  1. I have had massive problems upgrading my SAT NAV, I have the 2001 DVD version and nothing on the web or Ebay works, I think it was a strange year and the 2002 is easy to get disks. I am not willing to pay £300 on a update which goes to 2009, I would love to test mrdoofa's on my satnav :) as I am still in 2000
  2. I get 29 to 30 on the motorway at a steady 70ish, round town in the low 20's, A/C on or not. I have had my GS 430 quite some years, so I thought I would talk about my issues. All Gs430's of this age will have issues with the exhaust Y section, I bet your has been patched up have a look what has been done, I converted a stainless Steel Sierra XR4x4 one, also the join flange from the CATS to the Y section rust through and blow. I had a rare issue for LEXUS but common for Toyota, my sump started rusting though behind the Cross member, so it had to be replaced. The AC condenser breaks down it does not leak, have a look. There is a electronic/Valve on the 3UZ which controls the flap in the intake manifold which fails, it will not effect fuel consumption or emissions, you will just drop a little power at peak revs and you will get a engine light, this will not fail a MOT. I finally changed mine, but you have to take the intake manifold off, which is a pain. and the thermostat half fails, it does not fully open. Other than that disk and pads etc. One more thing parts which are specific to the GS430 are tricky to find in the UK and LEXUS will abuse your wallet: For non-Lexus manufactured parts: www,rockauto.com, they send to UK and it is quick, I ordered rear brake hardware kit on the Wednesday and the Parts arrived the following Tuesday. Lexus charged £45 plus VAT for the part, rockauto charged £3.78, plus 8.45 shipping. For Lexus only parts go onto www.ebay.com, lots of the Lexus dealers sell on there and ebay will automatically sort the shipping and import duty, New sump for my car from UK LEXUS £250 plus VAT, new sump from LEXUS US £160 with shipping and import duty.
  3. Cougar, that was my first thoughts when I first started having the issue, but I would say with many of the fins missing there is less surface area, so it would get hotter, but with the vents there would be more hot air going into the rad. Going to change my rad as I think the cooling system is under performing, the change of thermostat has helped a lot. .
  4. was in Cornwall a couple of weeks ago, with the family, you would have spotted me, you don't see many GS430's with a roofbox.
  5. Thanks Steve you are a good man, I have been searching and it seems the rad will fit, well the mounting points and main feeds, but it seems the LS400 does have a filler cap different and I am not sure how the reservoir will fit. let me do some more research and I will get back to you.
  6. I would, but my car is a daily, it would need to be off the road, there is a couple of second had ones on Ebay and they look much better than mine, but would rather have a new one.
  7. Hi thanks for the comments, another update. Changed the thermostat, the old one was not in good shape, thought I had sorted it, it will now sit in park and you can run the aircon and it will be ok, before it would over heat with in 5 to 10mins when hot. but once I started to drive round town under load with little air, it started climbing again, but the climb was not as harsh, I thought I had some air in it, so spent a lot of time burping it, there was some air not much. so I took the rad top clips of and parted the rad from the Aircon condenser, well we seemed to have a great deal of green stuff and as I looked closer it looked blocked, it seems the Aircon condenser has been breaking spilling all the little bits of Alloy in to the rad, I have cleaned a lot of it out, but it has damaged the fins, but on the plus point it did not overheat after that. So I will need a new Rad, the problem is you cannot get GS430 one, I have heard a LS 400 one fits can anyone confirm???
  8. Update: As you know it was HOT yesterday, did not even bother with A/C as I know it would cause issues, anyway in traffic the car was ok fans keeping under 100C ODB11 reader, but as I moved off after 20mins in traffic I started to creep over 100c, I needed to do my normal lift and coast in neutral to control the temp, got home waited for it cool, checked coolant all good, gave it a burp no air, the rad is holding pressure. So it can only 2 things, dodgy water pump, unlikely as the water is circulating, ok could have lost loads of fins, but once again unlikely, so it can only be the thermostat, I have ordered a new one, hope it gets here soon.
  9. that was my next move, can you get them from any parts firm, they are not lexus only?
  10. All, I am pulling my hair out with this, I have had my GS430 for 3 years and it has a issue which I cannot resolve. When the outside temp hits about 25c, I have over heating issues with the aircon on, I never let it go anywhere near the red, I just turn off the aircon. I have drained the Radiator, burped it with the heating on so the cooling should be ok, but it still gets hot. The fans kick in, but they seem to not go into turbo mode then just stick at one speed, I am sure this is fine as the GS430 doesn't not have different speeds. One final point the aircon could do with a re-gas as it does take it time to cool and the aircon rad is missing loads of the vertical fins, so it is not perfect and the service area has reduced, but it should not cause overheat. HELP!!!! the heat is killing me
  11. ebay.com, get it shipped. ebay sort the import duty and shipping it will cost you just over £100. I got a sump from US cheaper than down the road at lexus, but over £150
  12. Thanks mate, had my eye on a couple of racks on Ebay, but did not bid due to being Gen3.
  13. Chaps, I need to roof rack for my beloved GS, Thule don't make them any more, but do you guys have a part number for them and could they be the same as the GS Gen 3 as the roof line looks almost the same? thanks in advance
  14. There is a under tray, but it does not really cover the sump and all the rust was the part of the sump hidden by the cross member. I think road sh^t was trapped there and rusting away.
  15. Update, the Sump arrived from the States Saturday morning and had it fitted Saturday afternoon, not the most straight forward install. All the bolts where easy to get to, except the two rear ones, which where hidden by the cross member, had to unbolt the engine mounts and raise the engine 2 inches to get a modified spanner to it. I have a friend who owns and garage, with lifts and all the toys, you would struggle with out one.
  16. Ok final update :) I went on ebay.com and found a new sump from a lexus dealer from the states. Price from lexus UK £250 plus VAT Price from Bell Lexus US + ebay shipping and import duty £ 105.... Guess which one I have purchased!
  17. Update: I have rung everyone and used the above web site, yes there are loads of sc430 and GS430 being broken, but they not remove the sump from the engine, as the engines are all good. looks like I will be spending money at lexus :(
  18. Had the car on the ramp, the sump is rusted from the back, road salt I am told by lexus you can see the rust and the dribbles. P's the sump does not have a gasket you use black silicone
  19. Chaps, I need your help big time :) My GS430 sump is seeping oil and it needs to be replaced, I have been going round breaker and so far only managed to find a LS430 one, which after checking with Lexus it is a different part number. So I am looking for a GS430 or SC430 Sump, chaps can you put a word round please, as £250 plus VAT from Lexus is just too painful. cheers
  20. just been looking at the toyota tank and the wheels are far to small so a purchase may be needed. don't like most aftermarket wheels they just look far to chav central. so thinking gen 2 sport or gen 1 sport wheels, has any one got pictures of gen1 on sport wheels on a gen2 ?
  21. Hello all! After being a Ford nutter for years, xr4x4's with cosworth 24v and 3 door YB cosworths then abusing credit cards and needing to buy a ford focus, pants boring thing thought I needed power with out the pain. so I thought Toyota, then research has produced a purchase of a GS 430 SE Gen2 brillaint car, after driving it for 6 months, we have a couple of issues. The butterfly flaps on the inlet fannymould are not working due to a £40 valve, which is under the manifould, pure pants. and a oil leak, not sure were but knowing my luck it will be the crank shaft seal. this can wait only a tea spoon a day. ANYWAY!!!!! hello all
