    The gearbox on my 2002 rx seems to have given up the ghost. This morning I tried to start it, which it did but very slowly. It has been standing for a couple of weeks, and the battery seemed to be almost flat, plus it was very cold last night. At first it seemed to misfire but then ran smoothly, but the throttle would not respond. Checking under the bonnet the throttle linkages would not move, but, after warming up for ten minuttes, it suddenly started to respond to the throttle.

    I assume that all of this was because the battery was almost flat, and needed to be charged up before it could start to feed the circuits.

    However the gearbox will not engage any gears whatsoever. I was wondering if there is a fuse or relay which has blown, and where it is located.

    Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated?

    Whenever I have had the misfortune to have to buy a part from Lexus, the quoted price never includes V.A.T. I wonder if this extends to the price of the extended warranty? I would look at what is included with the extended warranty from Lexus compared to the up to one offered by "Warranty Direct", which covers cars up to 14 yrs old. Need to check also on the maximum mieage covered.

    I have a 2002 RX300, the gearbox of which has recently given up the ghost after 132,000 miles. I know that I could not have bought a warranty on it, extended or otherwise, but a quote for £2,562 plus another £1,700 + VAT for a new E.C.U., the old one which, I was told, caused the problem, means that the car is not financially viable to repair. It also has a problem with the cabin air system. So I have bought an '06 SE model with 88,000 miles on it. Obviously Lexus will not sell a warranty, but Quentin Wilson's sponsored firm will, but only for up until the car is 14 years old. I hope that this helps with the discussion. Anyone want to buy the old one for spares after I have removed the L.P.G. conversion.

    I fitted ebc discs and pads to the front of my LS400 earlier last year and they squeal like mad when cold, especially when reversing off the drive. All my neighbours knew when I am going out. After the first few applications they stay quiet untill the next time I drive from cold. I now reverse onto the drive and move off forwards so as not to disturb the neighbours. I won't be fitting those again.
