  1. Sorry not 123,000, that should have read 127,000. Not as good as Bluesman though, I admit. Must say, I've never come across a forum quite like this one. People actually out-doing each other in the reliability stakes for their motors. (and these motors are getting on a bit remember). Says something about Lexus cars.

    Just take a look here

    Page one just loaded up

    http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/

    All of them faults !!!!!!!!

  2. Never been attempted as far as I know, the grinding noise you can hear is the ferrite magnet having broken up so even if you manage to open it you won't be able to find the part needed.

The Toyota Landcruiser uses the same motor but the price is significantly cheaper than the Lexus one.

    Does it ??

2003 LS430 part number for power tilt motor is 89231-50050

2003 LS430 part number for power telescopic motor is 89232-50041

2003 Toyota Landcruiser part number for tilt motor is 89231-60021

2003 Toyota Landcruiser part number for telescopic motor is 89232-60021

Because they are different part numbers there will be slight differences with them but I do not know what the differences will be

  3. But was that a Lexus sales guy who said that? I'm still pondering on what I'd replace mine with if the time ever comes. In a weak moment I've been looking at the 7 series. One big advantage the BMW has over Lexus is that there are independent specialists in this area, and at least one very good one. With my 400 my choice is main dealer, DIY or local garages, who seem not to be very knowledgeable about Lexuses. The 730D will do 30 - 40 mpg and can be bought for very little more than the equivalent 3 series, which is madness.

If you don't mind I will analyse what you just wrote:

"One big advantage the BMW has over Lexus is that there are independent specialists in this area"

Basically the reason for this is because it is not financially viable to be a Lexus independent specialist because they do not break often enough to earn an honest crust. The reason why there are an abundance of BMW specialists is because there are an abundance of knackered BMWs needing to be fixed

And for any smart arse who comes up with a comeback saying there are no independent Rover Montego specialists in their area is this because they are reliable too ............... Just don't :P

Stick with the Lexus ............... you know it makes sense

  4. Found this

    http://blog.lexus.co.uk/2013/08/how-does-lexus-hybrid-drive-work/#.U5yc5Sg63eA

    Very interesting read

Tells you how the petrol engine is used to power the batteries when they are needed to be charged up

Also tells you how when going down hill how the electric motors kick in in reverse to gain some charge from the wasted energy there too

All of this in my opinion just adds friction to the running gear and would be like driving a car around town with 2 clicks on the handbrake and 5 bags of cement in the boot.

Also read this for a bit of information on the REAL LIFE MPG figures

    http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-reviews/38182/lexus-ls600h-l

It states that around town you will get no where near the stated 30.4mpg more like 20mpg (which is what my LS400 gets)

Basically from reading all of this I have come to the conclusion that it is a lot of car (very nice car) but there are nicer cheaper things out there

  5. Sorry I'm rolling around the floor here laughing...... On your understanding the hybrid is a waste of time and reducing mpg by having it...... Best you inform the lexus techs ;) so they can recall all hybrids and take them out as there doing nothing but labouring and costing us fuel .... :) ;)

Laugh all you want as far as I was aware to create energy you first must use energy

Kind of like driving a bike all day. If it is just a bike then you will need less energy than if there was a dynamo on the front wheel powering a front lamp

Anyway please enlighten me as to how the electrical engines receive power as I really do not know.

  6. Adam, your terrible brake wobble could be due to a sticking front brake caliper, or, your discs have patches of hardened brake dust 'welded' to them due to heat which causes the pads to 'grab' on and off. Discs don't warp as is usually thought. Try some REALLY heavy braking and see if there is a difference. It reduced my 'wobble' a lot. Got this info and tip from a brake specialist.

Tried this and it didn't really help too much

I have spoken to the local lexus specialist and he said in the 15 years he has been independant and the numerous years before that when he worked at lexus he has NEVER had to replace the bush in the lower suspension arm. Only ever the FRONT lower suspension arm which goes.

I then explained that my discs were new and were fine for the first 1000 miles and then the brake wobble came back and he said it will be to do with the disc not sitting flat on the hub and rubbing against a caliper because of this and its basically cockeyed

To test this I jacked my car up and spun the wheel and the caliper sticks on a certain part of the disc and then frees off. When I say stick I mean ever so slightly so I feel that this specialist may be talking sense.

The discs are under warranty anyway so I will get them swapped over and really clean up the hubs so I can see my face in them

  7. Laboured by generating energy...... Your having a laugh aren't you..... I've had 2 hybrids and the last thing I'd say is it's laboured as for more mpg what do you think the hybrid bit in car is for= more mpg ....... :/

    Nope no laugh

What do you think happens when you put your air con on - the engine is put under more labour because it has to turn an extra pulley

I am guessing that the generator for the electric batteries/engine is some form of alternator with a clutch pulley which when enabled will put the petrol engine under more stress causing it to use more petrol to generate electricity

Please correct me if I am wrong

  8. do you think you can knock them out and then back in again without physically taking the hub off the car

Reason I ask is because I still have a TERRIBLE brake wobble and I have a feeling I didn't wire brush the hubs down good enough therefore making my discs not sit square (or round!!!) so what my plans are are to knock all the bolts off so I have a flat surface and get a wire wheel on the go
