if these were available from other suppliers? Thanks
  20. I'm going to stick with Toyota Type T IV for the gearbox. How much oil will I need for the diff?
  21. Thanks for the adivce. I am thinking of using the Toyota Type IV. As I mentioned before the downside is the fact that you have too much to do it once and not enough for a second time as it is only available in 5ltrs and the gearbox only takes 2.8ltrs. I tried to buy some from the US but the shipping costs were too high. The ideal situation would be to buy a job lot and sell it through the club. For anyone about to overhaul their slide pins, you need 4 rubber boots as I found out today. I am hoping the creaking will stop now that the slide pins have been changed and new grease applied.
  22. No worries. We all have those moments. Has anyone tried the Mobil Gearbox Oil ATF 3309? I was reading on Opie Oils website that it is recommended for service fill applications where Toyota T-IV, T4, T-III or T3 are called for or the Fuchs Titan ATF4400 it says it compatible for all Japanese cars including Toyota T-IV. Getting very confused which to use.
  23. Mine is an Auto. The Swede thanks for the link, but mine car is a IS200 not a GS430. The shipping costs do not make it a viable option. I tried to buy the Auto gearbox oil, but the shipping costs were $72.
  24. The parts cost £58 and the dealer gave me a 5% discount on top of that. I used the link you kindly provided for the part numbers & quantities. I hope I've ordered enough rubber boots. I'll let you know how I get on. I've still got the gearbox oil and diff oil to get changed. The Lexus gearbox oil ATF T-4 is £55 and is only available in 5 ltrs. However the car only needs 2.8ltrs. They give you too much to change it once, but not enough to change it a second time?
  25. Thanks everyone. I ordered them from Lexus. Not that cheap even with the dealer giving me a discount. I have to get this sorted as I've got a long trip up to the outlaws next week.
