  1. We had to choose between keeping the GS or the RX, and it came down to the flexibility of the RX. The RX is good to drive, much sharper steering than the GS but I will miss the beast!!!
  2. Roz hi, just wondered how you'd gone on? I bit the bullet and had a new comp fitted, total cost £681 of which £375 was the comp.
  3. So a new caliper has been fitted and the caliper carrier replaced. No change! Pads and disc fine, no abs light flicker, caliper fine, no wear marks on old caliper carrier. Any suggestions? Is it worth banging on a new set of pads to see if it's them??
  4. That wasn't the intention!!!!! The car is listed on eBay but I'm certainly hoping it doesn't sell!!
  5. We have a 2001 RX300 and a 2002 GS300 and can't justify keeping both. Decided to keep the RX due to it's added versatility - here's hoping the GS doesn't sell! Will be awful to see it drive away if and when it does!! Haven't been so attached to a car for a long long time!
  6. Having endured a frustrating time recently with suppliers and garages not seeming to have any interest in customer service I'm delighted to recommend onlineautomotive. Was struggling to find a part, tried them by chance, and after a 10 minute on line chat they came up with one at an excellent price new, not exchange. Ordered at 1045 Monday, and it arrived at 1120 Wednesday. If only everyone was that easy to deal with!!!
  7. I've bitten the bullet and sourced a carrier and a new caliper. Provided they arrive as promised they will be fitted on Thursday and hopefully that will be the end of it!
  8. Hi again. I'm going to replace the overhauled caliper. They did an overhaul on it and soaked it etc,but within a day or so the initial occasional grating returned. Now it's pretty much a constant noise Can't disagree that now it seems as though everyone wants to replace rather than fix!! Should I be looking to replace both front calipers at the same time?
  9. It seems to be a process of elimination and I confess I'm losing patience with them. They've overhauled or replaced everything else and say that's all there's left!!! The noise is getting worse and finding a carrier from even a breaker is a challenge!
  10. Hi is there someway to find out an exact part no? I'm trying to find one for an osf brake caliper CARRIER/HOLDER for a 2001 RX300 Thanks
  11. Looks like the GS is going and we are keeping the RX. A few weeks ago we noticed that from time to time the osf brake on the RX seemed to occasionally "slip" on application. Had new brakes all round last year and lightly used since No problems with stopping at any speed, it just sometimes feels as if the anti lock has kicked in for a fraction of a second on that wheel. Might happen once or twice at most in a day and wheel never locks up or anything remotely like that. MOT passed without any advisories but garage did a caliper overhaul and thought that had solved the problem. I noticed yesterday though that sometimes there's a very light rubbing noise from the osf (I'm having to drive with the window open while we sort out the a/c compressor!), with the noise going when the brakes are applied, and the noise slowly returns at times. Called them this morning and the garage says it must be the caliper carrier. Two things please! A) Does that sound right and B)is it expensive???? They tell me its an easy fix, about 30-45 mins and they are happy to fit if I can source Thanks Keith
  12. Thanks for your reply. It's the risk I'm concerned about. My garage will happily fit what I supply but then there's that risk. If they source everything, and their suppliers are saying there's no availability in uk so it would come in from Poland apparently, at least it's down to them to get the car sorted. They had hoped to have it all done for Friday but phoned me late this afternoon to tell me about the sourcing problem. I have been offered a compressor from a uk breakers at £252 delivered but I'm inclined to leave it to the garage. We only need one car now and did think of putting in both the RX and my GS and getting something else but there's nothing really comparable!! My 2002 GS only has 92k on it and I love it, and the RX is a 2001 with only 108k on it, and she loves it! Now if only the a/c on the RX has been £1000's!!!!
  13. Colin hi, thanks for that. They show two options for the available units. Do you or anyone else here know which would be the right one for a UK vehicle? Thanks Keith
  14. K - yes compressor seized and have been quoted £640 incl vat, parts and labour which seems reasonable. Looking online I came across a US supplier who can supply a brand new 5 piece kit for $295 plus shipping and I'm waiting to find out shipping to UK cost. Our garage will then price the labour Guess my concern is that I know that if I get our garage to do the whole thing I can come back to them if there's a problem, whereas there could be a get out if they fitted the US kit and it went wrong. Here's the link http://www.discountacparts.com/Lexus-RX300-AC_Kit-60~80230_RK.html#
  15. Roz, thank you for that. Ironically the car is going in today for our garage to investigate and see what the issue is and what the options are. Do you have any suppliers websites by any chance? Thanks Keith
  16. Finally got it to Kwikfit. They did a recharge but it didn't work. As soon as temp is set 20 or below a screech starts and there is a voltage drop. Is this a major fix? And is it expensive??? If if is, bearing in mind its my wife's car , I may just suggest she open the windows (and run)
  17. A/c on my other halfs RX300 is not working The a/c red light is flashing on and off to indicate a problem. When pushing the a/c button to the on position it operates for a second or two, then there is a clang and the light starts to flash. Does this sound like a simple regas need or something more dramatic?
  18. I agree re the mileage and history - it's what I always look for and would rather have a car that's done decent miles a year rather than little. We are happily running two Lexi (?), one at 92k and the other at 109k, both with full histories. The "argument" came about as there's a 98 GS on eBay with 25k on it!
  19. Colleague insists it's possible to "clock" a lexus. I don't want to know how (if it is) - simply if it can be done. I didn't think it could!
  20. Thanks for that. Swan do have a general side too and they've always been excellent. Cars going into them on Thursday and will see how we go on. If they can't sort it I will contact westfields. The repair costs will dictate the future of the car too so fingers crossed!!
  21. The car would run fine and then suddenly cut out as though the ignition had been switched off. Restarting would clear the problem. On the way back from booking it in it cut out again, pulled over, restarted and this time the eml and vsc lights were on, although the car drove fine even though they were on. Back on the drive restarting didn't clear the lights and on one occasion the car started as usual then the revs slowly died and it cut out. Tried it again, no lights and it idled away happily until I turned it off. It will sit on the drive now until it goes in on the 12th - and no, my other half won't be using my GS in the meantime!!!!
  22. Car booked in for 12th but on way back from garage exhaust started to rattle so presume the cat has gone. Would that explain the problem?
