  1. The drop in the mpg is not a good sign either. I always tend to fear the worst and then if it's not the worst it doesn't seem so bad. That's where I'm coming from, not trying to be a scaremonger or anything. Just this engines reputation really does proceed itself :(

KC14... It all depends how badly the HG has "gone". If the head is warped then it's a new head at least.

Read through some threads on this forums. Bills have been stupid, like £5k!

  2. Lexus diesel spraying coolant over engine bay.... Anybody else thinking first sign of head gasket failure. The IS200d and IS220d are known for failed head gaskets, first sign being coolant spraying inside the engine bay from a pressurised radiator. Pressurised with exhaust gases. I hope not, but there's so many cases of the head gasket going on the diesel.

Lexus even admitted a design fault with the Head Gasket and will replace the engine free of charge if the car is under 111,000 miles and 7 years old.

  3. I guess your talking about my "this" comment short fuse.

You said you wanted to "clear out your heater matrix" suggesting that it was blocked or malfunctioning as I don't see any other reason as to why you would need or want to flush out the heater matrix.

Flushing your rad isn't gonna cure anything wrong with your heater matrix. I was just agreeing with the post above mine by Clifton.

If you want to flush the cooling system, drain it, run distilled water through it. Then drain the distilled water and fill with the appropriate coolant.

  4. Yes of course.

The primary 02 sensors are responsible for creating the correct amount of fuel/air ratio in the cylinders for optimum combustion.

If a primary 02 sensor is faulty the car goes into default fuelling as it cannot rely on the 02 sensors. Default fuelling = over fuelling as the car is programmed never to allow fuel starvation of any cylinders to occur.

  5. Of course you got treated well, you went in there to spend £30k!!

A good salesperson will not come to a conclusion on weather or not you can afford the cars they're selling purely on first impressions. It's the worst mistake any salesman/woman can make and it's trained out of them now.

You think those salespeople start work at the dealer and are instantly allowed to sell cars? Nope, they undergo training before being let loose. Number 1 item in all sales peoples training is.... Do not judge on first appearances and treat every potential customer (every person that walks into the dealership) the same!!

  6. Correct, changing pads and discs will not affect the alignment.

My suspicion would be your calliper on whatever side the car is pulling to is starting to sieze. This now presents itself more blatantly because you have new discs and pads.

    After a drive do this...

Check the temp of all four wheels. If one is hotter than the other three and it's on the side the car is pulling to, suspect a siezing calliper.

Does the car smell of hot brakes after a drive?

jack the car up. The front wheels should be easily spun by hand and rotate freely. If they don't, the calliper is sticking.

Other thing to check is your front lower control arm bushes. If these are perished and the rubber is split then an alignment is pointless as the settings will be changing constantly because the bush isn't doing it's job and the car will wander/pull.
