  1. Cheers Ian

Good idea about the local tabloid will see what the outcome is and keep it in reserve , also john when you say the dealer principal who do you mean is that the owner of the dealership, and if so how would I find out his name and address. whatever the outcome thank you very much for your best wishes regards peter.

Thanks Peter. The Dealer Principal is the person who is responsible for everything that happens at the Dealership. Just ask one of the staff for his name, address, telephone no., email address etc. Then let him have both barrels in the form of the letter by Registered Post that I mentioned earlier.

    Regards

    John

  2. Good luck Peter.

Just ensure that you put ALL of your concerns in writing to the Dealer Principal and copied to Lexus UK AND KEEP A COPY FOR YOURSELF. Send the concerns by registered post.

The main difficulty as I see it is if they hand it back to you and say "it`s fixed", then you have to accept that initially, even though you have lost confidence in the vehicle.

Then at the first sign that all is not well again the vehicle has to be returned to them for good and a new one made available to you.

    I wish you well.

    Regards

    John

  3. Hello All,

My name is John and I live on the Wirral.

I have been a member for two weeks and have enjoyed reading the various contributions and joining in wherever I feel that I can.

Yesterday afternoon I picked up my "10" reg GS450h in Palladio Silver from Lexus Chester @ Cheshire Oaks. It is 3 years old, has one former owner and 17,000 miles on the clock. This will be my final car (a mid life crisis, some 25 years too late I feel )and will sit alongside my 10 year old and 184,000 mile E Class Auto Estate and with which I cannot part.

I look forward to reading and sometimes joining in the discussions with you all.

    Regards

    John

  4. Sorry to read this sad saga.

You have had the vehicle for more than 3 months and Lexus have had N attempts to satisfy you. The vehicle clearly is not what it was claimed to be when you purchased it and in my view the Lexus Dealer who sold it to you is in Breach of Contract. Their protocols are irrelevant and the advices offered by Steve 2006 and Ian S200 are sound and you should not allow them (Lexus Dealer) to procrastinate further.

Supposing that they fix the problem........will you ever have confidence in the vehicle? I doubt it.

Enough is enough and you have already been more than accommodating.

Good luck, a new replacement vehicle is what you want.

    Regards

    John

  5. Lexusdirectparts quote for parts and installation is £2K and I think that's ex vat. I'll be looking at options as I do want to keep the car, it really is good. I have an SL60, a GES300 and an RX300 as well so I'm not having to walk!!

    Thanks Ian.

I will pick up my first (and probably last ) Lexus next week. It`s a "10" reg GS450H with 17,000 on the clock.

However I could not let go of my E220 cdi Auto Estate (W210) with 184,000 on the clock and which takes me to and from Andalucía twice each year @ over 50mpg. I simply could not afford to replace it.............so I didn`t, I kept it !!

    Good luck with the GS.

    Regards

    John

  6. "It's a beautiful car and I really don't want to scrap it, but at the moment it's looking like the costs will be way more than the value of the car."

Think carefully, if the above is true, then in my view the value of the car is really the cost to you of replacing it with something similar.

So, given that replacing could well run into several thousand pounds, I would suggest that you should seek to repair/replace the offending parts of your much loved vehicle.

    Regards

  7. I am open to correction on this, but my understanding is that all of the MK3 GS450H's are SEL spec. In terms of differences, the SEL's don't so much have extra kit as uprated or higher spec kit - suspension, gear box, adaptive cruise control, etc. Visually, the only difference seems to be that SEL's have a lip on the boot lid.

Thanks Mike, much appreciated. It seems that the electric sunroof and possibly the Levinton stereo were dropped at some stage.

I went to Lexus Bolton (from Wirral) this morning and test drove a 10 reg SEL. They were extremely personable and accommodating and I could not fault them. The car was sublime, but I was surprised that it did not seem possible to bring up a digital mph/mpk (kilometre,) ON THE DASH which makes the "k" reading not so easy when driving on the continent.

Oh well I shall have to consider seriously whether to go for it and keep it alongside my 190,000 mile 10 year old E class diesel Estate!.

    Regards

    John

  8. My GS450h has an annoying rattle but not from any of these areas- mine comes from transmission tunnel trim on the passenger side - it is driving me crazy for a while a piece of felt wedged between the trim panel and the stereo unit stopped it but now back

Does anyone know how easy it is to remove this panel to see what is squeaking and apply some silicone?

    Thanks

    Hi Simon,

Look up YOUTUBE as there are several "how to" videos inc one I`ve seen removal of panels associated with upgrade to the sound system. Good luck

    John
