Although I knew that parking sensors were not factory fitted to the rx400h, and I knew they were dealer fitted, I didn't anticipate that they were a Lexus kit.  This makes it very strange that they were not available as a factory fit option.

So, has anybody tried fitting this kit?  Does it just plug in, without cutting any wires? I wonder how much work is involved.

The cars I was looking at prior to purchase did not have this kit so I researched buying it off eBay and getting it fitted. Difficulty wise I’d put the job as medium, the real issues just being time required and the bits of the car requiring dismantling. The cables are mostly plug and play, with little splicing, and the instructions are clear and comprehensive. The biggest job is using the supplied templates to hole cut the bumpers. If you want to know more pm me an email address and I’ll send you a pdf copy of the manual so you can see the nature of the job. Of course if you buy the kit then you could always get it installed professionally.

If you decide to buy off eBay make sure you get the full kit including all 8 sensors. Have seen some that are sans sensors, which on their own are circa £70 each to buy. Buyer beware

So the brake pads low warning on many cars is the result of inserting a metal piece into the pad which scrapes against the disc when the pad tthickness reduces to a certain point.  The noise is horrible by design. hth.....

Apols Yuri, my response is not relevant to your question. That’ll teach me about late night posting!!!

Having seen the aftermath of a 1/2” socket drive extension weld itself between the terminal and battery clamp causing the battery to catch fire (the mechanic could not pull the extension off the battery) I am surprised, that’s all.

Although it was one of the more obvious causes of “thermal events” my company investigated over the years 😀

hmm, I see your point!! Experience trumps everything eh 👀👍

  4. Just bought a 2006 RX350 from a Lexus Dealer complete with 12 month Lexus warranty. The car is in v good condition, and is well set up for another 50k miles. Have had it up on ramps, no problems found, and had the six plugs changed. Only rust is on n/s rear door at base where a stone chip has clearly been ignored for too long but it is cosmetic and will survive with a coat of WD40 until the summer.

We bought the car to do the Scotland NC500 next month, including some suitably gentle off-roading. Avoided the RX400 because it’s drive train is recognised for being not as good as the 350 in the sticky stuff.

Love the car, so much  that it is now at risk of becoming a keeper. 25/27 mpg is ok for the size and weight, and having the 3.5 V6 AWD is great fun!

Thanks, I already pulled all that out and couldn’t find it though.

Had to get to the fusebox on my 2006 RX350 last weekend. Its a v small box with mini blades in. Found it by removing the panel under/behind the glovebox. Has a black cover held in by a clip and sits under the glovebox furthest away from the front of the car. It's not visible unless you get your head right under, or use a mirror or phone to fake a pic. This is what it looks like with the cover removed:

Would be surprised if Toyota had redesigned the electrics system just because of a name change so hopefully it is in same place....

DAB was an option on all variants until 2011, except for SE-L and SE-L Premier where they had it as standard.

For vanilla FM, if the reception is poor you may need to look at the antenna itself (wires at the top of the rear screen) or the antenna amplifier.

Herbie, unlike later 450s the 350s of 2005/06 vintage have a roof mounted whip aerial. Is this not the FM? I can’t see evidence of a diversity aerial on the rear screen elements......

Or am I not seeing wood for trees, or at least aerials for hrw 😉

    thanks

Thank you Michael.  I will look at this.   Do I just reach round the back of the radio or do I need to take some trim off first?

Hi again, there are two bits of trim to come off, and four screws, before you can lift the unit away and look around the back. The aerial connectors are stacked one above the other on the lh side top as you look at the unit. I used these two vids as a guide:

Let me know if you’d like further guidance. Skype or FaceTime can be v helpfup at times like these👍

I have the same problem on my RX350 (2005).  Very annoying.

My 06 RX350 reception is of very good quality, so your issue may hopefully be easily solved.....it’s first worth checking that both aerial plugs on the back of the radio unit are fully home and the leads undamaged, and that a previous owner has not interfered with or added to the ICE set up. Getting to the back of the unit is straightforward (it has to be for me to do it, and I recently did lol) and checking the aerial plugs which sit on the back on the lh side as you look at it, simple to do.

  9. Pic is of rhe fusebox under the glovebox passenger side.

Am fitting an ezi-DAB unit and need a switched and permanent live. Plenty of places to find the required earth.

Does anyone know if it is possible to take a switched and permanent live from this box? Would it be possible to do so via piggybacking? Any ideas on which might be fixed/live?

    Thanks for all guidance..

    Thanks for posting this.

I'm currently about 1000 miles away from doing the same job and was dreading the inlet mani removal.  Definitely gives me another option now!

Only advice I can give is to make sure you have all the right tools, esp magnetic ones,  a v good lamp, and do one plug at a time from the left. By the time you get to the toughest one at the rh back you'll know what you are looking for and how to do it.  Good luck.
