  1.  Wanted to get the V6 plugs changed but everything I've read says it's a nightmare job,  fiddly, 4 hours, difficult and v expensive😶

So bought the oem plugs from Lexus Birmingham on eBay, £70 instead of £100 plus from Dealer, and took the car off to two guys who've looked after my Lexus cars for more than fifteen years off and on.

1 hour later Pete and Lates have changed all six plugs using the 'remove wipers, arms and entire cowl but leave plenum/manifold in place' method 🙂

tbh I was stunned and impressed. Lexus book time for the job is iirc 4 hours.

So quality work at a great price. What more do you want....?

  2. 2 hours ago, Lydiamight said:

Easily fitted and unlike the original jets the two outlets can be adjusted with a pin to get the spray pattern correct.

A very easy "do it yourself" job and at £4.99 a fraction of the cost that a garage would charge you----and I also have a spare jet in case the other one packs up

Thanks Lydiamight, really helpful🙂. Have just ordered a set from the ebay link...

  3. So on Day 3 the 12v Battery failed, and kudos to the 2 hour away Lexus Dealer at Croydon, they said 'buy a new one and send us the bill'. So I did :)

By Day 5 I am happy to say this is a superbly comfortable and spacious drive, so different from my now gone GS450h, and just as great a car. Am loving the fold down armrests :) So its 12 years old with 93k on the clock, and wow, does it feel well screwed together. Today I fitted the Vaistech MML I took from the GS450h, and now have my iPod and usb input back. And yes, I did lose the two 10mm bolts into the void but hey, life's too short. Have also updated the sat nav disc (the disc that came with the car was the one it had from new in 2006!!) and now have access to all buttons on the move.

Need to replace n/s screen washer jet as it just dribbles painfully and won't clear with a pin. A bit of a tidy up on the outside but interior is spotless, amazingly so given age and mileage.  Bought the car to do the NC500 road trip in March, not sure the GS would have been the right wheels for the trip he heh and happy to have done. I recentyl had the RXL 7 seater for a day, which was great fun. But this 350 is just class...

One question for RX experts. The switches for the mirror controls and fold in on the rh end of the dash unit, don't light up at night. All others do. Is this a fault or did this set of switches never light up?

    Thanks in advance

    Michael

  4. Long and short of it one doesn’t exist, at least not that I know of. Putting a weight on the roof that comes in three parts and opens/closes is always going to end in tears!  Did a three week European road trip in our SC down to South coast of Spain and back up;  travel light and get a set of the tailor made bags that fit in the boot, even with the roof down. We had great fun...enjoy

  5. Hi, have just bought a 2006 RX350 as my third of Lexus ownership, following on from a 2004 SC430 and most recently a 2009 GS450h. Am aiming to buy the new UX full ev when it finally arrives but in the meantime am discovering what a great car the 350 is!

Bought from Lexus Croydon with a 12 month Lexus warranty (and Lexus Recovery for a year) so what’s not to like?

Today I hope to install the Vaistech MML 1 taken from the GS to give me usb and iPod inputs, and as soon as possible the Alpine EZi-DAB to get back digital radio. Anyone know of a permanent and switched live feed in the centre console area? Am hoping to fit most of the DAB wires and boxes in there to keep the dash clutter free lol

Car is black interior with light blue body.....

    cheers

    C

  6. When, as will happen, the PCP bubble bursts, then the service sides of volume manufacturers, plus those such as Lexus, are likely to catch a bad financial cold. In the meantime Lexus is not helping itself with clumsy and weak attempts to cement customer loyalty after 3 years. The majority of Lexus Dealers know this and are stamping service books, whatever the marketing speak used to describe a particular type of service. The sooner Lexus recognise this and sort out their servicing 'offer', the better for everyone - all imho of course :)

  7. I think the £159 is Lexus essential servicing - the only thing they dont give you is a Lexus stamp.

.......to the best of my knowledge, and going by posts on here, a fair few Lexus dealers are now recognising that this idea of no 'stamp' for a 5 year + service is no way to keep/win loyal customer business. Stamped service books are becoming quite de rigeur for 5 year plus work I understand................ ;)

  8. No excuse for such poor performance from Lexus dealers - I wonder whether they are all owned by the same parent co?

Recently had the GS450h serviced by Lexus Cambridge (Jardines). I was given a literally brand new IS300h with all toys for the day (4 miles on the odo and untouched), the job was done in full, plus the MOT, and full Gold Member discount applied to what was already a competitive deal.

I also get the same discount on all parts, and the Cambridge parts department are first class with their advice and customer care - have not come across better in many years.........

Next in to Lexus Cambridge is the SC430 for the airbag recall which is 2 days work! hmmm, wonder if they have an RC-F? ;)

  9. Great job and great post Mark, knowledge really is power..

Thanks for demystifying the whole shebang. Whether doing the job diy, or getting it done elsewhere, your how to will be a real help to 450h owners...

    A couple of questions:

Would you advise other cautions on protection from electric shock over and above guidance about steering clear of cells 1 and 40?

Is the replacement cell you sourced a Toyota/Lexus part, or another supplier?

And last one, did the car warning lamps/messages reset automatically with the cell replaced?

Thanks again for posting this. Not a job for the fainthearted I'm sure but priceless knowledge

  10. yep - that ones has been on sale for a while now - i would say atleast 2 months

Now that i look at AT everyday for 450hs , i have noticed that they are slow sellers

that is very true. My car sat for sale for more than 6 months, even with fsh, low mileage and SE-L with ACC/PCS, and the price gradually dropping...:) With not many 450h's around my view is that rarity combined even now with hybrid cars being an unknown quantity for most buyers, plus Lexus main dealers working hard to hold prices up, all mean that many 450h's sit around long. When I was looking I spotted cars around for >12 months!

  11. Almost certain to be your tyres needing changing. Had exactly same issue on my 450h soon after I bought it. Tyres looked to have life left in them measured by mm depth but we're in fact shot. As soon as most modern wide tyres get to 3 or 4mm ish then they can tramline like hell and under heavy braking take you all over the road. It's worth getting quality replacements to help avoid same in future.
