  3. I read a long time ago (in Fast Lane magazine!) that Mobil One was so good it could actually reverse engine wear, or something along those lines. Back then it was only available as 0W-40. Has anyone put that in an LS engine?
  4. I never though of it like that. My concern when I was looking for a Lexus was that an LS400 engine could seemingly go on to 300k miles with no bother and I just couldn't see an after-market conversion keeping up with those numbers without some work at some point. I may be wrong. I just didn't want to risk it.
  5. It may be me but surely one of the main reasons you by a Lexus is the satisfaction of knowing that top engineers in Japan designed your engine and top mechanics built it. Is better economy worth messing with all that superior engineering? I'm not so sure. When I was looking for an LS, I went to look at a converted car just out of interest. One look under the bonnet told me I was right to be concerned.
  6. Thank you very much, Rupert. I did see this coolant on eBay but I wasn't sure it was the real deal because it's not in the same packaging as the one I was after (unless it's been updated). Thanks also to everyone who contributed.
  7. I had a Mazda before the LS400 and it went for ages on Halford's pink coolant with not a sign of discolouration or corrosion. But, I've read in the forums that it contains silicates that may be harmful to an LS400 engine. And Tesco coolant? I'm shocked! (but I'm going to look it up anyway). Thanks for your replies.
  8. Hello. I went to my local Toyota dealer today for some super long life coolant for my LS400. 11 litres was going to cost me £80. Is this right? Or is there somewhere cheaper?
  9. Is there a sensor in the LS400 that stops the interior lights coming on in daylight?
  10. Do the driver and passenger seat backs wind forward the same amount or does the driver's stop early for some reason (airbag?)
  11. That looks like just the job. Many thanks once again.
  12. Thank you very much Ian. I've never had air conditioning before so that explains a lot. A Haynes manual would help but I don't think they do them for the LS400. What's the next best thing in your opinion?
  13. Hello everyone. I'm going to appear really dim now. I've finally got the LS400 I've wanted for a long time (Mk4, 2000) but there is a bit of equipment in front of the radiator with pipes coming out of it and what looks like a spy glass on top showing something green inside. What is it?
