Why does the head gasket going result in a new engine? Can't the head gasket just get replaced?

Hello chaps, had my is220d since November. Has a week and had vsc light problem. Egr valve cleaned, inlet manifold removed cleaned, egr eventually replaced and finally in January got a new cat fitted after several clean outs failed. No lights after 3k miles but their is now a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust. It's not overheating and no difference to performance. My Mpg varies from 34 and 49mpg depending on town or motorway driving. It is a 56 plate 93k miles and 7 of the 9 service stamps are from Lexus. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks. No, I've not got Lexus warranty. However I've only had the car a couple of weeks & It's still under warranty from the used car dealership. My car is booked into Lexus Edinburgh next Wednesday & I'm glad I am not having to pay at £95 an hour Labour.

Hi guys. Any idea what would cause faulty signals to these sensors? My VSC light is on but its not going into limp home mode. A backstreet garage plugged their computer into it, despite telling me what faults their machine came up with, they advised i take it to Lexus for a proper diagnosis as they were having problems connecting to the ecu.

Hi guys. My first post. I've not even had my IS220d (56 plate, 85k, Serviced every 10k) two weeks yet and the 'VSC CHECK' light has come on a couple of times. First time the light came on it went out as I drove it to a garage the next day. It didn't go into limp home mode & the mechanic said it had two logged but old fault codes. ABS, low voltage & NOX separator, low voltage. He asked if I'd had a flat battery recently but not whilst I've owned it. It came back on this morning. I then took it a 30mile round trip down the A1 keeping the revs at about 3000rpm. The light didn't go out. I went home, then picked up the wee man from pre school & after that I went to Tesco. After I came out the light was gone. I'm driving to Liverpool from Edinburgh tomorrow & back on Sunday. Going to use Redex diesel treatment for both trips. I'm a tad confused that it didn't go into limp mode nor did it have recent fault codes! It was serviced 4k miles ago. I've read that oil can be a problem?! Amongst other things. I'm praying this long motorway trip will do it the world of good.
