  1. Hmmmmm, The code was read at Lexus Reading and they said that P0138 is 2 oxygen sensors and a new ECU total cost £2985 In fairness to the service manager there he did say 'you can try the sensors first as that might work' I have a fast and rough idle on cold is about the only symptom so would you suggest replacing just the faulty 02 sensor and risking that its not a perm fix or chucking the car back at the dealer (although they wont fix it as they say its not their problem and the warranty doesn't cover O2's)?
  2. So, the car company that have sold me the lexus will not accept return of the car with the 0138 error as they have said it wasn't present at sale blah blah and Yes I know my right to reject/repair. The company have requested I put the repair through the warranty process as this what they say is their normal process - well I have sent them my intention to reject if a full repair as recommended by lexus isn't carried out as I feel this does affect the value of the car if I chose to resell. Lexus have told me that this is a cracking car except this one fault, oh and the height sensor snapped, lol. It has no other faults when ran through the computer so I am thinking it might be a good one if repaired. MY QUESTION IS, Is it only a lexus dealer that can carry out the O2 and ECU repair - this is what I have been told and also been told that the price charged is without Labour as it is an inclusive process as part of a bulletin but the parts are as priced - does this mean it would actually be more expensive at an independent or am I misunderstanding again. I hate this whole mess - Never had anything other than a bulb go in the LS :(
  3. Wasn't meant that way at all, just hate that I am selling something that has had everything done on it. If it was an advert then I would have said blah mileage blah service blah colour blah blah but I didn't. It was more a 'my car has had all this work done so I thin the LOC members would understand the value of this in the car - but do they sell here' No I wouldn't have been bothered as a gold member as I would have read the mail as intended rather than jump to conclusions. In fact I would have just answered with a yes or no rather than a only u can decide - we make decisions based on the facts and that is what I am trying to gather. As I say this might all be a waste of forum space as the GS might be going back as it needs the ecu and sensors - and yes I tried the fuel cap (replaced with lexus part)
  4. Yup that was my point I KNOW I NEED TO JOIN AND THAT WAS WHAT I WAS ASKING - is it worth joining now to sell or are the other roots of sale more effective - This was not a how do I sell my car as I say 'is it worth joining' so I am well aware that I need to be a member MORE 'how successful have people been selling through the FOC' Thought my post was clear, but guess it wasn't if it was actually read in its entirety and not just the opening gambit. Again I will ask - Have people had much success here or are the other formats a better option at the moment - although this may be a void question as my new GS has been diagnosed as 2 sensors and an ECU so waiting for the selling garage to get back to me as I think they will say return the car as Lex Reading has quoted the standard £2950 for this work. It makes me not want to join a site that's gold members support can post this reply and have obviously not read the full post - slightly offended.
  5. That, on reflection, is what I thought; but at the time I thought the world would end if I didn't change it. I know now that I should have walked away and sought alternative options. OR taken it on the chin that lexus are not cheap.
  6. Yeah I know, stupid me for feeling pressured into buying something and feeling that I didn't have a choice to take it else where. Shame I was made to feel that if I drove it away I was putting my life at risk as I am sure this is not what 'lexus' advise their service people to make people feel. And I am sure this is an isolated incident as my dealings with Reading have always been excellent - Just not this time. Totally my fault !! yes I agreed to pay (as would have you in the circumstances) and yes I take that on the chin -BUT I do not want others suffering the same just because only lexus can supply and fit these parts and know that they can use this fact and the 'its dangerous' point to push you to say ' OK just do it as I don't have a choice' (My words). Again, Stupid me for feeling intimidated, pressured and trapped, stupid stupid matt. As an aside - the actual work - as always is excellent - just didn't enjoy the pressure or feeling ripped off. How can they charge 0.8hrs labour if they only have the car for 20 minutes? That 20 minutes includes time to wash it badly, which I presume I Don't pay mechanics labour for.
