  1. My other half has a lightly used 51 reg, 108k RX300. Night before last it cut out on her out of the blue. When she restarted it the eml and vsc stayed on but car drove fine for the few miles home. Took it out yesterday during day, gave it a blow, all fine, no problems, no warning lights Took it out last night and it cut out within 100yds, all dash lights came on. Restarted, no lights came on and car drove perfectly. It's due to go in as there's an occasional grinding noise from osf brakes, and the a/c light has started to flash, so do we simply get codes read to begin with or are we looking at an obvious problem We use a great independent who we trust (Swan in Basildon) The exhaust has been a slight issue since we've had it, last mot had an advisory saying very slight leak, but it didn't fail. Car is very lightly used, very much a second car (we have my gs300 as the main) so it can sit for days. As I say, it went perfectly during the day yesterday when I used it. Only thing I did notice was the amount of "hiss" when I took the petrol cap off - but that's only when comparing it to mine. Both times it cut out it's been on side roads, but obviously it's not something to be risked. So ideas of what it might be would be welcome
  2. Is it possible to easily temporarily disable the alarm on a 2002 GS300, and if so how please? Thanks
  3. I received a call from one of the company owners who was more than apologetic about the level of service his organisation had provided. He was clearly unaware of the real world issues - but he is now! Without asking he offered and arranged a £50 refund, nice, but I was more concerned about getting my car sorted. He also arranged for the tech director to visit me at a time of my choosing to resolve the fitting issue. The tech guy duly arrived from Derby, I'm in Essex, couldn't have been more apologetic. Excellent guy. More importantly he tried a number of different solutions and finally fitted a smaller aerial to the front screen - and wow! Problem solved. So from the dab option point of view it is a great solution, the reception and quality is superb. It was just a bruising experience to get there. Think it's a classic case of an organisation being exposed by a weak link. I have the direct no's for the top guys, they willingly offered them, they certainly did what they said they would, and it's not for me to tell them how to fix their company. But oh, there really are people there who aren't best suited to front line customer service. Despite all the grief they'd already caused me and before the MD spoke with me I'd made the customer services people aware that it needed sorting on a Friday. Typically their rep called me back and asked me "why it had to be a Friday" as if I was being unreasonable! As a mild mannered Lexus driver I politely told the rep what he could do with his question! The MD's groan when I told him of this part of the experience was painful,to hear. Would I use them again? Yes but only through their top guys.
  4. This is turning into a nightmare! What a shambles! After reporting the problem on Friday 21st one of their people called me on Saturday 22nd as agreed and established that the fitter had wrongly positioned the aerial. I made them aware in the email that it needed sorting on the morning of Friday 28th. No problem they say. On Sunday the contact confirmed by email that the fitter had been advised of the remedial work - and assured me that the boot release (which the fitter had disconnected) would also be sorted. Late on Monday afternoon I get a message to call their Aaran Cunningham, do so, but as he starts to speak to me another call comes into his office - which he takes!!! Dreadful PR! And promises to call me straight back. Doesn't!! Emailed in on Tuesday morning as nothing heard. Still nothing heard by 4pm so email in again. Aaran immediately replies by email telling me he will be in touch shortly "to offer me an appointment!" 10 minutes later he emails to say that "when he provisionally gave me a date of Friday afternoon yesterday" he didn't acknowledge that the engineer "he had in mind" was off in the afternoon and fully booked in the morning. I hate being lied to! He not only hadn't had the courtesy to call me back on the Monday he then says he gave me a provisional date. Difficult as he hadn't contacted me!!! I've messaged and texted every contact I can find there - this is no way to treat a customer. Could I recommend them? Well I've paid for something that doesn't work and their support service is lacking. Not good!
  5. Turns out the engineer shouldn't have fitted the aerial to the front screen. Visiting again next Friday to hopefully sort by resiting to rear screen - but I see from another post on here that that may not be successful. If it can't go,on the front or rean screens what are the other options?
  6. Installation done but very poor and inconsistent reception so have just emailed them. 3rd car I've had dab in so I know what to expect. Await their response tomorrow.
  7. I'm getting them to fit the aux in the arm rest. Dealing with them on line and on the phone has been first rate so far so keeping fingers crossed. Will report back tomorrow
  8. Having DAB Just Connect fitted tomorrow to my 2002 GS 300. Will report back if anyone is interested?
  9. Love my recently acquired 85k fsh 2002 GS 300 and it's going in for service on Friday at the excellent. Swan Coachworks in Basildon. (Highly recommended, ask for Steve. They look after our Rx too) It clearly needs new brakes, lot of judder, just checked the mot history and it had front and rear pads at 64k, and rears again two years later at 76k. Only at 85k now I know it's a heavy beast but does it really eat brakes that fast?!! A retired gentleman owned it before me, from new, so did relatively few miles. Also it had an advisory saying that the front d bush anti roll bar bushes had deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement. The car at times seems very slightly unstable at speed, may just be me, but could it be that? The vsc is fine. I have to say that I am hugely impressed, my wife has run a 2002 RX for a while and raved about it, but I hardly got to drive it. Now I have my own Lexus I can understand why - and no she's not allowed close to it!! Anyway, any comments re the bushes and brakes would be appreciated
  10. Hi, saw these today on line - a simple alternative to snow chains Wondered if anyone had tried them and if so what their comments are
  11. Just acquired my 2002 gs300, love it - with the exception of the dipped beam performance. Is it simply a straight bulb change and if so what would you recommend? Thank you
  12. Has anyone had one of these units installed, and if so what comments would you make? I have a gs300, which I love, and the only thing lacking is DAB radio - which I used all the time in my last car
  13. Having just completed an effortless 450 motorway jaunt in my wife's 2001 107k RX300 I confess I am smitten - but don't need a 4x4 to replace by ageing 9-5 Saab Having looked on eBay and autotrader there are a glut of gs300's and 430's below £3k with all sorts of claims re history and condition etc. Can you tell me what to look out for, what service history to expect, and the frequency/mileage for cambelt change etc. Some seem to have been changed at 50k for example, others at 100k, but what is the standard? I recognise that whatever I go for will be a relatively thirsty beast but I can live with that! There seems to be a pattern of first owner using Lexus for service but after that it really varies from car to car. Does that matter? Getting so much grief here - all I can hear from she who believes she must be obeyed is "told you so"!
