  1. Thanks for the advice. After looking around we've decided to go for an RX, (ours was written off in January), and pick up an 02 with 114k on it on Friday. Having owned both an 02 GS and 51 RX in the past few years it was a tough choice when it came to letting one go. Our GS was superb but the RX was more versatile and had sharper steering too which surprised us. Seeing the RX trailered away after the accident was dreadful but the insurance offer was way above what we expected, and with a big bill looming before the next MOT it was a no brainer financially. Saw that someone bought it, and has spent some serious money on it to get it through the mot last month (it failed first time round) Thanks again - much appreciated
  2. Thank you! First one I've seen with Lexus running boards
  3. After our RX was written off in January we thought we'd "try" to live without it. Well that lasted four months!! Ok so its only a mint mk1 RX but on Friday we will be happy people again!!
  4. Have come across a 16 year old GS with less than 100k on it, fsh to 95k, cambelt changed at 75k, 2 owners, has passed every mot, sometimes with only 2k or less between years. Bodywork and interior look immaculate from pictures, no lights on dash. Supposedly everything works as it should. I've had an 02 GS 300 before so know what to expect, and until recently we had a 51 RX300 until someone ran into the side of it and wrote it off. I plan to go and look at it during the week but wondered if there's anything in particular to watch out for on a very low mileage lightly used car like this. Many thanks!
  5. I know that - I was just trying to maybe help someone as visually the car will look fine but has a number of issues that wont be obvious on a test drive. If the bills were likely to have been reasonable we wouldn't have let it go. It will be cat c
  6. It was originally AJ51 MJE - we changed it to EM51 AAM. It's potentially a lovely car but needs a serious spend before the next MOT in 5/16
  7. After a driver pulled into the side of us in mid Dec and did minor damage to the rear wheel arch of our 2001 RX the insurance company said they'd treat it as a total loss as obviously the cost of repair to them was uneconomical. Not impressed we left it until a week ago before finding out what the numbers would be if we did write it off "out of interest" To our amazement they immediately offered us close to what we paid for it three years ago, and with a big bill looming (exhaust, major brake overhaul, rears inside and out plus abs rings) it became a bit of a no brainer. As a second car it was a luxury - even at 120k and 15 years old it was superb but we always said it couldn't justify a large expenditure and so the insurers offer was just too good to turn down. I guess our concern is that the bodywork will be repaired and someone will buy it without knowing the mechanical work needed and find themselves landed with a big bill on what seems to be a bargain.
  8. Is anyone after a genuine Lexus rubber boot mat from a soon to be scrapped 2001 RX? No cost but will need collecting from SS17. Theres also all the manuals and the cd cartridge, plus a dog guard (though that's been outside for a while) I'm not stripping the car, just wondered if anyone was after these bits before its picked up by the insurance company
  9. Remarkably good. The chap commented on it, bearing in mind it's 14 years old. I doubt it's ever seen a field and even though it's not garaged there was nothing worthy of comment. The bodywork is doing well too and it's only the window rubbers that are looking a bit tired now. For some reason I always feel apprehensive at mot time! What did surprise me was the first thing the bloke did was open the bonnet and check the fluid levels. Maybe they've always done that and I just haven't seen them do it?
  10. Took my 51 reg 116k RX in for its mot this morning - straight through, no advisories!
  11. Up until June last year we had a 2002 GS300 and 2001 RX300, found we couldn't justify having two cars and let the GS go. The 114k RX is fine but we need two cars again, her indoors has bought s little runabout, so I have the opportunity to change! There is no reason to do so apart from - I miss the GS! Been caught looking at eBay already! Do I succumb?!!!
  12. We run a 2001 112k RX, just completed an effortless "quickish" motorway round trip of 450 miles , M25, M1, M6, and computer shows just over 26mpg which I'm more than satisfied with. The car is so accomplished and I cant believe how good the car is, let alone one 13 years old! Around town we get 17-20 on average. Can't assist with the techie stuff but the help you will get from the knowledgable guys on here will be tremendous. Enjoy the car!!
  13. Had the car done today and would heartily recommend SX Tyres in Basildon tel 01268 920200, ask for Jamie. Had the tracking/alignment done there on our 2001 RX300 today. Transformed the car! The total cost was £65, they use Hunters kit, and took about an hour. It's £5 for a check, then £35 for rear wheel adjustment and £25 for fronts. I'm not connected with them in anyway. (Admin - don't know if you have a general forum you could add this recommendation to)

  15. Thanks for the comments I've ordered the goodyears and they will be fitted on Wednesday, so will report back in due course. I was particularly attracted by the wet braking and noise stats. We don't do that many miles so fuel economy isn't a major problem RRP was supposedly £121 each, but we have got the pair through the asdatyres site for £193, ie £91.50 each including fitting etc. They are being fitted by Jet at Pitsea who we've used over the years but they couldn't match the price buying through them. The tyre on supply only is available around £80 What surprised me was one of the suggestions made by one of the the tyre places we spoke to who suggested I go for "the excellent budget tyre, the jinyu. Erm........I think not!!
  16. Hi Two questions please 1 - is there any reason why I can't replace two T rated fronts with H rated? 2- does anyone have any experience of the Goodyear 215/70/16 effgrip 100H tyres Many thanks
  17. I agree pretty much with Colin Barbers suggested figures. Around town it's around 20, and on the motorway around 25-27 if we are "keeping up with the traffic". It's a small price to pay in our opinion - but then we aren't doing big mileage!
  18. Got there in the end! Turned out to be a worn abs reluctor ring!!!!
  19. Anything to look out for when getting the 4 wheel alignment done on an RX?
  20. Great job Roz! Well done. Maybe you should post the name of the supplier in one of the main sections here? Having given up my much loved GS as we didn't need two cars anymore I'm now driving the RX everyday. It's hard to believe its 13 years old and has 110k on it. The only thing that I miss, and this shows how good the RX is, is that the music doesn't have the automatic sound level thingy!! All the best for the future Keith
  21. Hi - you can probably get a manual off eBay We have a 51 RX300 and the cd cartridge is in the glove box
