There are two at the very front which are slightly smaller but they seem to last better than the others, these two are just on the grille though so don't need removing so often. All the other clips on the engine bay covers are the same size
-
No problem Geoff, they are good quality. I ended up buying 20 and replaced nearly all of them as the ones I has fitted seemed to break very easily. These ones can be reused without breaking
-
Here are the correct ones, £3.25 for 10, perfect fit.

Very nice! I wasn't sure if I'd like it but I think it looks great. I'm not sure if doing the bottom grille would be too much though, would be nice to see!

Yes it sounds like the mechanic should be clear in what work he is quoting to undertake to start with.
Dual mass flywheels usually fail before or around the same time as the clutch, sometimes before sometimes after. It's up to the owner if they don't want to change the flywheel when replacing the clutch but in my opinion it would be crazy not too. Also a lot depends on the millage on the car, if your paying for the car to be stripped down to replace the thrust bearing on a car with over 100k miles I'd just replace the lot but that's me. It's highly likely the clutch would be worn out if the thrust bearing needs replacing too as these tend to outlast clutches. A lot of its and buts but the main thing is the OP doesn't need to worry about it anymore
-
If it's been replaced take it back to where the work was done.
Just a heads up, the @ you keep using in your posts actually means "at" and not "and".

Hi Lee, sorry I have no idea if the units are adjustable or not. My local CT center passes UK cars with just the stickers, I have no idea if this is a common thing though. Where in France are you?
-
I look forward to seeing the pics!

From experience on other cars the Eibach pro kit is excellent but usually doesn't give a true 30mm drop, more like 20mm. I've not used them on a lexus but I guess this could be the same. I totally agree with what Stuart says. Eibach for ride, H&R for looks

How do you use the Wynns cleanner? Have you noticed any difference early on? Probably worth resetting ecu as you said
-
The "special spray" will probably be a simple degreaser just with an extra few quid on top
-
John never said it was just the thrust bearing that was going to be replaced, it says above that the clutch would be replaced too so not just a £20 part. If a clutch was replaced you'd be crazy not to do the dual mass flywheel on a diesel, this is probably where the large quote came from
** beet me to it John

I've not seen what the mass air sensor is like on the is220d but on previous cars I have cleaned them with some brake cleaner and cotton wool buds. I have no idea if this is even possible on the is220d though
-
That's good then John, it could be because it was sitting around for a while as you say. I was pointing it out more to Chris though who seemed to be quoting you figures for his is200 clutch replacement, not a 220d
-
Clutch kit inc. flywheel for is220d is £1050 at best eBay price, So £450 for the labour. You wouldn't go in and just replace the thrust bearing as a couple of months later the flywheel will probably go or the clutch plate

Just edited previous post, there is a link for a pic

The blank cover drops down on hinges, well it does on mine anyway. The two screws are underneath. The blank cover is where the sunglasses holder should be.
Does yours look like this. The big hole is where the cover goes, you can see the two screws in there:

Hi Pete, on my car there is a little electrical unit in place where the sunglasses holder should be- this should drop down on hinges the same as the sunglasses holder does, you just need to put your screwdriver/plastic tool in to start it off. Then the two screws are underneath as normal.
-
Was the kit expensive if you don't mind me asking? I couldn't bring myself to buy a kit as I knew the price of each piece was pennies.
Everything you need for installation is below in this video, including wing mirrors. Very easy to do. The video shows a sunglasses holder, I think this is not possible to be fitted to euro cars but the panel still drops down in the same way. You don't need all those tools either, I just used a thin screwdriver carefully and cased no damage. The wing mirror was the most fiddly but not difficult.
I've lost the charger for my camera, when I get a new one I'll throw up some photo's. LED sidelights too

They fit dual mass flywheel for a number of reasons, to protect the gearbox from too much torque, reduce vibration, they are quieter etc etc.
Another dual mass flywheel should last the remaining life of the car unless it fails really early. I suppose it comes down to if you think your going to keep the car for another 100k miles.

That's great news, it must have been really clogged up! You were unlucky, normally it's a 30-40 minute job top start to finish, easy next time for you!
It's a shame that it's not easy to take the inlet manifold off as I'm sure this will be clogged up as well

Are you sure the avensis one fits? I'm sure I've read on here somewhere that it doesn't fit? LUK is the best make apparently for this replacement. You can get the clutch kit with DMF on eBay for £1045. Have a look at some of the old threads, there was recently a good thread with quite a lot of info.

It looks like additives really work well on this engine. What diesel did you use?

Welcome to the forum, good luck with the restoration!

No worries Ishaq, they seem great as they don't break when you re-use them
