  1. In my experience with RX, Sport mode forces thermal engine to stay ON even at low speed, probably to be ready to give power if needed in fast acceleration; at higher constant speed, when engine is already on,  mpg are not different from normal mode.

In ECO mode, mpg are a bit better because this mode use other strategies to limit energy waste, like AC management and a "sleepy" performance.

My usual mode is Normal, as when I set Sport mode I like to have some fun not considering fuel spare.

  2. In ECO mode and normal conditions,  ICE keeps off till the mid of eco range on power meter, but in this cold weather it goes on easily to have a warm temp in cooling system and AC, so  nothing to be worried;  cold weather affects  mpg negatively too.

About mist in rear lights, better give a look, no mist in my RX.

Passing from a CT to a v6 RX is a big jump, enjoy your new car but do not expect  same fuel spare  😄

After some time you could find yourself more at ease using normal mode, anyway power is more than sufficient in any mode, compliment again, from photos it looks like new.

  3. I love my RX450h, but I had the chance to try a NX 450h (plugin) while waiting for a fast service  intervention, and I had positive and negative feelings comparing the two cars.

NX , expecially in EV mode, was faster and really quiet,  the stiffer chassis improved driveability, and infotainment (compared to my 2016 RX) is now up to date; even fuel consumption is far better in hybrid mode, but if you plan to use gasoline and not to charge electric, NX Hybrid has more sense (even with a little worse 0-60 time). The suggestion is for a NON Fsport choice.

And now, the bad: even if in most of time (more than in RX) engine is off (and then silent), when it goes on the sound is of 4 cyl, very silenced but different from V6 in RX. The question is: what I would do if I had the need to change my RX? Probably I would buy a NX450h, not needing more space and considering new RX has a four banger too, but at the moment I don't need  , so I may wait new models, and sparing money (not irrelevant topic).

When I tried to accelerate to join the motorway (in auto D) i just got lots of engine revs but virtually non-existent accleration.

The eCVT system does not have real gears. You have to consider taht thermal engine revs are linked to Power you ask, and are not linked with speed, if you require fast acceleration don't  care of engine revs and press the pedal , no fear to damage engine.

If it seems to you  that car is "slow" verify in which MODE it's set, and if it is in ECO switch to Normal or, wanting more in SPort mode.  I tried a NX 450+ and it's brilliant, with a 0-60 time of 6 seconds (or a little bit more).

  5. The problem with hybrid with ecvt is that, if you have no more fuel , it's quite a catastrophe, as you discharge traction Battery and and that point after refuelling, you can' restart car anymore. To avoid this, the left range indication is very pessimistic to force users not to end fuel. Using a plug-in may complicate more the estimate range. My simple rule is to consider to to absolutely  fuelling  below "zero" range, even if there could be made many miles before total disaster. Besides, a fuel pump working with no gasoline circulating risks to break with another expensive repairing.

  6. S mode, as I can see, it's only a way to use "gears" like in manual gears cars,  but in our hybrids it is useful only to avoid in long downhill traits to have more engine braking ( like in smaller hybrids with "B" mode) downshifting; the real difference in performance is using Sport mode, accepting the fact you will burn more fuel. In Rx going to Sport mode (activated by centre knob) therma engine will be on for more time and at a lower speed, while electric engines will receive a higher V from Battery pack, being capable to deliver more power (and descharging Battery faster, so the need to have more charging from thermal engine).  S+ mode , if available, works on adaptive suspension  system .