  7. So was I ripped off by lexus Reading Charging me £81 for diagnostic but if you have the tyre repaired now, which we would recommend as it isn't safe, then its £200 That's expensive I said, they responded 'its the cost of the parts' Well I find out I would have been charged £45 for the part from parts but it was nearly £70 on my invoice plus nearly an hours labour charge to replace a valve and programme? Is this correct as a friend who fits tyres has done them before and it has been 5 minutes er corner for fit and then about 5 for the reprogramme??? So my calculations are about £54 for part inc and about £25 for labour inc so that's £79 not £200 hmmmmmmmm Complained and got manager calling me, but bet that doesn't come down to £79 lol
  8. Hi Guys, Well I have bitten the bullet and decided to upgrade/downgrade lol my 2002 LS to a 2005 GS. It is a step down in performance and a little in ride but the more modern looks and feel are better for me and I enjoy the look of the GS more. I love my LS and spent a fortune getting everything sorted (New air sus, new brakes, new aircon pipes for rear, 4 new tyres etc) but I just wish it looked 'younger'. It is hurting me to sell it as it goes against everything I am feeling as the car is faultless and never thrown up an error BUT the GS is now 2 weeks in ownership and has had 3 issues come to surface already and I am about to get an OBD done to see if I have the dreaded O2 sensors and ECU (If so it will be going back!!!). With this in mind, I am at the point of needing to get serious about possibly selling the LS (If the GS doesn't go back). I know that I wont get back what I paid for the car and the huge money I have spent on the car (Suspension- OUCH, Rear aircon - OUCH) and on top of this I had all the plugs replaced with the top of the range iridium ones at £160 plus all filters etc. The car runs so well................I am nuts..............why even think about it............. So the question that has to be asked at the moment is, how good is the LOC for selling cars?? I am financially strapped at the moment having had to have back surgery 2 days after my new purchase - not even had chance to drive it properly yet lol. With this in mind, I am not working and need to be careful with funds. I am going to join at some point as I am now an addicted lexus owner and I cant see that changing anytime soon but for now I just need to get back to a single lexus family. Please advise if cars do actually sell through here or if the other streams are better to spend my money on at the moment. (please say LOC lol that's 2 birds 1 stone) Oh Well, long message thanks to the morphine, cheers for opinions guys. Matt
  9. This looks like the parts used on mine
  10. that's the lexus 2054 concept from Minority Report - looks like it would be a real head turner.
  11. I Drove the 400 and 430 before settling and I guess it is a taste thing. The 400 felt like a normal car (albeit a luxury well constructed one) but the 430 felt special and totally luxurious. I find the 430 smooth and cant feel gear changes at all even under hard acceleration, but I could in the 400. The roads round my way aren't the best and the 400 coped really well but the 430 went a step further and flattened it all out. Maybe I drove a bad 400, or maybe I got a good 430 - BUT I would certainly drive both before deciding as both are excellent choices that no other marque can match in this price range.
  12. £700 for the pipes? which ones have gone wrong s when I was looking there are two from front to back nd one was £142 and the other £160 (+ VAT). Its the labour that's the killer on this as my lexus quoted me 9 hours and even my indy wanted £3-400 labour. The company I used are high pressure and ac specialists based in Reading. They need a ramp to do the fix (available in various places to high for about 30 an hour) And then they charge for the piping and about an hours labour. (depending on where it is gone). I am assured that this is better than getting new pipes as it removes the corrosion prone areas and replaces them with something that wont break again. The only reason I am holding back on naming names is incase the clamps on the pipes go - just in case. so will give it a few more weeks and will send them your way. Matt
  13. Personally I don't thin so as most have after market parking sensors and the BT on the facelift is phone call only and not music. Other than that you are paying for year of manufacture. Personally I think with these cars it is service history and mileage first and then age comes into it.
  14. Glad you got it sorted. Was the cost as bad as expected? Phil No was actually fairly cheap. was kind of a favour as done through a mate of a mate, lol but cost £160
  15. A couple of weeks on and still ice cold - will leave it a bit longer but looks like the repair is all good.
  16. I wonder what he got for it????If I didn't love mine so much I think I would be more upset that I obviously overpaid.
  17. This is what i was thinking! I'll think ill pass for the time being. I did message the seller yesterday, no reply as of yet. His phone number's in the ad so ring him direct and ask all the questions. Well, I don't think it is a bad price with that mileage as mine was more than that with a higher mileage and I thought I got a good deal. Mine is 100% Straight but no LPG - So either I paid too much or this is a good deal (on the face of it)
  18. Had mine repaired today by an AC specialist company (will post their name in a few weeks if all going well) and by god, the AC in the lexus when working fully is bloody freezing. I have had merc, jag and beemers and all are nothing on this fridge, lol.
  19. See, If I could think like that then my life would have been so much easier to now, lol
  20. LOL Yeah.I know I will be able to get away with it if it stays cool but will need a resolve at somepoint. I had heard it can be costly but will see whats what and will get it on a ramp in the next couple of weeks to see if I can sort it.
  21. Oh that's not good news - one of the reasons the 'mrs' let me buy the car was the fridge for the little ones drinks - so how can I spin this without getting my ear chewed (yes I am under the thumb).
  22. Hi from a new owner in Reading. I was interested to know if you have managed to sort out your AC pipe issue and if so what course of action did you take and its cost? I have bought a Lexus and was told it just needed a regas, but alas it actually needs new pipes - a great start to ownership. Matt
