Go for the IS250 mate. I've just sold my IS220d after just 6 months as i was very unimpressed with the engine and gearbox. With petrol prices as they are in the UK i'd imagine it's no more expensive to run the IS250
-
Fair enough. I can understand it must be significantly more expensive to own a v6 petrol when petrol is more expensive than diesel. It's crazy that it's the other way around here. Not that I'm complaining as it makes filling up my IS250 a little better!
If i was in the UK i would have never bought the 220d, if i'm honest i'm not sure if i would have even gone for an is250 but i'm pleased i have experienced Lexus and hopefully it wont be my last. I can dream about an ISF :)
I'll be happy to drive mine out to you for a test drive if you pay.....
I'd love a test drive of one! Not sure if i'd pay for one though haha :D
Thanks guys. I'm sure the Leon will suit my needs, an IS250 would be great but very rare out here.
There will be a white one in the Eastern Loire in July
Pop over for a pint - Test drive first though :D

So after just 6 months and 5000km of ownership I've said bye bye to my IS220d. It was a love hate relationship but I have definitely not been put off buying another Lexus - far from it, although I would certainly think twice about it being a diesel Lexus. Luckily I've lost next to nothing on the car and I've decided to go back to VAG and have bought a Leon TDI.
I loved the looks, styling, features and in some ways the drive but I did not love the engine. If I was doing long distances/motorway miles I'm sure it would have been better but I don't. Diesel cars are the norm out here as petrol is more expensive than diesel but if I'm honest I made a mistake with this one. I cleaned the egr valve quite early into ownership and I checked it again after just 3000km and it was badly coked up again, this is with using an additive and premium diesel. Over the 6 months I only managed an average of 35mpg, with aircon I'd be closer to 30! I can't believe Lexus are allowed to quote such high figures when in real life it's so much lower.
There are a lot of things I like about the car though so I guess I'd probably really like a IS250.
I'll probably still pass by the forum now and again as I really like it, it's obviously a bit of an older environment (less immature) and people are very helpful and polite, unfortunately it can be a little quiet on here but this is probably due to Lexus being relatively rare on the UK roads.
Thanks for all the help, and see you around!

How long was it disconnected for? It needs to be disconected for more than a few hours, usually over night does it.

Haha fair do's mate, I failed to get a bite then :)

Aircraft engineer eh, you must be good behind a computer screen then, do you get someone to load the cds for you? It's a Lexus not a RR

Next time you have have it running could you see is IS220d is listed? Cheers

I've just used hacked Techstream to reprogram a key to my car but not one that had been used on another car (as far as I know). The key came with the car so I assume it's the original spare, works now anyway. Which version are you using Mark? You need the dealer edition or locksmith edition of the Lexus techstream system to program keys, which is so expensive to buy, that realistically, it's dealer only.
You also need a *brand new* key. Once a key has been programmed, it can never be reprogrammed to another car.
If you get a key off ebay, and it's already been used, you won't know until you get to the dealer and they try to program it, and the car simply won't start; so most dealers will only use their own keys. There are some other forums where people have brought their own keys and convinced dealers to try and program them, and then been left with a 1/2 hour bill for labour after the dealer couldn't do it.
I bought a hacked techstream system off ebay for £30 and it certainly goes through the motions of programming keys - I've not actually tried it for real though, for fear of breaking the car or the keys, but it looks like it would do the job.

Never mind, I got it sorted. I used ver.7.20.041
It doesn't come up with the car make/model but finds it automatically as model code ALE and the vehicle spec for IS220d is 2ADFHV. The option has to be chosen yourself, I couldn't find which car was mine so had a look through all three to find the correct one for my car spec.
I successfully linked my spare key to the car with this version, very easy to do as there are step by step instructions built in. There is a lot customisation available too, from interior light timings, wing mirror lights, warning chimes (volume and length), open and closing windows with key fob, change KM/litre into mpg etc etc. I turned off the automatic re-circulation feature when you turn the air con off as it annoys me.
I hope this helps someone anyway as there is little or no information for IS220d owners on techstream so I was a little blind.

Yeah, correct oil, premium diesel, decent additive and it still gets a lot of build up

£250 sounds about right, mine was replaced before I bought the car and the cast was just over 300euro fitted. I can't believe how quickly they get clogged up, I cleaned mine about 3500km and checked it again this week and it was pretty dirty - well worth a clean. I'm just happy it's so easy to get to.

I have a tuning box for sale.
have dyno sheets to prove what the gains were.
Can you post up the synonym sheets? I'm interested to see if the boxes really do give the quoted power, I have one on mine but doubt it's a over 200bhp

Any pics?

I totally agree if its legit, I just think its getting harder to find things that are legit! maybe i'm unlucky lol
There are certain websites that are offering copies, but if your looking for a real one try eBay.de

Mine has had the update and I still only average 37mpg. Yes the update is done at the dealer

Why buy a Lexus and then fill it with dodgy stuff off Ebay?
Who said they were dodgy? Are you speaking from experience? The one I bought was legit and half the price so why go to Lexus?
I think there problem here is some people are to scared to touch their cars, like the type of person who drives to the dealer to put a new Battery in there key!

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you . There was a post recently about somebody having the dpf removed but then it failed the next MOT. Under new mot rules cars normally fitted with dpf's will fail The MOT if they have been removed. It sounds like the garage you went to might have caused more damage but this is difficult to prove and now that your car has been played with I'm not sure what a Lexus dealer would do with it.

It's normal, like Carl says it can be at 1200rpm with air on on or heated/cooled seats or it can just be when the engine is cold. I was also worried about this when I bought my 220d
-
I couldn't agree more Martin, if you look after them they are good cars. Yes they have there problems but so do most cars. I do a lot af short trips but make sure the car gets a good run every now and then. Decent diesel and a good additive seemed to have helped me as I've not had any problems (touch wood)

Perfect! You find that with some Japan cars, great result

Sorry i just realized i never updated this. The box worked really well, The lag was much improved, car was definatley quicker (but i doubt to the calimed 230bhp) and mpg was slightly better. 6th gear seamed more usable too.
